Extinct Animals The Wooly Mammoth was an enormous mammal, similar to the modern-day elephant. This animal was 4 meters high and weighed 6 tons! It had long hairs, short ears, a short tail and curved tusks that were 5 meters long! It lived in the Wrangel Island in the Arctic Ocean. The Woolly Mammoth disappeared from the earth 10,000 years ago because of hunting by humans, climate change and the disappearance of its habitat. The Tasmanian Tiger was a large carnivorous animal which became extinct in It was not a kind of tiger. It was like a medium-size dog. It weighed 30 kg and was 2 meters long (from nose to tail). But it had the body covered with dark stripes like a tiger! It became extinct because of overhunting. The last wild Tasmanian Tiger was died in Tasmania in The Great Auk was a large and flightless bird that lived in the North Atlantic and in northern Spain. It was not very big. It was cm tall and it weighed about 5 kg. It didn't fly but was an excellent swimmer and an excellent hunter in the water. Humans overhunted this bird for thousands of years.
