Coming in Deuteronomy 1:19 Then we set out from Horeb, and went through all that great and terrible wilderness which you saw on the way to the hill country of the Amorites, just as the LORD our God had commanded us; and we came to Kadesh-barnea. Now Moses is taking the next generation through the results of A reminder of why it happened An encouragement to not let it happen again Remember what the nation first said Exodus 24:7 Then he took the book of the covenant and read it in the hearing of the people; and they said, All that the LORD has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient! Where did the people really fall? Were some of them in this camp? Psalm 66:3 Say to God, How awesome are Your works! Because of the greatness of Your power Your enemies will give feigned obedience to You. We have the same choice to the Lord When we first came to Him 2 Corinthians 7:15 His affection abounds all the more toward you, as he remembers the obedience of you all, how you received him with fear and trembling. But life happens 1 Peter 1:14 16 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; because it is written, YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY. We constantly have to be about the business of sanctification Romans 12:1 2 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of

2 Page 2 worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. The first act of obedience after being overcome by the world The first act was to the wilderness 2 Corinthians 7:10 For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death. For the generation that had rejected, they received what they desired They turned from God s will and received dryness instead In the wilderness, where did they go and how long? They spent years circling Mt. Seir Mountain range of Edom extending from the Dead Sea southward to the Gulf of Agaba. How well did God provide for His people even while they were in the wilderness and out of His perfect will for them? Deuteronomy 2:7 For the LORD your God has blessed you in all that you have done; He has known your wanderings through this great wilderness. These forty years the LORD your God has been with you; you have not lacked a thing.

3 Page 3 God took care of those in rebellion? He was also taking care of the which was not in rebellion. Isaiah 55:6 7 Seek the LORD while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return to the LORD, and He will have compassion on him, and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon. Galatians 6:7 8 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. The generation that died in the wilderness reaped what they sowed By the way, buy your water and food, I thought God was taking care of them? Time to Hebrews 5:13 14 For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant. But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil. As we step out and follow Him, we also Just as we have expectations of our children doing more for themselves with some guidance, so does our Father Again, leave your relatives alone Besides, the Emim lived there, the who? What is up with all of these names of peoples who appear to be related to each other? Road map Nephilim Genesis 6:4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.

The first statement, that the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair, presents the crisis. The sons of God in Hebrew is bnei ha-elohim. This term, in the Hebrew Bible, is always a reference to angels, both good and bad ones. Arnold G. This passage is speaking of fallen angels on earth This also may be speaking of these fallen angels possessing men The one thing we know for sure there was a serious sin problem These are all giants Nephilim = Anakim Emim = Anakim = Rephaim Rephaim = Zamzummim = Anakim They are all names given to people who are the result of the same Genesis 6 antics What we have in the land God gave to Israel is a of paramount importance It is an outbreak of the same problem seen in Genesis 6 There is now a problem that must be resolved

The last generation Saw the of the problem Did not realize that God s calling was also His This generation Saw God s calling followed and experienced His enabling What generation do we identify with as believers? Are we looking at the size of the problem and admitting defeat with no engagement? Do we see our God is and who He is for? Romans 8:31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? In the wilderness God was taking care of His people, even in their rebellion He made for them He then led them one step at a time He pointed out that Moab had actually dealt with the giants implying you can too The first battle is not with giants, they step out in faith and win What s next? As believers, we do the same God takes care of us Then He leads us to take a step of faith for Him, then another, then another Would the nation step out if they knew they would be fighting a 3,000+ lb giant? Would we? Isaiah 6:8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us? Then I said, Here am I. Send me!
