6 Meet the Kidorf Family! Member Profile What brought you to Ner Tamid? We started attending Ner Tamid soon after the birth of Atara, our middle child. We wanted to give Aviva some alone time with her on Shabbat morning, which meant Michael needed to bring Meira (2 years old) to shul. Ner Tamid was a perfect place for Meira to roam around and get compliments. We have always loved the programs for kids. And as noted before, we absolutely insisted that the youth director have semicha. We are very grateful for Rabbi and Rebbetzin Motzen s leadership. We have been members for about 15 years. What is your religious background? Aviva grew up Orthodox. Her shul in Hamilton, Ontario, was just across the street, very similar to Ner Tamid. She attended a Jewish day school in Hamilton until high school, when she boarded with families in Toronto to attend Ulpana. Michael has a Conservative background, attending Beth Israel Congregation in Vineland, NJ, about 45 minutes from Philadelphia, and birthplace of Mike Trout, and, for those with a longer baseball memory, Don Money and Ted Ford. What do you do for a living? Aviva works as a medical writer for Merck Pharmaceuticals, authoring protocols and clinical study reports at various stages of drug development. Michael works as a psychologist at Johns Hopkins, and is engaged in research and clinical work with substance abusers. Anything interesting? Aviva played the violin for many years through high school, and stopped in college when nobody was there to remind her to keep practicing. Michael is still celebrating wins by the Eagles and Villanova, an embarrassment of riches, hoping the good vibes last at least until after Yoni s bar mitzvah. He has learned to trust the process. We also asked some questions to Yoni who is having his Bar Mitzvah this week. Mazel Tov! What school do you go to? I am in the 7th Grade at Ohr Chadash Academy You come to Shul quite often, what do you like about NT? I enjoy attending schmooze and snack, talking with friends, and even davening with my dad. I really enjoy the bnei mitzvah program with Rabbi and Rebbetzin Motzen. What are your hobbies? I love to read, play baseball and football, and draw faces, though I probably draw too many pictures in class. I also enjoy acting. What would you like to be professionally in the future? I can imagine being a lawyer. It would be nice to get paid for arguing with other people.
