FORWARD It is famous that the miraculous journey of Mi raaj had taken place in the month of Rajab, therefore the importance of Salaah is discussed in various Masajid during this month. This discourse was delivered in the month of Rajab, therefore various aspects pertaining to Salaah have been discussed in this Kitaab as well as the importance of respecting the Adhaan. Generally people are very negligent in regards to this aspect thus we do hope that after reading this Kitaab we correct ourselves and afford the due importance to Adhaan. Ameen! Page 1

If a person gives you an item to protect then you will ensure that it is protected in a good manner. In the same manner we are instructed to protect our Salaah. One aspect of protecting our Salaah is that the internal and Page 2
external aspects of Salaah are correct. The reality of Salaah is present. In this verse we are commanded to protect all our Salaah particularly the middle Salaah. Some of the commentators are of the opinion that it refers to either the Fajr Salaah or Asr Salaah. Further Allah says, and stand in humility and humbleness (for Allah). إ ن الص ال ة ك ان ت ع ل ى ال م ؤ م ن ني ك ت ا ا اب م و ق وات Indeed salaah has been made obligatory for the Mu'mineen at fixed hours (and can therefore not be postponed). THE APPOINTED TIMES OF SALAAH In the second verse of the Quraan Allah says, Verily Salaah has been prescribed upon the believers in their appointed times. The Imaams of the Masajids have to be present for Salaah on their appointed times. Generally if one is not an Imaan then he will procrastinate and delay in the performance of Salaah. The women have been given latitude thus they delay their Salaah to a great extent. They sometimes perform the Salaah after its fixed time making it Qadah. Salaah is a great gift from Allah. The various fundamentals and Ahkaam of Allah were revealed via Jibraeel to such an extent that Imaan was also revealed via Jibraeel. Page 3
The first verse to be revealed was the first verse of Iqra. When Jibraeel approached Rasulullah, he commanded him to recite who responded by saying, I am unable to recite. Then Jibraeel had embraced Rasulullah and squeezed him. This process was repeated thrice. This was Suhbat. What was the outcome of such Suhbat? Rasulullah was blessed with Quraan, the laws of Shariah to such an extent that Rasulullah had become such a Qari that there isn t any such a Qari in the world and neither will there be such a reciter till the day of Qiyaamah. RASULULLAH WAS INVITED BY ALLAH TO BLESS HIM WITH THE GIFT OF SALAAH Rasulullah recited these verses of the Quraan, explained them and physically implemented them. This was the result of the embracement of Jibraeel. Nevertheless, every command of Deen was revealed to Rasulullah but the command of Salaah was not revealed via Jibraeel but Rasulullah was taken up to the heavens. A businessman purchases from his merchants in China via the telephone or , but there is a special item to be introduced then the purchaser is invited to China. Similarly Salaah was so special that Rasulullah was invited by Allah. What a miraculous incident! Rasulullah was resting in the home of Umme Haani from where Jibraeel had Page 4
taken him to the Ka aba Sharif, opened his chest and removed his blessed heart which was then washed with the water of Zam Zam. This was the first heart surgery to take place. A cardiologist explains that when operating on the heart, it is removed. The heart is called Qalb in Arabic which means that it turns or moves. The heart is such that even though it is removed from the body it keeps moving and turning. When a person associates with evil people then the heart is affected very quickly. The heart is also affected when remaining in good company. From the Ka aba Sharif, Rasululah was taken to Baitul Muqaddas where Rasulullah had lead all the Ambiyaa in Salaah. He then ascended towards the heavens and passed by the various heavens until he reached the throne of Allah. At every heaven Jibraeel had sought permission to enter. On reaching the Arsh of Allah Jibraeel tells Rasulullah, If I proceed further to the amount of a strain of hair, I will be burnt to ashes. He then meets with Allah and praises Allah by saying, FIFTY SALAAH Salaah is a Mi raaj of the believer. This is not a Hadith but the meaning is correct. Is our Salaah a Mi raj? Where are Page 5
our minds in Salaah? Therefore it is necessary for us to make Istighfaar at the end of Salaah. This Salaah was so beloved to Allah that initially He had instructed us to perform Salaah 50 times a day. If we analyse it, we will find that every Salaah with the performance of wudhu, Istinja, etc. takes approximately half an hour. If we had to perform Salaah in this manner then it would have taken us 25 hours, thus we would have been in Salaah throughout the day. Moosa said, I had experience with my people that they would not manage performing fifty times Salaah daily. Rasulullah returned to Allah for a decrease until the number of Rakaats were decreased to five. Moosa again requested Rasulullah to go for a further decrease but he said, I fear that these five Salaahs will also be decreased and I will be left with no Salaah. These Salaah were given to Rasulullah directly by Allah. They have been conveyed to us via great Ulema, Fuqaha, Muhadditeen and Sufis. Do we ever appreciate such a great gift? ADHAAN The Deen of Allah is alive throughout the world. There is an Adhaan taking place every second in the world. Throughout the day Salaah is taking place at some part of the world due to time differences. Every Adhaan is a Page 6
complete Da wat. A male has to come to the Masjid which is the house of Allah to perform his five daily Salaah. There is a Muazzin for every Imaam. In previous times, the Muazzin would climb up the Minaarah and call out the Azaan so that his voice will reach far and wide. In previous times when Masjid-un-Nabawi was not very large there would be a Muazzin at every corner of Masjid- Un-Nabawi. A Muazzin would call out the Adhaan from the centre of the Masjid and the four Muazzins would then repeat the words of Adhaan after him. Today, we have the microphone system which is used for Adhaan. This is an invitation from Allah. Before Salaah, Allah has given His complete invitation commencing with the words Allahu Akbar which is called out four times. The term NEWS means North, East, West, South. This is the news of the world. The major elements of the body comprise of four things namely, sand, water, air, fire. Nowadays, chemistry has broken up these elements even further. Cholestrol was one of the factors that causes blockage of the arteries, rather it is an entire chemist that makes up cholesterol. In the Adhaan we are saying that Allah is greater than all these four elements, meaning Allah is greater than what the world has been made of. The greatness of Allah, the corner stone of Islam which is Tauheed is found in the words, أشهد أن ال إلو إال هللا وأشهد أن دمحما عبده ورسولو Page 7
How much has the reality of Tauheed entered us? These realities will enter us if we respond to the Adhaan. Nowadays, the respect of Adhaan and responding to the Adhaan has become totally non-existent. The Adhaan is even ignored in gatherings of Maulana s, Soofies, Tablighis, etc. A person had once come to the Khanqah for I tikaaf for the last ten nights of Ramdaan. I asked him, How did you find the I tikaaf? He expressed his pleasure. However, he found that people do not honour the Adhaan. NOT HONOURING THE ADHAAN A Bid ati went to the Nizamuddin Markaz. He had expressed the benefit he had derived from the work of Dawat and Tabligh but he found that people do not respect the Adhaan. Disrespect towards the Adhaan has been referred to as a sign of hypocrisy. We don t even reply to the Adhaan. If we do reply then perhaps it is only in the beginning of the Adhaan or at the ending of the Adhaan. A Quraan Khatm Jalsa was held at a certain Madrasah. The MC announced that the Adhaan will be delayed by five to seven minutes. Many brothers have come from far so they would like to meet their friends so we have accommodated for that. However, when the Adhaan takes place please keep quiet. We were on Safr and we stopped at a place where we had to perform Asr Salaah in a place where there was a room next to the males Salaah facilities for females. All the ladies were busy Page 8
chatting so I felt like asking, Who is listening? This is generally the nature of women. It is famous that if one wants a secret to be exposed then just call a woman and the secret will be exposed. This quality has now transferred into men. GUARANTEED DEATH UPON IMAAN Hadrat Hakim Saheb has written, If a person responds to the Adhaan then he is guaranteed death upon Imaan. Thereafter a person should send Durood upon Rasulullah. When the Muazzin calls out ان دمحم ا لرسول هللا thenاشهد he does not say, thus the one replying shouldn t add. After reciting Durood, one should recite the Dua of Adhaan. The intercession of Rasulullah has become Waajib for such a person. This intercession is solely reserved for the believers which indicates that there is guarantee that a person will leave the world with Imaan if he responds to the Adhaan and recites the Dua. Many ring tones on the phones are Adhaans. The Adhaan is playing whilst a person is relieving himself in the toilet. This is total disrespect to the Adhaan. Allah has made the Masjids free of charge. The Christians are required to contribute towards the church on a monthly basis. The one that pay more gets the front seat. The same procedure applies to the synagogues as well. We cannot reserve our place in the Masjid by placing one s Topi, handkerchief, key, etc. even though Page 9
one has built the Masjid. Yes, it is a different issue if one was there and had to leave due to some necessity but intends returning then he may reserve his place. We have the misconception that the place directly behind the Imaam is reserved for the Muazzin. He is perhaps the poorest person in the community yet he is honoured with the front row. In many localities, if any person occupies the Muazzins Musallah then he is removed. In the Adhaan the Muazzin calls out, اشهد ان دمحم الرسول هللا This indicates that our success is only in the pattern and lifestyle of Rasulullah. Thereafter the Muazzin calls us to Salaah and success. When a person comes for Salaah, he will come with Tauheed, Risaalat, and then he will attain success. The word Falaah refers to all types of success. Unfortuantely we are in business at the time of Salaah thus we feel that success is in concluding my transaction with my customer. BENEFIT OF RESPECTING THE ADHAAN There was a blacksmith who would be busy working with his tools, striking the steel with his hammer, etc. However, if the Adhaan was called and he is on the verge of striking the next shot, he will never strike the next shot but immediately proceed for Salaah. On this action Allah granted him an elevated position in Jannat. Page 10
The wife of Harun-Ar-Rasheed Zubaida had done a lot of social welfare work. When she was presented before Allah then the pages of her book of deeds were being turned without being shown any specific importance to all her services rendered. Finally they reached a place where she was once very thirsty and requested her slave girl to fetch her a glass of water. She was on the verge of drinking the water when the Adhaan was called out. She had postponed her drinking to a later stage and replied to the Adhaan. On this action, she was forgiven. Some do not reply verbally, yet there are many that do not respond to the Adhaan physically. Those that come physically for Salaah, their minds are absent or wandering elsewhere. WHY COME TO THE MASJID? Allah is calling us to the Masjid for various reasons. One reason is that Allah wants to give us much more than what he has given us. A father has to distribute his inheritance to his children in his lifetime. He has children living in various parts of the world, in different countries. He commands them to present themselves else he will deprive them of their share which is not correct in terms of Shariah. He has given them plenty since birth yet he is still calling them to favour them with more bounties. Similarly, Allah is calling us to give us more. Salaah is the Ibaadat of all the angels. Some of the angels are engaged in the Tasbeeh of Allah, some in Page 11
Takbeer, some in Tahleel, some in Qiyaam, some in Ruku, some in Sajda, etc. and they will remain in these forms of Ibaadat until the day of Qiyaamah. The Ibaadat of all the Malaaikah have been given to us in two Rakaats of Salaah. WORSHIP OF THE VARIOUS CREATIONS The various creations of Allah are in various forms of Ibaadat. The trees are in the Qiyaam posture whilst the four legged animals are in the Ruku posture, the insects in the Sajda posture and mountains are in the Qa da posture. The birds that are chirping are in the Zikr of Allah. The Ibaadat of all these creation have been included in our two Rakaats of Salaah as all these postures are found in Salaah. We still feel that we will receive more in our businesses. On one occasion Hadrat Abu Hurairah went to the market place and announced that the inheritance of Rasulullah is being distributed in the Masjid. When the people reached the Masjid they did not find any material possession being distributed with the exception of knowledge of Deen that was being imparted. They said, We do not find any inheritance being distributed. He replied, This is the actual inheritance. However, our criterion is different. It is reported in the Hadith, Page 12
The Ulema are the inheritors of the Ambiya, Certainly the Ulema do not leave Dinars nor Dirhams (i.e. wealth), but they leave behind knowledge, whoever has taken knowledge has taken his share. The Ulema leave behind knowledge which is their legacy. These things are being distributed in the Masjid. ONE WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO MAKE SAJDA IN JANNAT When we will be blessed with countenance of Allah in Jannat the people will see the Kamal (perfection of Allah ), the Jamal (beauty of Allah ), the nawal of Allah (the favours of Allah ). Every split second we are enjoying the favours of Allah such as the eyes, ears, hands, feet, heart, mind, that function perfectly. If we feel itch then we are able to scratch, and if the scratching becomes too heavy then we go to get a check up as it is not normal. So when a person will realise the greatness of Allah he will want to make Sajda. He will be told that there isn t any Sajda here in Jannat. The performance of Salaah was only in Dunya. Now there is only enjoyment and pleasure. Page 13
We are protected, our families, our homes are all protected due to the mercy of Allah. If we think that the government is responsible for the infrastructure of the country, we are totally deceived as it is Allah alone that does everything. How great is our Allah that he takes care of the elephants, ants, human beings, Jinnat, etc. When a person performs Salaah then he is renewing his contract with Allah that You are our Rabb. Therefore we perform Ruku, Sajda, etc. expressing our total insignificance. We are performing Ruku throughout our life yet our heart hasn t made Ruku unto Allah. We still think that we are running all our affairs and we know how to do things. THE BLESSINGS OF THE KHANQAH The wife of Haji Ahmad Saheb D.B. had seen a dream that whenever he returns from the gatherings of Hadrat Sheikh, he brings a plate of food for her. He then narrated this to Hadrat sheikh who said that the interpretation is clear. He said that the Barakaat that you collect here is being taken home. A true husband is one that relates to his family whatever he hears in the gatherings of the Sheikh. We should make Mudhkara (revise the discourse). We only choose to discuss that which suites us such as Maulana said that we should never ask forgiveness from the wives. This suites us fine. The mercy of Allah descends upon the Ka aba Sharif and it is then distributed over all the daughters of the Page 14
Ka aba referring to all the Masajid in the world. When a Musalli comes to the Masjid, he receives his share. He shouldn t waste his time after Salaah in futile activities but return home with the mercy of Allah. Shaytaan is such an enemy that he knows who to attack. A Shia once told Hadrat Mufti Mahmood Sahib Gangohi that only Sunnis become Qadianis, you will never find a Shia becoming a Qadiani. Mufti sahib replied, Shaytaan does attack people that do not own any possession, he isn t a fool. In other words Shias do not possess Imaan so what is the need to attack them. He knows that Sunnis have Imaan so he attacks them. The thieves of today steal paper. Much greater than paper is the wealth and treasure of Imaan. Generally in Ramadaan people do not sit for Kitaab reading after taraweeh Salaah as it is quite late. However, they have sufficient time to join the PPC which is the pavement panchaat club. This is only one requirement to join this club and that is smoking of Agarbatti. They then discuss the Imaams of Taraweeh, the number of mistakes, the duration of the Salaah, etc. TIME FOR ENTERTAINMENT Many people find it difficult to sit for the Bayaan as it is too long yet they have sufficient time to watch movies at home which last for three hours. A certain religious person spent the entire night watching pornography. In the morning he is making a noise with the family as the Page 15
kids are disturbing him. The kids will certainly disturb as they have to go to school. What is our condition, yet we are pleased with our outward form of Topi, Kurta, and beard. Do we think we will be able to deceive the angels and Allah? When commencing Salaah we should surrender ourselves to Allah. When a soldier is caught then he surrenders by throwing down his weapons. Similarly, we are surrendering to Allah. Our condition is such that we are surrendering outwardly but the weapon is still in our hearts. When one surrenders totally, then his Salaah will become Salaah. Hadrat Maulana Abrar-ul-Haq Sahib Dulyawi used to always take a clean bath and then proceed to the gathering of his Sheikh Hadrat Qari Tayyib Sahib. The most important requirement to benefit is to empty the heart. If the heart is full then how will he benefit in the gathering of the Sheikh? What can the sheikh fill into his heart? Many people say, Nobody can change me. What is the Sheikh going to tell me? He will tell me to perform Salaah, don t look at women, don t be angry with the wife, etc. The glass of this person is absolutely full so what else will be filled. ONE SHOULD SPEND MORE TIME LISTENING Every person has two ears and one tongue. The reason for this is that a person should listen more and talk less. A new born baby is unable to talk but it listens, therefore Page 16
Adhaan and Takbeer are given. If the child is born in a Arabic speaking home, the child will speak perfect Arabic without studying grammar. We will receive if we come here to listen. If a person turns the head he will notice that the ear is a proper funnel and how has Allah designed it with perfection. When a person commences Salaah, then he should shun the things of the world behind him. Thereafter we fasten our hands. Many people fasten the hand as it is fastened in Salaah whilst waiting for Salaah to commence, or whilst delivering a lecture. One is only permitted to fasten their hands for Allah. This method is only practised upon in Salaah. Maulana Abrar-ul-Haq Saheb would stop people from doing so in their Bayaan as this method is exclusively for Allah. If a person had realised that Allah is the greatest with the Adhaan, he then made Wudhu and came purified to the house of Allah so the greatness of Allah is already in a person, and now he is forced to bow down before Allah in Ruku. A person realises the favours of Allah upon him, he has been blessed with the understanding of Deen, the great gift of Salaah, so he says, سبحان ريب العظيم Page 17
In Surah Fateha we read, O Allah! Guide us to the straight path. In this sentence the plural has been used but in the Tasbeeh of Ruku the singular has been used. This is only realised when a person has built a personal relationship with Allah else a person won t even be aware that he has made Ruku. We are so unmindful at times that we sometimes make two Rukus and one Sajda. From Ruku we come up again saying, مسع هللا دلن محده ربنا لك احلمد Now a person is overwhelmed with the favours of Allah to such an extent that he now goes into Sajda. Again in Sajda we say, سبحان ريب االعلي The word Subhana has been used to show that Allah is free from all faults. Human beings are filled with faults even though one is a Buzurg but the Ambiyaa are exempted. The ambiya will have to taste death but there isn t any death for Allah. و ي ب ق ى و ج و ر ب ك ذ و اجل ال ل و ا ل ك ر ام Only the countenance of your Rabb the Possessor of majesty and benevolence shall remain (forever, without ever perishing). You are making Sajda to such a being. If you get connected to Allah, He will bless you with these Page 18
qualities. The time between the two Sajdas is compared to one s life span in the Dunya. OUR SHORT LIFESPANS Once Qari Muhammad Tayyib Saheb was giving a Bayaan in Bombay. Generally his Bayaan would last for two and half to three hours, so the people told Qari Sahib that people are busy and do not have time to sit for a lengthy lecture. He didn t respond to the people. When he commenced his lecture he asked, Is there anyone that is 100 years old? There wasn t anyone. Is there anyone that is 90? No! Is there anyone 80? There was hardly anyone. Is there anyone 70? There were a few and little more in their sixties. He then said, When we stopped giving time for Allah, He decreased our time in this world. When people had plenty of time for Allah, they enjoyed lengthy lifespan. If a person does not want to experience old age there is only one alternative, and that is to die young. When a person comes up from Sajda then it is as though Allah is saying that we have created you from soil, when one returns to the second Sajda then it is as though He is saying that you will die again and we will return you to the soil, and when you finally come up then it is as though He is saying we will revive you for a second time which is the day of Qiyaamah. Page 19
We should understand the Qudrat and power of Allah. When a person sits for At-Tahiyyaat then he should think of Mi raaj. All verbal, physical and monetary forms of Ibaadat are only for Allah, Peace be upon you O Nabie and the mercy of Allah and His blessing, peace be upon us and the pious servants of Allah, I bear witness that there isn t any diety except Allah and I bear witness that verily Muhammad is His servant and messenger Contemplate that if my Salaah is a true Salaah then the mercy of Allah will be upon me. Also, one should ponder and think that we have been blessed with Salaah because of Rasulullah. Then one should think of this quality of Rasulullah that the peace from Allah is not only for me but for all of us. We should think of the entire creation including the Jinnaat. We should have a heart like the heart of our Nabie. THE LOVE OF RASULULLAH FOR THIS UMMAT When a person is with his beloved then he doesn t think of anyone else. Rasulullah was closest to Allah Page 20
when reciting the At-Tahiyaat yet he remembered the entire Ummat. The angels were pleased to hear this that they said, أشهد أن ال إلو إال هللا وأشهد أن دمحما عبده ورسولو I bear witness that there is no diety except Allah and I bear witness that certainly Muhammad is His servant and messenger Then one should recite Durood Sharif. When reciting Durood one has his shopping basket in front of him. He should ask himself, Has my Salaah landed in my basket or is it still empty? We cannot perform Salaah as it ought to be performed so finally one terminates his Salaah by reciting the Dua, اللهم إين ظلمت نفسي ظلماكثريا وإنو ال يغفر الذنوب إال أنت فاغفر يل مغفرة من عندك وارمحين انك انت الغفور الرحيم O Allah! Verily I have oppressed myself greatly (by committing sins), and none will forgive sins except You, thus forgive me with a complete forgiveness from Your side and shower Your mercy upon me, verily You are Most Forgiving, Most Merciful. One should read this with its reality and be ashamed of oneself. This is the object of Islaah and Tasawwuf. One must learn to admit his faults. When people make Page 21
excuses and try to cover their faults they will not reform. If the glass falls whilst sitting on the Dastarkhaan, Hadrat would ask, What happened. The person that dropped it would reply by saying that the glass fell. Hadrat would become angry and say, Did it fall on its own? Why don t you say that you dropped it? You were clumsy and dropped it but you not prepared to take responsibility. A person that is in a state of denial will never benefit. We asked for Maaf for all our mistakes in the end by wrapping it up in a nice gift wrapper. Now one doesn t even know which mistake is being referred to. We should seek forgiveness immediately. ISLAAH IS IN TOTALLY ANNILIHATING ONESELF Hadrat used to tell Meer Saheb to stand up and state that he is a donkey and he had erred. This is when Islaah will get done. Today, who can these things be said to? Once I told Hadrat Meer sahib, Hadrat is making you the target but he is in fact telling us. How many of us are being corrected but we think others are being corrected. How will we benefit when we don t take it for ourselves. There are also those that take it all for themselves even though they are not implied. Nevertheless this is the seeking of forgiveness at the end of Salaah. Finally a person makes Salaam and makes Niyyat of the angels, then only will a person attain the great benefits of Salaah. Ensure that we perform our Qadhaa Salaah. We owing a hundred thousand yet we are giving the creditor stok sweets. We have Qadhaa yet we performing Nawafil. Page 22
If we have Qadhaa fasts then we should keep the Qadhaa. We keep Nafl fast but the Qadhaa fast is ignored. If a person is owing his supplier, he will not supply goods until the outstanding amounts are settled. Allah is so kind that he will still supply us. At the same time we should be regular with our five daily Salaah, and then try to improve the condition of our Salaah by increasing our concentration and devotion. May Allah grant us the Taufeeq. Ameen! Page 23
