5 Report No.1 : 20 July -20 September The student movement A large number of students of universities and colleges were summoned by judiciary officials, investigated by police, and detained. They were sentenced to be jailed or expelled, amerced to the delinquent, to imminent flogging, or deprived of their studies. University disciplinary committees (komiteh enzebati) throughout Iran are reportedly holding hearings of students allegedly involved in proreform protests over the last year. 6 3 students of University in Kerman The journalists The waves of arresting of journalists have continued in the last month too. Many of the journalists were summoned by the state prosecutors office or court, accused of engaging in different kinds of political activities, investigated by police, detained, and sentenced to be put in jail or in isolation. Despite pressure from the world community, journalists who have already been jailed have still not been released. The political activists Many political activists were summoned by judiciary officials, or detained, and sentenced to jail. Some political activists, who have already been jailed, have been isolated. Among them are: Taghi Rahmani, Reza Alijani, Hoda Saber, Behroz Tairani, Maziar Aslani, Mehrdad Saaid Asgari, Ali Khaleghi, Akbar Khansar, Fatemeh Ghazaghi, Parviz Siabi Grjan, Abbas Lesani, Ramin Naseh, Ahmad Abol Hossinian, Mehran Godarzi, Behroz Safari, Mohsen Sazegara, Alireza Alavi Tabar, Keivan Mehregan, Abbas Abdi. Closing of the centre for young intellectuals. Mr. Ayat allah Sajdadi, the consulting member of judiciary, was summoned in connection to his opinion about the execution order of Mr. Hashem Aghajari. The judiciary prevented Mr. Abbas Amir Entezam, the eldest prisoner in Iran, from a visiting physician. Pressure of parliamentary deputies Two parliamentary deputies, Mohsen Armin and Ali Ghanbari, have been summon by the court, despite their immunity. These deputies have allegedly criticised the judiciary. Murder, deaths penalty and questionable death The body of Peyam Dadkhah who was arrested 2 month ago in connection with student demonstrations this year, has been found on the mountains in northern Tehran. Two persons were executed in Kermanshah, west of Iran. They were hanged in public. Two other persons, Hamid Ghohari and Saber Hadjipor, were shot by the police. 6

7 There was also a death of a worker from the Iran khodro factory in Tehran. The cause of death was believed to be work related stress. A man, by the name Mehdi, was sentenced to execution. Flogging of seven persons in Bandar Abbas in the south of Iran. According to official news were arrested in connection with different allegation. The Committee of Defence of Human Rights in Iran, based in Sweden, urge the world community, in its upcoming Human Rights Dialogue with Iranian regime, to call for the stop of violation of human rights in Iran. The student movement The pressure against student movement continued increasing even during the last month. The committee of defence of human rights in Iran have observed a large number of cases. Students of universities and colleges were summoned by judiciary officials, investigated by police, and detained. Many of the students were also sentenced to be jailed or expelled, amerced to the delinquent, to imminent flogging, or deprived of their studies.the description below shows a detailed picture of events. We also demand a stop to all inhumane penalties and tortures. Report No. 3: 21 October- 20 November2003 Our monthly report includes only news that has been officially reported by Iranian media. During the last month Iran continued to be one of the countries there the most of violation of human rights noted. The committee of defence of human rights in Iran have monitored the social and political development in the country carefully. We have observed a large number of cases which reported by officials, media and opposition. Both political activists and students of different universities were summoned by judiciary officials, investigated by police, and detained. Many of the students were also 11

12 sentenced to be jailed or expelled, amerced to the delinquent, to imminent flogging, or deprived of their studies. We have some cases there a group of students became kidnapped by the security or military forces. The student movement The students of Iranian universities faced a difficult situation. Many of them have been investigated by security police and inelegant organisations. A hug number of them summon and accused by the judiciary officials or university disciplinary committees (Komiteh enzebati). As our report shows the amount of cases of violation of human rights concerning students raised dramatically compared to the last period.
