By the grace of Mahalakshmi, blessings from all of you as well as with the help and cooperation of our Board of Trustees and Executive Committee, I hope that I will be able to fulfill this great responsibility bestowed upon me. You probably noticed that last year, our temple management has done a spectacular job of operating our great organization smoothly and bringing a record number of devotees from various communities. This year we are looking forward to even more participation from the community. Like previous year, I am anticipating of celebrating numerous special and big events this year. 3 Sincerely, Omana Nair Message from the President Omana Nair President, D/FW Hindu Temple Society Darsanam no didrksunam dehi bhagavatarcitam Rupam priyatamam svanam sarvendriya-gunanjanam Namaskar Dear Devotees, First of all let me offer my humble pranams to Goddess Mahalakshmi for giving me the health and opportunity to serve the humanity. It is an honor and blessing to be the new president of our Mandir. I am humbled by this responsibility and will put forward my best efforts to serve the temple and our community. I will strive to follow in the footsteps of my predecessors and work with EC/BOT members as a team to make all our events successful. On January 1 st, we started with Ganesh Homam, Abhishekam, Alankaram and Sahasranamarchana and it was a very successful event. A huge crowd waited patiently in long lines throughout the day to have Dharshan in the Temple. On Jan 11 th, we conducted the very holy Vaikunta Ekadashi following the pattern of puja conducted in the major temples of India including the Balaji Temple at Tirupathi. Vasant Panchami celebration was the next major event. Vidya Vikas children had the opportunity to worship Goddess Saraswati Devi, who is the embodiment of intellect and wisdom. Bhishma Ekadashi has been observed to mark the day when Bhishma, a hero of Mahabharata, gave up his mortal body after the war at Kurukshetra.. We are planning to conduct several new Spiritual, Cultural, and Yoga events this year in addition to the ones specified in the Temple Calendar. Holi, the festival of colors, will be celebrated with great Pomp and Show with dry colors as devotees rejoice welcoming the spring season. Inside the cultural hall, we will be hosting Anand Bazaar where people may take a break and relax with a wonderful variety of food, drinks and entertainment. Ugadi/Guddi Padva will be celebrated on March 31 st as it is the New Yearís day for some parts of India. Chaitri Navaratri with Raas Garba is from April 1 st though April 8 th and Durgashatami Havan on April 7 th. The very colorful Kavadi festival for Lord Kumara will be held on April 12 th. We will also be conducting Sri Ramanavami and Baisakhi and Makarasankranti in April. April 14 th marks the New Yearís day for some other regions of India. Shiva Sahasra linga shodasa aavarana puja will be conducted from April 17 th to 20 th. It is our great fortune that Her Holiness Sri Karunamayee Ma will participate in this function. Our General Body meeting is scheduled for 23 March at 1:00 pm and I would like to stress the importance of your participation in it to discuss various issues pertaining to our temple. Our temple has grown tremendously due to the tireless contribution of hundreds of selfless volunteers and with your continued financial support. We have added new facilities for our children and continue to modernize the existing structures. Our Vidya Vikas program is well respected in the community and the Volunteer Teachers are second to none. One of our main goals was to build a user-friendly and simple to navigate site and make Temple information accessible to you whenever and wherever. The new design allows the users to quickly find the contents that are most important. Regards, Temple Web Committee Dear devotees, Many people from different faiths have shown interest in getting to know more about our religion and our Temple. So we at the temple, have a program that gives them a tour of the temple, meditation hall and the temple campus. The visit includes a short presentation on Hinduism. We introduce them to basic tenets and principles, how our religion differs from others, misconceptions about our religion etc. and answer their questions to the best of our knowledge. We have had visits from many different schools, churches, universities from as far as Arkansas, synagogues, chaplains from hospitals and a lot of individual college students and teachers. We have had visitors as many as 100 or more in a group. We welcome all who would like to know more about our Temple, religion or culture. Non Hindu view of life I am the body. We pray to her by showing our gratitude to provide balance, prosperity and abundance on earth by maintaining ecological balance.according to scriptures when rains failed for 100 years resulting in severe drought, pleased by the prayers of sages,shakambari created all the grains, fruits and vegetables and greens from her own body with her own energy. 16 D/FW Hindu Temple Vidya Vikas Corner Vidya Vikas school year got off to an eventful start on Sept 8 th, We have very good registration this school year has been a year of activity ñ Vedic Heritage, Saraswathi Murthi Sthapana, Rangoli Competition. Vedic Heritage day - The children of Levels 0, 1 and 2 dressed up in colorful costumes in celebration of on Oct 27, 2012 and paraded in the Assembly Hall. Rangoli competition was held in November. We had overwhelming participation. The children filled the entire Assembly Hall with their colorful art work. Saraswathi Murthi Sthapana - The Vidya Vikas children participated in this event in Nov and sought the blessings of Goddess Saraswathi. Classes resumed on Jan 5, 2014 after the winter break. We are looking forward to a busy Vidya Vikas Annual day - Vidya Vikas is working excitedly towards the Vidya Vikas Annual day to be held on Feb 23 rd when Vidya Vikas children will take us on a journey through India and Hinduism. We request all to come and enjoy their performance of the Vidya Vikas children and encourage them. Registration for the school year will begin 1 st week of April. Their first event of the year was the food drive. On Diwali day, the Youth shared their joy by doing a good deed at the North Texas Food Bank. This time, it was Bagging APPLES!! Volunteering in NTFB is always a fun experience and we get to do something different each time!!! If you have not had a chance to volunteer at NTFB, look out for the on this FUN Service opportunity!!! It is time now to start working on our favorite events ñ Car Wash, Anand Bazaar and Mothers Day Picnic and Walkathon. 18 D/FW Hindu Temple Vidya Vikas School Corner In fall 2013, Vidya Vikas added Hindu Leadership Development class for the senior students. The primary objective of the class is to develop leadership skills through open discussion and debate in the class on a variety of religious topics with conflicting and confusing views by the students. Each student is encouraged to actively participate and express opinions in a non-competitive environment. A student moderates each class which will also help him/her develop communication skills.
