All glories to Çréla Prabhupäda! On the first of March we celebrated the divine appearance of Lord Caitanya Mahäprabhu. On March 18 we will celebrate the Appearance of Lord Rämacandra. Lord Rämacandra set the standard of an ideal ruler. This standard, known as räma-räjya, is still hankered after today by those who have heard of His glorious pastimes! The spread of the Kåñëa consciousness movement through book distribution, prasädam distribution, and harinäma will induce average citizens to desire, perhaps even demand, leaders who are at least aspiring devotees of Lord Räma! ÇRÉLA PRABHUPÄDA SAID As mentioned in our Introduction, There is a need for the science of Kåñëa in human society for the good of all suffering humanity of the world, and we simply request the leaders of all nations to pick up this science of Kåñëa for their own good, for the good of society and for the good of all the world s people. So it is confirmed herein by the example of Mahäräja Yudhiñöhira, the personality of goodness. In India the people hanker after räma-räjya because the Personality of Godhead was the ideal king and all other kings or emperors in India controlled the destiny of the world for the prosperity of every living being who took birth on the earth. Herein the word prajäù is significant. The etymological import of the word is that which is born. On the earth there are many species of life, from the aquatics up to the MARCH 2018 perfect human beings, and all are known as prajäs. Lord Brahmä, the creator of this particular universe, is known as the prajäpati because he is the grandfather of all who have taken birth. Thus prajä is used in a broader sense than it is now used. The king is meant to protect all living beings, namely the aquatics, plants, trees, reptiles, birds, animals and man. Every one of them is a part and parcel of the Supreme Lord (Bg. 14.4), and the king, being the representative of the Supreme Lord, is duty-bound to give proper protection to every one of them. 6 BBT Press release For immediate release Contact: BBT Marketing, Communications and Innovations Department Now online: Gita changes for Chapter Ten The annotated scans for Chapter Ten of Bhagavad-gita As It Is are now online at The scans for this chapter are the latest in a series that shows all the revisions done for the transliterations, word meanings, and purports of the second edition. Nearly every revision also has a note explaining why it was done, along with an image from the BBT s oldest manuscripts, allowing you to verify the history for yourself. Jayadvaita Swami did his revisions for the second edition on a physical copy of the first edition. The scans show that copy. (Revisions to the translations aren t shown, because he edited them separately, not in the book itself.) Each chapter forms one downloadable PDF file. The revisions to this chapter were extensive, so the scans for this chapter give you much to see. You ll see twelve Sanskrit quotations and several lost passages in English now recovered. You ll see various mishearings corrected. For example, in the purport to text 27 the demigods and the demons no longer take a sea journey in which nectar and poison are produced. In the manuscript the sea journey was a journey of the sea, which of course should have been churning of the sea. And in the purport to text 29 you ll see that Aryäma no longer mistakenly presides over a planet of trees. You ll see several places where the original editor misunderstood what the manuscript intended and the 1983 edition has recovered the correct sense. In texts 28 and 29, you ll see from the original manuscript why Kåñëa says He is Vasuki among serpents but Ananta among snakes. You ll see restored to the purport of text 36 a biting comment about an unfortunate commentator who wants to cheat Kåñëa and the public by saying that there is something greater than Kåñëa. Apart from images for specific changes, the scans for this chapter include six complete sample pages from the original manuscripts. Whether you re for the changes, against them, or neutral, here s another opportunity to see what the changes actually are. For devotees who have been critical of the second edition but are thoughtful and open-minded, the scans for this chapter provide ample food for thought. This year, as always, we request you to submit your homage to Çréla Prabåhupäda for his Vyäsa-püjä book by April 15. In addition, if you re a direct disciple of Çréla Prabhupäda, please check out to learn about a Vyäsa-püjä book open to all of his disciples. The deadline for submission to this book is also April 15. The standards for submitting an offering to the traditional Vyäsa-püjä book (the one published by the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust) are as follows: Offerings must be in English. Please restrict the length to a maximum of 3,000 words. Please omit all diacritics on words that can be found in the VedaBase. It s easier for us to put them in. If you quote a verse from outside the VedaBase or compose original Sanskrit, please include diacritics. Do not recycle an offering no offerings from previous years will be accepted. The Vyäsa-püjä book is meant for glorifying Çréla Prabhupäda, not venting grievances. The BBT reserves the right to reject an offering it deems inappropriate or to ask for a rewrite. When writing an offering on behalf of a temple or other unit, please try to write in such a way that the other devotees in your unit can also identify with the offering. Please define all abbreviations that not everyone will know. ISKCON and GBC are fine without explanation, but an abbreviation such as BACE isn t. At the first mention one should write Bhaktivedanta Academy for Culture and Education (BACE). Afterward, BACE alone is OK. Who may write an offering? 1) Governing Body Commissioners 2) Sannyāsīs 3) Authorized representatives of ISKCON temples, preaching centers, farms, gurukulas, BBT offices, and others, such as BTG magazine and ISCOWP (this is not a complete list). If there is some doubt, we will request you to send written authorization from your GBC representative. 4) No multiple offerings. For example, a temple should not enlist all its bhaktas to write offerings under the temple heading. Joint authorship (2-4 devotees) of a single offering is fine. 5) Please make sure you tell us where the offering originates. For example: New Vaàçévaöa (the Madagascar farm community), not just New Vaàçévaöa. If we don t know where the offering comes from, we will not print it. 6) Always leave a double space between paragraphs. If you want some special formatting, submit your offering as an attached file in Microsoft Word or RTF format. 7) Submit your offering by ing it to Draviòa Däsa at dravida108@gmail.com. Offerings may be submitted any time from now until April 15, We will confirm receipt of your offering by . If you do not receive a confirmation, resend it.
