Tour Itinerary Day 1 Mumbai - huj Arrive in Mumbai, where you will be met by a Travel The Unknown representative and transferred to your connecting flight to huj. huj N/A On arrival in huj, transfer to your hotel. Later in the day, visit the hudoji village that is a major textile centre of Kutch. The vast majority of its 1,200 inhabitants are involved in textile handicraft production. Here, you you can meet weavers and Rabari artists, most of whom belong to the Vankar community. Overnight in huj. --The walled city of huj is the headquarters of the Kutch district and is named after the hujia Fortress, which overlooks the city from a nearby hill. huj is known for its wide variety of handicrafts, like Kutchi embroidery with mirror work and hand printed textiles. The region is littered with many sites associated with the Indus Valley Civilisation. ID P a g e 2

Day 2 anni tribal villages huj After breakfast, visit tribal villages in anni (hirandiyara, Hodka and Dhorado), where you will interact with the natives and see their unique textiles and embroideries.

Some of the most important embroidery work is Rabari, Ahir, avalia (or Kutchi harat ), Sindhi, Aari and Soof (or Sodha harat ).

4 Day 2 anni tribal villages huj After breakfast, visit tribal villages in anni (hirandiyara, Hodka and Dhorado), where you will interact with the natives and see their unique textiles and embroideries. Overnight in huj. --The anni villages are a cluster of many small villages, such as hirandiyara, Hodka and Dhorado, where you can see local tribes and their textiles. Some of the most important embroidery work is Rabari, Ahir, avalia (or Kutchi harat ), Sindhi, Aari and Soof (or Sodha harat ). Mutva embroidery in anni (Dhorado village) is famous for Gotam stick or Sindhi Kadai. In the anni area, the embroidery work is also done on leather shoes (or Mojdi ), purses, belts and wallets. The Hodko village in anni is famous for Meghwal embroidery and leather work. The hirandiyara village is famous for its bungas (local houses/huts) with intricate interior/exterior designs and wood carvings. The community living here is called Meghwal and they are famous for their unique embroidery work. The Dhorado village is famous for its Mutva embroidery and quilting. Every hamlet in the mud house Hodka village has their own distinct designs and patterns, because the people of Hodka use dung and natural earth-toned dyes to decorate their houses. The people are famous for their leather craft. Total travel time : 5 hours Day 3 Dasada huj - Dasada After breakfast, drive to Dasada. En route, stop at Dhaneti village to see the Ahir embroidery community s work by the Ahir and Rabari people. You will then continue on to Dhamadka village to see some block printing work by the Khatari people. Overnight in Dasada. --Dasada, located on the peripheries of a salt marsh named the 'Little Rann of Kutch', is a popular bird-watching destination. The marsh ecosystem and nearby lakes attract many large flocks of different bird species between October and March. Some of the villagers, whose homes border the desert, are farmers, while other villagers are artisans. The unique crafts of Dasada tribes are embroidery and silk weaving. 5 Day 4 Rabari tribe Dasada Enjoy a morning safari in the Wild Ass Sanctuary and return to your hotel. Later in the afternoon, go on a village safari to meet different cultural communities and see their embroidery, weaving and bead work. The women of Rabari do exquisite embroidery using small mirrors and chain stitches in beautiful peacock motifs, among others. Overnight in Dasada. --The Rabari tribe are a nomadic/semi-nomadic community of cattle raisers that live in western India. They migrated there from Sindh (now in Pakistan) about 400 years ago and many of their relatives still live there. Their name means 'ones who lives outside' and they have wonderful stories about their origin. According to myth, they tended camels owned by Parvati, the Hindu goddess of love. LD A fundamental expression of Rabari identity is their tradition of embroidery. Glass mirrors are frequently sewn into fabrics by intricate stich-work, creating designs inspired by Hindu myths. Peacock motifs are especially popular. Rabari women normally wear black garments and are frequently tattooed with magical symbols and letters. The men wear a long white dhoti and matching turban. The only sanctuary for the endemic Asiatic wild ass in India, the Indian Wild Ass Sanctuary features a number of other mammals including the black buck antelope, nilgai and Indian wolf. Visitors can also expect sightings of the Aquila eagle, flamingo and three different species of pelicans. Day 5 Modhera Dasada - Poshina After breakfast, drive to Poshina. Along the way, stop at Modhera and see the Salvi family in Patan, where you will have lunch at a local restaurant. Continue driving to Poshina, on the way stopping at Rani Ki Vav, Sidhpur and ohra Muslim s Old Havelis and Mansions, which are over 100 years old and have a decidedly European flavour. Overnight in Poshina. --The famous Sun Temple dedicated to the Hindu Sun God (Surya) is located in Modhera. It was built in 1026 AD by King himdev of the Solanki dynasty and is one of the finest examples of Indian temple architecture of its period. The temple stands high on a plinth overlooking a deep stone-steeped tank, which was once known as Surya Kund or Rama Kund. The tank is magnificently carved with Gods and Goddesses, birds, beasts and flowers and has a series of carved steps leading to the bottom. Remarkably, during equinoxes, the first rays of the sun fall on the image of Surya. L Patan is famous for Patola weaving, which is made using the 'double ikat' techniques. The weavers make their special Patola loom and dyeing colours from local natural materials. The one-of-a-kind Patola Museum documents the history of Patan Patola, a textile that combines the techniques of tying, dyeing and weaving. The magnificent east-facing Rani Ki Vav ('Queen s Step Well') was constructed during the Solanki dynasty, between 1022 and 1063 AD. It is the oldest and the grandest stepwell in the state of Gujarat. The stepwell is decorated with many beautiful sculptures devoted to Vishnu in the forms of Dus-Avatars Kalki. ID P a g e 4

6 Sidhpur is the site of the 12th century temple ruins of Rudra Mahalaya, a magnificent temple built by Raja Siddhraj and dedicated to Lord Shiva. According to ancient documents, it had a three-storey shikhara and 12 entrance doors. Poshina is the home of many colourful tribal communities and is an ideal place to enjoy the simplicity of traditional village life. Here, you can find a fascinating shrine full of thousands of terracotta horses that stand as offerings. Total travel time : 5 hours Day 6 Ahmedabad Poshina - Ahmedabad After breakfast, enjoy a village safari to the nearby tribal communities of Garasieas and hils. After lunch, drive to Ahmedabad. Overnight in Ahmedabad. --The former capital of the state of Gujarat, Ahmedabad is one of the fastest growing cities of the last decade. It is located on the banks of the Sabarmati river and earned the nickname 'Manchester of the East' while under ritish rule for its developing textile industry. Ahmedabad is home to a fascinating mix of architecture, ranging from ritish colonial to early Indo-Saracenic. Total travel time : 4 hours Day 7 Mumbai Ahmedabad - Mumbai After breakfast, take a heritage walking tour around Ahmedabad city and see the Jain temples, Hindu Swaminarayan Temple, unique Pols housing cluster, decorated Havelis buildings and the Manek Chowk food market. After the heritage walk, visit the Calico Museum. Proceed to Mahatma Gandhi s residence on the bank of the Sabarmati river, known as Sabarmati Ashram (or Gandhi Ashram), where he lived with his wife Kasturba. In the afternoon, you will be transferred to Ahmedabad airport to board your flight to Mumbai. On arrival at Mumbai airport, transfer to your hotel and have the evening free to spend as you wish. Overnight in Mumbai. --Mumbai is the most populous city in India, the economical and commercial centre of the country and the home of ollywood, the Hindi film industry. Mumbai's most famous site is the Gateway of India, a 26-metre-high arch built to commemorate the landing of King George V and Queen Mary in India in Other important landmarks include the Marine Drive boulevard, known as the 'Queen's Necklace' due to its resemblance to a pearl necklace when viewed at night from above; Dhobi Ghat, the world s largest open air laundry; Crawford Market, the largest market in Mumbai, named after the first Municipal Commissioner of the city, Arthur Crawford; and the Victoria Terminus railway station, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The latter is famous for its blend of Gothic Revival and traditional Mughal architectural styles, and was built to commemorate Queen Victoria s golden jubilee. In 1996 it was renamed to Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, after the founder of the Maratha Empire. ID P a g e 5

Day 8 Mumbai - hubaneshwar At an appropriate time, you will be transferred to the airport to board your flight for hubaneshwar. On arrival to hubaneshwar airport, transfer to your hotel. Conclude your visit at the caves of Khandagiri and Udaigiri, which feature ancient Jain architecture. Overnight in hubaneshwar. --hubaneshwar hubaneshwar, once known as 'Temple City', is the capital city of Orissa. It used to be home to thousands of medieval stone temples. Now, the old city s holy centre contains 50 remaining structures and is a revered pilgrimage site for both uddhists and Hindus. One of the most frequented temples is the 10th century Lingaraj temple dedicated to Shiva, covered in carvings and standing at 55m. Modern hubaneshwar was laid out by German town planner Otto Koenigsberger and is very pleasant, with wide roads and many green areas. Day 9 hubaneshwar - Puri After breakfast, drive to Puri. En route, visit Dhauli (the peace pagoda), Pipli (the appliqué work village) and the Konark Sun Temple (a world heritage site). Continue to Puri and check in to your hotel. Puri D In the afternoon, visit the local market of Puri and the Jagannath Temple (where nonhindus are unfortunately not allowed inside). It is one of the holiest places in India and you can get a good photograph of the crowds of devotees it attracts. Overnight in Puri. --Puri is one of the holiest pilgrimage places in India, as it is the site of the famous temple of Lord Jagannath ('Lord of the Universe'). Its golden sand beach and fantastic sea views are also a major attraction, especially popular with surfers. Total travel time : 6 hours Day 10 Gopalpur Puri - Gopalpur After breakfast, drive to Gopalpur. Along the way, visit the artisan village of Raghurajpur and take a ferry on the Chilka Lake to see migratory birds. Have lunch at a local restaurant. Afterwards, continue driving to Gopalpur and check in to your hotel. 8 Day 11 Rayagada Gopalpur - Rayagada After breakfast, drive to Rayagada. En route, visit Taptapani, the hot sulpheric spring on the mountain, and the Saura and Kumuti tribal villages. On arrival, check in at your hotel. Overnight in Rayagada. --Rayagada is a very scenic district of India filled with a variety of natural landscapes, including meadows, forests and waterfalls. D Total travel time : 8 hours Day 12 Jeypore Day 13 Jeypore Day 14 Jagdalpur Rayagada - Jeypore Morning drive to Chatikona s Dongaria Kondh Tribe market (Wednesdays only). The Dongaria people come down with their forest produce to sell/barter with non-tribals, which is an interesting event to watch. Drive to Jeypore, visiting the Desia Kondh and Mali Tribal Villages en route. Overnight in Jeypore. --Jeypore is a small town that is scenically surrounded by mountains on all sides. People living here speak four different languages: Oriya, Telugu, Hindi and engali. There are three main temples (Lord Jagannath Temple, Lord Shiva Temple and Swamy Vivekananda Temple) that are located on three different hills. Jeypore - Ankadelli - Jeypore D Drive to Ankadelli after breakfast, where you will see the colourful weekly market of the onda, Gadaba and Didayee tribes (Thursdays only). The ondas live in remote hills and are seen only when they come to trade at the local market. The onda women can be recognised by their beaded necklaces, striking brass/silver necklaces, their shaved heads decorated with plaits of Palmyra leaves and beautiful caps made with beads and clips. Overnight in Jeypore. Jeypore - Jagdalpur D After breakfast, drive to Kunduli to witness the largest tribal market of the Paroja and Mali people. Visit the Sana Paroja tribal villages. Later, continue your drive to Jagdalpur. On the way, visit the Kot-pad village to see the art of natural dye-making using cow dung. Go to the Dhurva tribal market at Nagarnar in the afternoon (Fridays only). Overnight in Jagdalpur. --The city of Jagdalpur lies in the astar District. It is known as the tourism capital of Chhattisgarh and makes the perfect site from which to explore surrounding sights such as Chitrakote Falls and Kotumsar Cave. LD ID P a g e 7

Explore the Nayennar village to see the hospitable ison Horn Maria tribes, famous for the ison Horm Marria dances they organise in their village. Conclude your sightseeing with a visit to the beautiful Chitrakoot waterfalls and check in to your hotel. Evening free. Overnight in Chitrakoot. --Chitrakote has religious, cultural, historical and archeological significance to the region. Yet it is most famous for the horseshoe-shaped Chitrakote waterfalls. They are the largest in the country and are often called the 'Niagara Falls of India'. The area around the falls is filled with dense forests and eye-catching birds that provide a great backdrop for enjoying the view. Chitrakoot - Kanker D Have breakfast at the hotel and begin driving to Kanker. On the way, stop by the Kondagaon village, which is famous for its wrought iron work, lost wax process and their terracotta works. Later, visit the weekly bazaar of the Kondagaon of Malhara and Gond tribes (Sundays only). Overnight in Kanker. --Kanker is the district capital that used to be the administrative seat of the princely state of Kanker during the colonial period of the ritish Raj. The Kondagaon tribe is famous for their handicrafts made from wax - vessels, jewellery and decorations. It is a great place to stock up on tribal souvenirs. With over 10 million people, the Gond tribe is the largest in Central India, Asia and potentially even the world. They have a God named orodeo, who is widely respected and oversees the lesser gods. Each clan then has their own Persa Pen god that protects all clan members and is basically good, but can be perilous and violent at times. The Gonds (hill people) have a rich art tradition, with pottery, tattooing and painting being especially popular. They enjoy painting their houses in red- and black- themed designs to celebrate festivals. The Gond tribe is very interesting from the cultural perspective. Total travel time : 6 hours Day 17 Kanker In the morning, go on a full-day excursion to the Muria tribal village and see the Gotul tradition where young boys and girls stay together in a dormitory to choose their partner for the dance and feast happening later.
