3 Preserving ancient Indian heritage in all its manifestations has been the fulcrum of activities of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan since inception in Re-invigorating these ideals, the Bengaluru Kendra has pioneered several programmes that have focussed on leaving a lasting legacy for future generations. Taking it to the common man through varied media such as performing arts, seminars and institutionalized teaching of many branches of Indian knowledge has been the road map chosen by the Bengaluru Kendra to keep alive Indian culture. The Kendra has especially focussed on this, its pioneering work in resurrecting rare and fading arts in eleven States across the country and conducting international conferences on Indian scriptures being its landmark contribution in recent years. The visionary outlook and focus on reaching out to youth MESSAGE OF RAMAYANA A UNIQUE THREE DAY FESTIVAL FROM JULY 6, 7 & 8, through all these activities has ensured the participation of youngsters in these programmes. Since 2013, the Kendra has been holding mega annual conferences on Indian scriptures of antiquity and world literature - Veda Samvada (2013), Upanishad Sandesha (2014), Message of Mahapuranas (2015), Message of Mahakavyas (2016) and Message of Bhagavata (2017). Over 300 top doctoral scholars from across the country have participated in the seminars, presenting about 300 papers, each one of the topics having a connection and relevance to present times, lending them practical value. 25 established scholars were honoured on the occasion. As an integral part of disseminating knowledge through these seminars, book exhibitions were held as an adjunct to the main event, with every evening devoted to music, dance and theatre, their themes
4 drawn from the seminar topics. The international conferences were a holistic intellectual, literary, and cultural coming together of the best in the chosen fields, interspersed with the recitation of Vedas all through. The Kendra acknowledges that ISKCON, Bengaluru, has given unconditional support, without whose active involvement, the conferences would not have been so successful. This year too, the Bengaluru Bhavan and ISKCON are organizing a three-day seminar, Message of Ramayana, from July 6th to 8th, focussing on topics such as cosmology, geography, genealogy, yoga, legends, music and dance. The most important outcome and lasting legacy of Bengaluru Bhavan, has been the documentation of all the conferences in both book and digital form, which is of great archival value. to 11.00am 4

Bhavan s Bengaluru kendra on 1 st May 2018, conferred the Dr. B Saroja Devi National Award on renowned film maker Shri Rajendra Singh (Babu). The Award which was instituted in 2010 by the legendary actress, recognises the recipient s outstanding contribution to cinema. It is rare that an artist recognises the contribution of a co-artist and lauds this in the form of an award. This is the hall mark of 9 magnanimity and passion for the industry, said H.N. Suresh, Director Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. Delivering the felicitation address Shri N. Ramanuja, Chairman, Bhavan Bangalore Kendra praised Dr. B. Saroja Devi for her commitment to support artists. He also presented the profile of multi fascination personalities of the award winner Sri. Rajendra Singh Babu on this occasion.

Rajendra Singh (Babu) Chief guest Dr. Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Shree Kshetra Dhamasthala who presented the award to Rajendra Singh said in his address, artists through their cinema have the power to make an impact and stay etched in the minds of people. The hard work they put into a film packaged in three hours is amazing; in this short span they live through the joys and sorrows of life enabling audience to experience them. It is essential to recognise and applaud this. Recalling the contributions made to society by veteran actors Dr. Rajkumar and Dr. Vishnuvardhan, Dr. Heggade said, cinema has become a guiding factor in politics and society; this has been increasing the popularity of cinema artists. There is no greater treasure than acquiring the love and appreciation of people. If veteran actors like Dr. Raj Kumar and 10

Saroja Devi, while others join Dr.Vishnuvardhan have garnered so much love and respect it is because they have incorporated and practiced good values in their personal lives and have given back to society in the form of service. Such compassion and philanthropy is seen only in a few people. Cinema has played a significant role in shaping the economy and social fabric of society. It is only when artists incorporate values they portray on the silver screen into their real lives and become role models that society will recognise and 11 respect them. One of the mass marriages performed in Sreekshetra Dharmasthala has been showcased in the film Shravana Banthu. Former minister and veteran actor Ambarish who graced the occasion said, one need not be in politics to render service to people. Dr. Veerendra Heggade is a classic example of this; the amount of service they have rendered to society in terms of healthcare and education is unparalleled. Dr. Saroja Devi reminisced the support and
