2 Activities of SSSST, Chitrakoot during October-December 2010 Evidence Based Management systems workshop, LAICO, Madurai, October 4 5, 2010 The workshop was aimed to demonstrate the importance and benefits of using information and evidence for managing hospitals. Mr. Anand Sudhan, Head Centre for Community Ophthalmology demonstrated the evidence used at SSSST SNC guiding decision making in the organization in monitoring programs and towards expansion of facilities. The participants included hospital heads, administrators and IT staff from various organizations in India, Africa, Nepal and other developing countries. World Sight Day: 14 th Oct, 2010 World Sight Day an annual day of awareness to focus global attention on blindness, visual impairment and rehabilitation of the visually impaired was observed at the Trust. It is also the main advocacy event for "Vision 2020: The Right to Sight", a global effort to prevent blindness created by WHO and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness. Sadguru Netra Chikitsalaya (SNC) celebrated the day by organizing a painting competition in which students of Sadguru schools participated. Capacity building skills development October 13 15, 2010 Renowned Capacity building consultant Mr.Sarvanan who has experience of rendering consultancy in over 110 hospitals all across the world conducted consultancy skills workshop for SNC team to ensure that the team is ready for delivering the consultancy to hospitals under SEVA CCO network. Low vision service assessment October 13 15, 2010 Mrs. Lavanya Sarvanan, Low Vision expert conducted low vision services assessment of SNC vision centers and based on assessment findings organized refresher skills programs to improve identification and management of cases at Vision centers and referrals at Low Vision Resource Centre at SNC.

Dr. Aravind Srinivasan, Administrator Mentoring visit: 20 th Oct, 2010 Dr. Aravind, Administrator, Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai visited SNC on 20 th Oct, His visit was mainly aimed at Mentoring SNC team towards developing a Vision for the year He shared expertise on quality assurance and efficient human resource management systems. On the occasion a CME was organized on Iris fixated IOL implantation, all senior and Junior Ophthalmologists were benefited from the Program. 34 th Annual MPSOS conference: 22 nd Oct 24 th Oct, Ophthalmic Surgeons of Sadguru Netra Chikitsalaya actively participated in 34th Annual MPSOS conference, held at Gwalior between 22ndOct 24thOct, They presented 15 posters, 15 papers and 4 videos largest in number by any participating institution. 4 Research Methodology workshop: 25 th Oct, 2010 A research workshop was organized from 25 th Oct, 2010 at Sadguru Netra Chikitsalaya. Dr. Anjaneya Agashe, Associate professor, MGM Medical College, Mumbai and Dr. Sunil Morekar a renowned Occuloplasty Consultant & research expert from Mumbai trained the participants on various aspects of research. All DNB fellows and Ophthalmologists of Sadguru Netra Chikitsalaya benefited from the program. PMOA workshop 25 th Oct 30 th Oct, st batch of Paramedical Ophthalmic Assistants (PMOAs) underwent 6 days refresher training program during October month. Total 17 participants from Punjab and Jharkhand participated in training programs. The main purpose of the training programs is to orient the Government Para medical ophthalmic assistants on skills pertaining to primary eye care delivery and expose them to recent advances in ophthalmology at primary, secondary and tertiary care level. AIOS Conference, Chennai: 29 th Dec, 2010 With the aim of encouraging academics and standardization of knowledge and skills in Ophthalmic sciences and its specialized branches, All India Ophthalmological Society has launched certification of super specialty in Ophthalmology, FAICO (Fellow All India Collegium of Ophthalmology). AIOS had appointed Trustee and Director, Shri Sadguru Seva Sangh Trust, Dr. B.K.Jain as an examiner on 29 th Dec, 2010 at the evaluation for the FAICO (Comprehensive Ophthalmology) held at Chennai. This has been a great pride for the trust as this selection is done from the number of expert Ophthalmic Surgeons across the country. CME on Phacoemulsification Technique: 2 nd Nov 6 th Nov, 2010 Dr. Jugal Shah gave hands on training and Didactic lectures on Phacoemulsification to the DNB students and Ophthalmologists of Sadguru Netra Chikitsalaya Inauguration of Extension of SNC Operation Theatre 3 rd Nov, 2010 Dr. Sushil Tripathi, Medical Superintendent, Sadguru Netra Chikitsalaya inaugurated the extension of SNC Operation Theatre on 3 rd Nov, 2010 in the presence of Dr.R.H.Maniar, Director and Trustee, Dr. B.K.Jain and all OT staff. This extension of OT was been carried out to improve the services for Private and Sub specialty patients.

5 Inauguration of 86 th Tara Netra Daan Yagya 10 th Nov, 2010 Tara Netra Yagnya is a base hospital surgical eye camp started by the founder Gurudev during early 1950 s and since then it has been celebrated as yearly event by Shri Sadguru Seva Sangh Trust. Managing Trustee, Shri Sadguru Seva Sangh Trust, Shri Vishad P Mafatlal inaugurated the Tara Netra Dan Yagna at Chitrakoot. A target of 100,000 eye operations was set for forthcoming financial year. Foundation Day of Sadguru Vision Center : Foundation day of each vision center is celebrated every year to ensure community participation in the program and as well to review program from community perspective. 8 Family Planning (Laproscopic tubectomy) Camp: 21 st Oct and 18 th Nov, 2010 Laparoscopic tubectomy surgery in India is considered as the safest method for permanent pregnancy control. Jankikund Chikitsalaya has organized three LTT camps on 21st Oct, 18th Nov and 11th Dec, Dr. R.S. Dandotiya, CMO and General Surgeon, Satna and Dr. Devendra Singh, General Surgeon, Govt. Hospital, Satna performed the procedures. Total 62 patients were benefited from the camp. Charity Hypospadias camp: 20th Nov 21st Nov, 2010 Hypospadias is a birth defect found in boys in associated urinary tract opening. Jankikund Chikitsalaya has organized two days surgical camp to facilitate the affected community. A volunteer Surgeon Dr. Mukul Garg, Asopa Hospital, Agra, U.P performed surgeries during camp. Total 12 patients got benefited from the intervention. Free Dental Camp: 10 th Nov 10 th Dec, 2010 Shri Sadguru Seva Sangh Trust has organized Charity Dental Camp. The camp was inaugurated by Managing Trustee Shri Vishad Bhai in the presence of Executive trustee, Shri Ram Bhai Gokani, Director and Trustee, Dr. B.K.Jain and staff of Jankikund Chikitsalaya. Dr. Jaisukh Makwana, a renowned dentist of Rajkot, Gujarat and Professor in Ayurveda University treated the patients for extraction with Jalandhar Bandh Yoga. He demonstrated that this procedure is painless and bloodless, even diabetic; High Blood Pressure patients can easily be treated through this procedure without any risk. Free piles camp: 29 th Dec 30 th Dec, 2010 Piles or haemorrhoids are one of the most common ailments today. It is a varicose and often inflamed condition of the veins, inside or just outside the rectum. In external piles, there is a lot of pain but not much bleeding. In the case of internal piles, there is discharge of dark blood. In some cases the veins burst and this results in what is known as bleeding piles. Jankikund Chikitsalaya organized free piles camp on 29th and 30th Dec, patients were benefited through ring method done by Dr. K. Chitania

9 World AIDS Day celebration: 1st Dec, 2010 World AIDS Day, observed on December 1 each year, is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection. The RED RIBBON is an international symbol of AIDS awareness was worn by the clinical staff of Jankikund Chikitsalaya to demonstrate care and concern about HIV and AIDS, and to remind others of the need for their support and commitment. On the occasion a CME and Awareness program was organized by the Clinicians and the nursing students to generate awareness amongst the community. Inauguration of Laparoscopy machine: 9 th Dec, 2010 Laparoscopic surgery, also called minimally invasive surgery (MIS), bandaid surgery, keyhole surgery is a modern surgical technique in which operations in the abdomen are performed through small incisions (usually cm) as compared to the larger incisions needed in laparotomy. Keyhole surgery uses images displayed on TV monitors for magnification of the surgical elements. Laparoscopic surgery includes operations within the abdominal or pelvic cavities, whereas keyhole surgery performed on the thoracic or chest cavity is called thoracoscopic surgery. Laparoscopic and thoracoscopic surgery belong to the broader field of endoscopy. The potentials of these systems enhance the possibilities of the mobile medical care with those lightweight assistance systems. These assistance systems meet the demands of true solo surgery assistance systems and are robust, versatile, and easy to use. Jankikund Chikitsalaya has inaugurated the 2 nd Laproscopic machine on 9 th Dec, 2010 as the Laproscopic surgery has been done for last ten years in Jankikund Chikitsalaya to facilitate the rural community with the latest surgical interventions. 57th All India Cooperative week: 14th November to 20th November, 2010 Sadguru Mahila Samiti celebrated cooperative week between 14 th 20 th November, The invitee of the programme was Mr. Rajesh Pandey, Coordinator, All India Cooperative Society, Dist. Satna, M.P. The programme focused on Capacity Building of the workers and to improve the quality of the products prepared by the Mahila Samiti. The programme was chaired by President, Sadguru Mahila Samiti, Smt. Suman Dwivedi and participants of the programme were all the members of Mahila Samiti. Mr. Rajesh Pandey during his speech admired the quality work of Samiti and floated the idea of training centre to get trained for quality house hold products preparation.

10 Gopashtmi Celebration: 14 th November, 2010 Gopastami puja or Gopashtami vrat is observed on eighth day in bright half of Kartik month (Kartik Shukla Astami). Pradakshina around the cow (circumambulation) is most beneficial ritual of Gopastami festival. Trust celebrated Gopastami 2010 on 14 th November; on the occasion Hon ble Executive trustee Shri RamBhai Gokani, Hon ble Director and Trustee, Dr. B.K. Jain, Mr. Dilip Gandhi, Gurubhai from Mumbai,President Shri Sadguru Shiksha Samiti, Smt. Usha Jain and Gurubhais from all over India celebrated the festival. Diwali and Annakoot Mahotsav celebration at Raghuveer Mandir 5 th Nov, 2010 Under the aegis of Shri Sadguru Seva Sangh Trust, Raghuveer Mandir Trust celebrated Diwali on 5 th November, On this day many varieties of food items were offered to Lord Krishna for prosperity of life, this day is also called "ANNAKOOT" meaning heap of food items. Shri Raghuveer Mandir Trust offered around 508 types of food times to Lord Krishna with various mantras and hymns. Later the food was distributed as prasadam (Food item filled with divine positive energy by the glance of GOD) among devotees and Sadhus in the form of Bhandara. The celebrations were shared by Gurubhais and Sadguru Parivar on the occasion with lot of joy and happiness.

11 Tulsi Vivah The Ritual: 17 th Nov, 2010 The symbolic wedding ritual of Tulsi vivah is performed in the evening. Devotees fast till the dusk and take up devotional activities as soon as the sun is down. Tulsi plant is decorated with flowers and all other paraphernalia of a bride. Amongst vedic mantras the sacred marriage is performed at auspicious time. Delicacies cooked are offered to Tulsi devi and prasad is distributed among the devotees. Shri Raghuveer Mandir Trust celebrated the Tulsi Vivah with Bhagwan Shaligram. Devotees of Gurudev from all over India & abroad and Sadguru Parivar joined celebration of Tulsi Vivah. Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti: 2nd October, 2010 The birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, popularly known as the Father of the Nation, is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti with reverence all over the country. Gandhiji was a preacher of truth (Satyagraha) and 'ahimsa' (non violence). He proved to the world that freedom can be achieved through the path of non violence a true symbol of peace and truth! Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated with homage at Vidyadham School campus On the occasion students and teachers express their thoughts on the life of Mahatma Gandhi, an essay writing competition was organized between the students of Vidyadham School.

12 Vishwa Ahimsa Diwas: 9 th October, 2010 Bhartiya Seva Sansthan, Karwi, Chitrakoot District, Uttar Pradesh organized various competition including Debate, Drawing, Essay writing and General Knowledge in which 50 schools participated at different institutions of Karwi region on the occasion of Vishwa Ahimsa Diwas, Sadguru Hr.secondary school was one of them among the participators. The purpose of the event was to build leadership quality among rural students. Mohini singh and Jigaya Singh of class XIth, Sadguru Hr.secondary School achieved first position in Debate Competition and special prize in Drawing Competition respectively. Inauguration of Ram Krishna Sadan (Extension of Sadguru Public School): 3 rd Nov, 2010 Shri Sadguru Shiksha Samiti has been extending its dedication towards providing best education to the community since its inception. An Inauguration of extension of Sadguru Public School under Shri Sadguru Shiksha Samiti was held on 3 rd Nov, 2010 by the hands of Maluk Peethadeeshwar, Shri Rajendra Das ji Maharaj and donator of the building Shri Rashmi Bhai and his wife Mrs. Rekha Jiyani, under the kind presence of members of Sadguru Parivar. 13 Scout Camp: 27 th Nov 29 th Nov, 2010 Sadguru Public School has organized three day Scout camp for the students with the aim of supporting young people in physical, mental and spiritual development for constructive roles in society The camp was inaugurated by Executive Trustee, Shri Ram Bhai Gokani. During camp 71 students of different classes participated actively in the event. They learned different scout skills viz. preparing tent, cooking food, parade, Camp fire and Camp decoration and even they provided volunteer services to the patients at the Eye Hospital. An Innovational visit to Nanhi Duniya : 23rd Dec, 2010 Little masters of Sadguru Play School had an Innovational visit to Nanhi Duniya (an exciting artificial planet), Chitrakoot on 23 rd Dec with their teachers. The purpose of this tour was to make students aware about the types of Wild animals and their physical features. Christmas day celebration: 24 th Dec, 2010 Sadguru Play School celebrated CHRISTMAS with joy and happiness. Smt. Usha Jain, President Shri Sadguru seva Shaiksha Samiti, Mr. N.K.Dwivedi, principal Sadguru Public School distributed Chocolates and toffees to the Kids. On the occasion staff of SPS and Parents gave their blessings to the Kids.

14 Jagatguru Shankaracharya visit to SSSST: 18 th Nov, 2010 Govardhan Peethadeswar Jagatguru Shankaracharya Adhokshanand Saraswati ji Maharaj visited Shri Sadguru Seva Sangh Trust on 18 th Nav, Jagatguru on his visit had an overlook of the health services provided by the trust. Durga Utsav 2010: 08 th Oct 18 th Oct Shri Sadguru Seva Sangh Trust traditionally celebrated 12th Durga utsav from 08th Oct 18th Oct Trust has organized Raas Dandiya Competition on the occasion in which 11 teams participated with joy and happiness. Eleven teams participated in which Gurukripa, Ambey and Chalia won First, Second and third prize respectively.

15 Sadguru Mahotsav: 14 th 16 th November, 2010 Sadguru Mahotsav is an annual event where Sadguru Educational & Training Institutions get chance to show their talent and athletic skills. Sadguru Mahotsav was inaugurated by Superintendent of police, Chitrakoot, Mr. Tehsildar Singh and Executive Trustee Hon ble Shri Ram Bhai Gokani on 14 th November in the presence of Nagar Panchayat President Mr. Nilanshu Chaturvedi and other distinguished citizens of Chitrakoot. On the occasion an Inter school athletic events were organized on 15 th and 16 th November in which 12 schools of the region participated. Sadguru Mahotsav came to an end in the kind presence of MLA Chitrakoot Shri Surendra Singh Gaharwar, Sant Shiromkar Das Ji, Executive Trustee Shri Ram Bhai Gokani, Director and Trustee, Dr. B.K.Jain, President Sadguru Shiksha Samiti, Mrs. Usha Jain and Sadguru Parivar. Maruti Trust team visit Shri Bachhu bhai kotecha & trustees from Maruti Trust, Leicester, U.K, visited the trust campus to observe the activities implemented by SNC through the support of the Trust. The visiting team also visited an outreach camp supportd by them. in strengthening eye care services in the region for poor & needy people.

16 Activities of SSSST, Anandpur during October-December, 2010 Spectacle Distribution at Rajgarh: On the occasion of World Sight Day (14 Oct 2010) free spectacles were distributed the children identified with Refractive Errors. The main function was organized at Auditorium, Zila Panchayat Rajgarh. The chief guest for the function was Hon. Collector Rajgarh Mr. Lokesh Kumar Jatav. Mr. D. S. Randha, CEO Zila Panchayat Rajgarh; Mr. Vivek Raghuwanshi, Deputy Collector Rajgarh; Mr. R. K. Meena, DEO Rajgarh; Mr. G. K. Upadhyay, Trustee, Shri Sadguru Seva Sangh Trust were also present at the occasion. Certificate of Appraisal: MPSOS Conference: As an appreciation to the trust s efforts towards combating blindness, Mr. D. S. Randha, CEO Zila Panchayat Rajgarh awarded a certificate to the trust for the excellent work carried out in the district. Dr. Saras Jain and Mr. Ravi Upadhyay participated in the Madhya Pradesh State Ophthalmic Societies Conference held at Gwalior from Oct Dr. Saras Jain delivered a lecture on Challenges in Community Outreach Programs on behalf of the trust. Training Programme for DPIP Volunteers: A workshop on basic eye care was organized on 13 Nov 2010 for the DPIP volunteers. 25 volunteers along with the DPM from district Vidisha participated in the workshop. Mr. Milind Rawal, Program Manager delivered a presentation highlighting the activities and performance of the trust. Mr. Naushad Alam, Senior Optometrist delivered a lecture on common eye diseases and possible interventions.

17 Health Workers Training at Lateri: A training programme to orient health care workers on commonest eye diseases and visual acuity measurement was organized on 6th Dec 2010 at CHC Lateri. The chief guest for the inaugural function was Dr. Baghel, BMO Lateri. Power Point Presentations were deliverd by Mr. Milind Rawal and Mr. Naushad Alam on services available at the trust and Commonest Eye Diseases respectively. The training was attended by 58 Health Workers. Training of DPIP Volunteers: A training programme on basic eye care for DPIP Volunteers was organized at Hotel Samrat, Guna on 7th Dec The chief guest for the function was Mr. Manoj Bharatdwaj, DPM, DPIP Guna. Lectures highlighting trust s activities and basic eye care were delivered during the session. 48 DPIP volunteers participated in the programme. Sponsor s Meet: Sponsor s Meet was organized at SSNC on 10th 11th Dec The meet was inaugurated by Dr. Vishnu Jobanputra, Medical Director and Trustee. In all 34 camp sponsors attended the meet and were honored with certificate by Dr. Vishnu Jobanputra. Health Workers Training at Aron: A one day training programme for health workers was organized at CHC Aron on 15th Dec The chief guest for the programme was Dr. K. K. Shrivastava, BMO, Aron. In all 54 health workers attended the programme.

18 Health Workers Training at Sironj: Another training programme for health workers was organized on 27th Dec 2010 at CHC Sironj. The training was chaired by BMO Sironj Dr. M. K. Tiwari. In all 40 health workers participated in the programme and were provide with a brief orientation about the trust s activities and basic eye care. Eye Camp by Sadguru Parivar Rajkot: Free Eye Camps will be organized from 13th Dec st Jan 2011 by Sadguru Parivar Rajkot. Shri Danabhai and Shri Mahendrabhai Datani performed a Puja on 13th Dec 2010 at Shujalpur to mark the beginning of the camp. Inauguration of New Ward: A new 100 bedded ward to accommodate camp patients was inaugurated by Param Pujya Shri Haricharan Dasji Maharaj on 22nd Dec A Puja was performed at the occasion. Shri Danabhai; Shri Mahendrabhai Datani; Dr. Vishnubhai Jobanputra; Smt. Bhartiben Jobanputra; Shri Govardhan Upadhyay were present at the function along with other gurubhais and staff. COSI Symposium at Venu Eye Institute and Research Centre: Three candidates namely Dr. Saras Jain, Mr. Milind Rawal and Mr. Ramu Kushwaha attended the annual COSI Symposium organized on 26th 27th Nov 2010 at Venu Eye Institute and Research Centre, New Delhi. The team not only attended the meet but also studied the systems and protocols followed at VEIRC.

19 General Surgery Camp: A general surgery camp was organized from 10th 15th Dec 2010 at Shri Sadguru Sankalp Chikitsalaya. Dr. Vanketesh B. Agrawal provided his services for the camp. During the camp 20 Hernia; 07 Hydrocele; 06 Lypoma and 18 other surgeries were performed. Dr. S. S. Tripathi, Dr. Surendra Upadhyay, Dr. Mukesh Chouhan assisted during the camp. Smt. Susheelaben Arvindbhai Mafatlal H. Sec. School: Yoga Camp A Yoga Camp was organized at the trust from 2 4 Oct Mr. Girishbhai and Mr. Krishna Yogendra Raghuwanshi from Guna provided practical tips to the school children and the staff. In all 110 Children and 20 staff attended the shivir and got benefited from the Shivir. Gurudev Janam Utsav (10 Nov 2010): Guru Janam utsav was celebrated on 10 Nov 2010 at the trust. The main function was organized at Gurumani, Shri Ramdas Hanuman Mandir. After Guru Pujan by Dr. Vishnu Jobanputra and Smt. Bhartiben Jobanputra a Bhandara was organized on the occasion which was attended by trust staff and nearby villagers.

20 Relief Work at Ganjbasoda: Twenty Five tribal families from village Silarpur, Ganjbasoda whose huts were burned to ashes in a communal riots on 15th Sep 2010 were provided with food grains; flour; utensils; blankets; clothes etc. on 4th Nov Shri Govardhan Upadhyay and Su. ILaben Jobanputra actively participated in the programme. Visit of Shri Laxman Singh (13 Nov 2010): Former BJP MLA Mr. Laxman Singh visited the trust on 13 Nov During his short visit Mr. Laxman Singh underwent eye examination along with his son at SSNC and was informed about the major activities and achievements of the trust by Dr. Vishnu Jobanputra. Visit of Param Pujya Shri Haricharan Dasji Maharaj: Param Pujya Shri Haricharan Dasji Maharaj visited the trust on 22nd Dec Maharaj Ji blessed every body and praised the efforts of all gurubhais and staff in developing the trust.

22 Our tributes to Late Smt. Sushila Ben Mafatlal Shri Sadguru Seva Sangh Trust condoles passing away of Late Smt. Sushila Ben, w/o Chairman, Shri Sadguru Seva Sangh Trust, Shri Aravind Bhai Mafatlal on 20 th Nov, Smt. Sushila Ben was closely associated with developmental activities at the trust. She was always concerned about the welfare of the people in rural areas. In her passing away the trust has lost a personality who was always in touch with the grassroots of society. Achieving Moksha, freedom from the cycle of birth and death, is the ultimate goal of religious life. Achieving Moksha requires committing ones ashes to the holy river Ganga, accomplished through the Asthi Visarjan Ceremony. The Asthi Visarjan of Late Smt. Sushila Ben w/o Hon ble Chairman, Shri Aravind N.Mafatlal Shri Sadguru Seva Sangh Trust was accomplished by her son Hon ble Shri Rishikeshbhai Mafatlal on 26th November, 2010 at Jankighat, Raghuveer Mandir Hindu mourning begins immediately after the cremation of the body and ends on the morning of the thirteenth day. On the morning of the thirteenth day, a Shraadh ceremony is performed. The main ceremony involves a fire sacrifice, in which offerings are given to the ancestors and to gods, to ensure the deceased has a peaceful afterlife. The Ceremony was organized by Shri Sadguru Seva Sangh Trust following poojan according to the Hindu tradition accomplished with a huge Bhandara on the occasion in which whole Sadhu Samaj, Distinguished citizens of Chitrakoot and Sadguru Parivar were invited on 3rd December, 2010.
