New Usage and Membership information

The RMC regularly serves many churches in the Greater Northwest Episcopal Area and the Desert Southwest Conference of The United Methodist Church by providing a media lending library and video production services. While we are a ministry that primarily serves United Methodist Churches, we also are ecumenical with members across the denominational spectrum. Likewise, we provide media resources that cross the religious spectrum. Our material can be used in many ways from curricula for use in one-room Sunday School classes, to small group resources, Bible study material, documentaries, leadership development, discipleship, worship, and Christian education resources for children, youth, young adults, and adults. Resources from the Regional Media Center can be ordered online, over the phone, by , or in person. Resources available include: DVDs, VHS Tapes, Resource Kits, Books, and Equipment. Most materials can be shipped directly to your church and are sent with return postage included. All you have to do when you re done is pop it in the mail! With more than 2,500 titles, there is something for everyone! 2 Regional Media Center

CVLI Discounted Licenses! The RMC can now, again, offer discounted CVLI Licenses. CCLI Licenses! NOW CONFERENCE COVERED! For the first time, the PNW Conference will be subsidizing our churches by providing CCLI Licenses to ALL PNW CHURCHES! Equipment Rentals! The Regional Media Center has begun to enter the world of Equipment Rentals. We have Projectors, Cameras, Sound Equipment, and more! Resources for Ministry! 3

Licensing(Copyright) Copyright in Churches Does your church make copies of lead sheets for your band? You need a CCLI License. Do you show videos in worship? You probably need a CVLI License. Do you stream or podcast your services? You probably need a broadcast or streaming license. Here at the Regional Media Center, we understand these things, can help you understand them, AND we can get you discounted prices on many of them. CCLI Christian Copyright Licensing International The term copyright can be taken at face value; it simply means the right to copy. CCLI has done all the hard work of negotiating agreements with songwriters and publishers from around the world allowing you to make copies of any of the 300,000 songs in their database. But you need to purchase a license to be covered by CCLI. Why you need this: Print & copy music Put words/lyrics on screens Change the key of a song Translate songs Record services for local distribution CVLI Christian Video Licensing International The CVLI License provides safety in showing video clips and movies in worship and other religious activities. CVLI, much like CCLI, has done all the hard work in negotiating with producers to allow you to show their movies or portions of their movies. Many churches in the PNW Greater Episcopal area already taking advantage of the discount on this license the RMC can provide. Why you need this: Show movies in church Show clips during sermons Host a movie night! CCS Christian Copyright Solutions CCS is a company much like CCLI. The big difference is that a basic CCLI license covers photocopying of music, whereas a CCS PERFORMmusic license covers the live performance of that music to a public audience. The Regional Media Center is currently negotiating with CCS to provide a discounted price to members of the RMC. For information on Streaming and Podcasting, contact the RMC. Why you need this: Play recorded music before/after services Perform music live at church events (not services) Play recorded music at church events 4 Regional Media Center

Group Licenses Why License Through the RMC? Benefits of Group Licensing When the Regional Media Center negotiates with licensing companies, YOU win. We are able to get discounts that you would not normally be able to receive simply because we are buying licenses in bulk. Additionally, when your license expires, we will automatically bill you for that to ensure that you are always covered under those licenses, even when life gets busy. Let us do the hard work for you. CCLI Licenses now provided to ALL PNW Conference Churches The Regional Media Center has negotiated a partnership with the PNW Annual Conference Treasurer s office to ensure that all churches within our conference are covered under a CCLI license. As part of the Conference Risk mitigation efforts, these licenses will reduce the exposure to music copyright infringement through our Fire & Liability Insurance program. Instead, all payments to CCLI will be handled directly by the Treasurer s office on your behalf in order to gain a significant discount through a group license. If you already have a CCLI license, you will retain the same license number. If you do not currently have a CCLI License, a license number will be assigned to you. If you currently pay for any additional CCLI services, (such as SongSelect, Rehearse, or Stream) you will need to continue paying the additional amount required for such services. Please contact the Regional Media Center for more information and to request your CCLI Basic License number. Unfortunately, this offer does not yet apply to Non-PNW churches, however, the Regional Media Center is at work trying to negotiate similar deals for the Alaska Conference, the Oregon-Idaho Conference, and the Desert Southwest Conference. We will keep you updated! Cost Comparison For a church with 100 Average attendance, Annual Cost: License Type Individual Cost Cost in Group CCLI Basic $196 $145 CVLI Basic $225 $90 TOTAL $421 $235 TOTAL SAVINGS: $186! HUGE SAVINGS on CVLI Licenses The RMC CVLI Group License rate is lower than any other in the nation. The discount that you can receive through us was grandfathered into our account. For the last two years, CVLI has restricted us from adding any new churches to this Group License, but this year, they changed their policy. We are now able to add new churches to our license at this outrageously low price. Jump on this opportunity to save before they change their minds again! Churches must be Regional Media Center members to take advantage of this offer. Resources for Ministry! 5

Equipment for your ministry! Projectors The Regional Media Center has many different projectors for your various needs in your ministry ranging from small projectors suited for small classrooms to larger models suited for Conference events and large venues. Prices for projectors vary, but our loan prices cannot be beat. Cameras From point and shoot still photography cameras to high end video cameras, we have a little bit of everything. We are working on expanding our selection so that we may better serve the needs of equipment rentals in the future, but be assured, you will not find prices lower than ours. Listening Assistive Systems For those churches that would like to purchase a Listening Assist System, this is a good opportunity for you to try it out before you buy it for a fraction of the cost you d spend at any rental house. Great for one-time events or just to try it out for your older adults in your congregations, these systems bring the sound to your ear, allowing for personal adjustment of volume. Lighting The Regional Media Center is actively pursuing purchasing new lighting equipment for clients to check out. Keep your eyes peeled for new and exciting resources to check out from the RMC. Sound Need a microphone? How about a speaker? We have both and everything in between! Much like the rest of our equipment at the RMC, we currently have limited stock. We are working to amend that, however, we do have enough equipment for any church to improve their system for a day or two if they so desire at highly affordable costs! For information on all of this and more, contact the Regional Media Center! Resources for Ministry! 11

A Word From Some of Our Regular Users Marysville United Methodist Church The Marysville United Methodist Church pays an annual membership fee to use the PNW Regional Media Center. For the Adult Education groups we rent our Bible study materials (the class leaders order their participant books from Cokesbury). The RMC sends us a text, leader s guide and DVD. Their red pouch always arrives on time for the leader to prepare the study. At times two small groups have been able to share a DVD and leader s guide. The $7 rental is reasonable and is more economical than buying study materials which will eventually overload our library Puyallup United Methodist Church Mary Stiles The RMC is a complete lending library with a rich variety of choices. -Mary Stiles shelves and become outdated. The RMC is a complete lending library with a rich variety of choices. Order at their site online, by , or by phone. When you complete the study, everything goes back into the red pouch with its pre-paid mailer (sent by the RMC). It is that easy! Try it, become a continuing customer, and blessings will abound. Keith Jenkins Not only has the use of these materials been instructive, the discussion has developed a real bond among our members. -Keith Jenkins We have extensively used videos from RMC as a basis for discussion for our progressive Christian discussion group. We have especially found the Living the Question series stimulating and leading to a more in depth faith and theology. We are looking forward to viewing The Jesus Fatwah after Easter. Some of the new additions to the library (like Mudhouse Sabbath, A Land Twice Promised, Re- newal) are on are to-be-viewed list. We are appreciative of these new additions as they sound promising in our continued faith search. Not only has the use of these materials been instructive, the discussion has developed a real bond among our members. Sunday class us something we look forward to. Please continue to include this type of resource in future purchases. Christ United Methodist Church (Portland, Ore.) Kathryn Moseler The RMC has been a mainstay for our Adult Sunday class because we ve not had a lay person to lead a Bible study for several years. We didn t want this class to end believing we offered another choice of adult study. We have enjoyed DVDs for Advent & Lent, on Prayer, Religions of the World, Bill Moyers On Faith and Reason, and several of Rob Bell s Nooma series, and teachings of Adam Hamilton and John Ortberg. Most have a Leader s Guide. The process of ordering is convenient and easy; we call or the request and in a couple days the DVD arrives by mail, with return postage included. We have also previewed many to determine how useful the series is and returned any unsuitable at the time. We have saved over $2000 since 2010 by using this lending library, rather than buying a video or DVD series. 12 Regional Media Center

Simpson United Methodist Church As a pastor who enjoys teaching but does not always have the time to do the research for resources, the Media Center is great. The Media Center provides a library of DVDs and such, as well as a resource person to help navigate all the options. They have researched the sources and provide great insight about the resources. To buy a new DVD series every month or two could cost Shane Moore over $250 a year. Once you are a member of the resource center, to check out those same DVDs could cost less than $50. The resource center provides churches with limited financial resources the ability to use amazing curriculum to help the people in their congregation grow as disciples of Christ that help to transform the world. Mill Creek: Cedar Cross United Methodist Church Jim Clarke I have used the Regional Media Center for years. Currently, we have a class that meets on Wednesday mornings and we are watching a series called Faces on Faith. When I told the class that it was in a VHS format, they looked skeptical. Our system is set up for DVD and we had to find a VCR. However, since we got started, these videos have been a wonderful source for discussion. They are interviews of theologians, pastors, and spiritual leaders who are asked very personal questions about their faith: What is your image of God? Who is Jesus for you? What do you think about death and afterlife? These videos may be old, but the questions are very current. I encourage everyone to take a look at the Regional Media Center, a blessing in our own backyard....these videos have been a wonderful source for discussion. -Jim Clarke Stevenson United Methodist Church Rick Jessel Ph.D. We also appreciate the staff s quick and helpful responsiveness to our requests... -Rick Jessel, Ph.D The Regional Media Center has been extremely helpful and responsive to the Stevenson United Methodist Adult Sunday School. We have enjoyed the latest thinking from world class theological scholars and thinkers in DVD s such as Paint the Stars and the Rob Bell series. Our discussions have been stimulated by Marcus Borg s and John Dominic Crossan s thinking. Our faith has deepened and evolved over time as we studied these and other theologians such as D. L. Dykes. Jesus lessons in the Bible have had more meaning as we understood the context in which he lived and taught. We certainly could not have as rich and expansive connection with our faith with the resources of the Media Center. We also appreciate the staff s quick and helpful responsiveness to our requests which make the functioning of our Sunday school possible. Resources for Ministry! 13

Membership Application and Renewal To renew your membership, simply return the enclosed Application form with your check made payable to Conference Treasurer. Membership in the Regional Media Center is beneficial for all churches, especially those who plan to purchase CCLI, CVLI, and/or CCS Licenses. We buy resources for you to use so that you don t have to, but we can t purchase resources without your financial support! If your church was not a member in 2014, you can always join us now for If your church has never been a member, maybe this Epiphany season is just the time to start a new tradition and join the Regional Media Center for a year s worth of media ministry in 2015! Please consider donating to the Regional Media Center, we exist because of your financial assistance. 14 Regional Media Center

It cannot be that the people should grow in grace unless they give themselves to reading. A reading people will always be a knowing people. John Wesley s Letter to George Holder (November, 1790) Taken into the context of present day, perhaps John Wesley might have included other media in his letter. If there is one goal we have here at the Regional Media Center, it should reflect the mission of the church, to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. How do we achieve that here? We empower our churches through knowledge, giving them the tools they need to better understand their own faith and to better understand the world. In the past few months, I have gotten to know many of you well, and I look forward to getting to know you all better in the months that remain in my interim, but for those of you who have yet to meet me, let me start by introducing myself. I m Ian Patrick McKnight. I grew up in Gig Harbor and began attending Gig Harbor United Methodist Church in the Summer of It didn t take long for me to realize that I belonged there and that I was finally in a community with a pastor, Rev. Jim Head Corliss, that taught inclusivity and love, something that I had looked for in a church for a long time. After High School, I went on to begin a Bachelor s degree in Theatre Arts at Western Washington University, where I attended College Fellowship at Garden Street United Methodist Church. My involvement there nurtured a love for mission work and ministry. While still in school, I had the opportunity to work for Skagit Opera, the WWU Opera Studio, and Seattle Children s Theatre. I worked as a draftsman for a while, with work ap- Welcome Ian McKnight, RMC Interim Manager Contact Ian! I graduated from WWU with a BA in Theatre Arts, concentrating in Lighting Design, Stage Management, Educational Theatre, and Theatre Management, and a minor in Accounting. Immediately following college, I joined IATSE (The International Alliance for Theatre Stage Employees). I moved back to Gig Harbor, where I had intended to begin working in professional theaters and assisting in technical theatre in high schools in the Northwest God had different plans. By the time I got back to Gig Harbor, a need at GHUMC for an AV Coordinator had arisen. God had carved a place in ministry for me at exactly the right time; I accepted the position and began shaping a new vision for technological ministry at GHUMC. Then, one day, while at GHUMC, our district superintendent, Rev. Cara Scriven, and her husband, Patrick Scriven, came to worship. God, again, had some new plans. A need for an Interim Manager of the Regional Media Center had come up presenting a new challenge in ministry for me to take up. As we move into new ideas and practices here at the RMC, I thank you all for your continued patience. I hope you are all as excited for new adventures, new faces, and new friends as I am. I hope you re all revved up to make some new disciples of Jesus Christ. And, as always, thank you for your continued patronage of the Regional Media Center. Resources for Ministry! 15

The Regional Media Center would like to thank each and every one of you for your continued patronage of the Regional Media Center. For those who have been members and who are renewing membership in 2015, we are particularly grateful for your support through the years. THANK YOU.
