1 BIG PICTURE: DISCOVERY BIG IDEA: THE GREAT RESCUE BIG POINT: God sent His one and only Son for us BIG WORD: This is how we know what real love is: Jesus gave his life for us. So we should give our lives for our brothers and sisters. 1 John 3:16 (NCV) LEARNING OUTCOMES At the conclusion of this lesson children will: Understand that we have all sinned and deserve the judgment of God. Jesus Christ, as the sinless son of God was sent to save us from sin through His death and resurrection. This study also provides opportunity for children to receive Jesus as their Saviour KIDS DISCIPLESHIP GROUP (KDG) DOCUMENT PURPOSE Use this KDG outline to prepare an impacting small group time for you and your children. CONNECT TIME Imagine you were all superheroes and had a strange superpower what strange superpower would you choose to have? THE BIG QUESTION (To discuss in your KDG s) 1. Why is Jesus the only one who can save us from sin? Jesus is the only one who can save us because He was sinless. 2 Corinthians 5:21 He who had no sin, became sin for us. Jesus died and rose again to have power over sin and death. 2. How do we receive God s salvation in our lives? Read John 3:16-18 and Ephesians 2:8,9 All we need to do to receive salvation is nothing more than believe who Jesus is and what Jesus did for us on the cross. This is faith - believing and trusting in what God has said and done for us. 3. When we receive salvation, what happens in our lives? We are forgiven and we are free from guilt and the power of sin. We receive the gift of eternal life. We may not feel an instant change to our lives, or feel anything physically change

2 about us, but there is no doubt about it. A change has been made. We have reset our course to follow Jesus and His purpose for our life. ACTIVITY SHEETS Children complete the Activity Sheets in this time. THE BIG ACTIVITY Purpose: To have fun :) Supplies Needed: Scissors, Paper clips, small strips of card paper 3cm (1 1/4 inch) wide, 7cm (3.5 inches) long, A safe place for the children to launch their helicopters from such as a balcony, stairwell or stage. Directions: Measure and cut strips of card paper and make two horizontal slits at two-thirds of the length as shown the picture. For younger children you may like to do this step for them or draw lines on the card paper strips so they know where to cut. Next hold a corner in each hand and twist bringing the two slits together and securing them with a paperclip. Take the children to a safe place to launch their helicopters from, such as a balcony, stairwell or stage. Make sure the children are well supervised and not at risk of any harm. Explanation: We ve had lots of fun making and launching our helicopters. When we are set free from sin by God s gift of grace through Jesus Christ, we can live a life of freedom! Life with Jesus is not boring, it s an adventure. John 10:10 (NIV) Jesus said The thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and life to the full. That means we are free to love God and enjoy life with Him. THE BIG WORD Supplies Needed: Big Word Page - Wrong & Missing Words from the print material disc, Paper, Markers. This is how we know what real love is: Jesus gave his life for us. So we should give our lives for our brothers and sisters. 1 John 3:16 (NCV) Show the children the Big Word Page with the wrong words added to the verse and words missing from the verse. Read the verse as written on the page. Ask the children if they think there is something wrong with the verse as shown. Have the children point out words that don t belong and to cross them out, then work out which words are missing and add them in. Have the children re-write the verse on a separate page. Repeat the verse together to check if all the wrong words have been crossed out.

3 GAME Supplies Needed: A blindfold, a glass of water, a large sheet of paper with a circle drawn on it. Don t Spill Seated a table set up the game by placing a circle on the table in front of one player. Give them a glass of water and blindfold them. This player is the pilot and must be guided by another player as the navigator to place the glass of water in the centre of the circle. They get one chance to do it without spilling the water before allowing another player the next turn. PRAYER Dear God, Thank you that you sent your son Jesus to be the greatest rescue for us, thank you that through Him we receive salvation and life forever with you. Help us to live in the power of your grace and forgiveness in our lives. In Jesus name, Amen.
