Romans 11:1-2, A reading from the 11 th chapter of the Letter of Paul to the Romans, beginning at the 1 st verse: I ask then: Did God reject his people? By no means! I am an Israelite myself, a descendant of Abraham, from the tribe of Benjamin. God did not reject his people, whom he foreknew. Don t you know what Scripture says in the passage about Elijah how he appealed to God against Israel: for God s gifts and his call are irrevocable. 3

4 Just as you who were at one time disobedient to God have now received mercy as a result of their disobedience, so they too have now become disobedient in order that they too may now receive mercy as a result of God s mercy to you. But the things that come out of a person s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. For out of the heart come evil thoughts murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. These are what defile a person; but eating with unwashed hands does not defile them. Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly. Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us. 5 The woman came and knelt before him. Lord, help me! she said. He replied, It is not right to take the children s bread and toss it to the dogs. Yes it is, Lord, she said. Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master s table. Then Jesus said to her, Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted. And her daughter was healed at that moment. The meeting is being held to inform the entire congregation of the plans for opening and consecrating of our new church facility. Some of the topics to be discussed include parking, consecration and Confirmations, expanded child and youth ministries, volunteer opportunities, schedule of events and answering of questions. The meeting should take about an hour. BIBLE STUDIES & GROUPS Skimmers The Skimmers middle school youth group, ages 10-13, will resume with a Movie Night on August 30th. Look for more details later in these announcements and by . Sunday Morning Bible Study Sunday Bible Study meets at 9:05 AM in the Garden Club. Dean Sparks facilitates a study of Paul s Letter to the Galatians that will conclude today. Bill Proctor will resume his study of the Book of Matthew on Sept. 10.
