2 Bishop s Page Preston Mathena NUGGETS FROM THE 2013 MINISTERS SUMMIT On Thursday, Feb. 21, approximately 250 ministers and their spouses gathered in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., for the annual Ministers Summit. This is an event that many look forward to from year to year because it is a time of spiritual refreshment, ministry, and inspiration. This year was no exception, as Pastor Paul Godawa of Poland shared truths from God s Word and from his own life experience. On Friday evening he held a service of impartation, and many were personally ministered to through the gifts of the Spirit. Anointed worship was led by Clayton Kipps and various gifted singers and musicians. Being a pastor himself, Pastor Paul knows the ups and downs, the challenges and joys of ministry. Following are some excerpts from the truths he shared with those attending. Pastor Paul Godawa In life there are voices that influence us. Two of those voices are our own voice and the voice of God. We come together to quiet the voice from the outside and hear His voice. We need to recognize His voice, but also to keep hearing Him, until one day His voice becomes everything in our life. Then we become a voice His voice. Philippians 3:14, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Isaiah 42:6, I the Lord have called thee Calling will produce vision. Vision will produce desire. Whatever you desire, you pursue or press toward. But vision also produces pressure. We are called by God, but we may be driven by ambition. The fight we fight inside is the hardest fight, and we must answer the question, Am I called or am I driven? The answer to that question will determine our response to suffering, to ministry challenges. If driven, we see ministry challenges as problems, not opportunities; whereas a calling will produce peace inside. When driven, we feel forced to serve. When called, we feel privileged to serve. Drivenness fills us with ego, always wanting to get, not to give. If we re called to ministry, we may want to quit, but we can t. Every ministry is birthed out of compassion. True disciples are not afraid to receive correction. But you can t help everyone. You can t help anyone who will not receive instruction. You can t help those who are seeking an answer outside the Word of God. You can t help those who do not honor you, and you cannot help those who feel that YOU are the problem. Pastors cannot take their congregation beyond where they are themselves. Birthday Surprise The Rev. Glennard Quesenberry and his wife, Dot, were surprised on Friday evening at the Summit when their two daughters, Angie Quesenberry and Faith Malloy, showed up with a birthday cake. Brother Glennard would have a birthday on February 28, and Angie and Faith, both from Nashville, saw the opportunity to surprise him and celebrate his 85th birthday a week early. The Rev. Quesenberry was superintendent of the Virginia Conference from (Pictured: Angie Quesenberry, Glennard and Dot Quesenberry. Faith Malloy and granddaughter Eden Grace are not pictured.) 4 World Missions & Evangelism Larry Meadors APPALACHIAN CONFERENCE MISSIONS AND EVANGELISM MINISTRIES NEW LIFE IN MORRISTOWN Pictured: Rev. Larry Meadors, Pastors Fabiola & Miguel Arellano, Pastor Edgar Sorto and Rev. Miguel Escobar. Iglesia Cristiana Centro de Vida organized February 24, Excitement lit every face as worshippers gathered into the storefront church. Lively worship soon filled the air, and girls danced across the front with tambourines. It was church Latino style This gathering marked a very special day. The occasion was the official organization of Iglesia Cristiana Centro de Vida as an International Pentecostal Holiness Church. The seed that was planted in April 2012 is now a planting of the Lord, growing and touching lives in Morristown, Tenn., a region of our conference with a heavily Hispanic population. Pastors Miguel and Fabiola Arellano s story as church planters began many years ago. They were raised and nurtured as church planters at Mission Cristiana Ciudad Deseada in Berryville, Va., under the leadership of Pastor Edgar Sorto, who has a tremendous vision to lead his church into being a mother church to many church plants. They sent out the Arellano family for ministry and have contributed significant finances in support. Miguel and Fabiola and their two children, Valerie and Daniela, were willing to move 400 miles away, leaving their jobs and their church home. Pastor Sorto shared with the Morristown congregation that he feels they are an extension of his church family. Conference Hispanic Director Miguel Escobar preached and ministered in a mighty way to the people. Pastor Kip Worrell of Life Christian Center IPHC hosted this church plant for the first months until a facility closer to the Hispanic community could be found. Pastor Arellano shared this: We give thanks to our Lord for His love and mercy. It is a privilege to be His servants in this journey here in Morristown, Tenn. Iglesia Cristiana Centro de Vida was born in God s heart. We declare that Morristown belongs to Christ In our short experience, we are satisfied for what God is doing in our families and in each person that we are touching. We are planting the Word of God in each soul. We are engaged in the training of disciples according to the Great Commission. God s glory and His supernatural power backs us up all of the time. We believe by faith that we will impact this city by the power of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 6:9) Pastors Miguel and Fabiola Arellano Welcome to our conference family of churches May our Hispanic churches continue to grow and be blessed NATIONAL TRAINING EVENT A Dynamic Church Planting International (DCPI) class will be taught on the campgrounds in Dublin May 2-4. Church Planting Essentials is a foundational class for all interested in church planting or church revitalization. The registration of $50 includes materials, lunch and refreshments. Church Multiplication Director Stacy Hilliard of EVUSA will be the primary instructor. To register, call Alice Crigger at ext Voice of the Appalachian Conference of the IPHC

6 Women s Ministries Kathy mathena IS GOD AT WORK IN AMERICA? It looks like corruption and immorality are on the rise today, but that shouldn t surprise us. The world is getting darker and darker, but the church is getting brighter and brighter. Let s look in the 12th chapter of Exodus. God has told Moses to bring His people out of Egypt, but Pharaoh has a hard heart and isn t about to do what God wants done in the nation. Just as Israel was God s people, we in America are God s people. There are those who shed their own blood so we could be free. This nation s founders sweated over the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Every phrase of those documents came through the Word of God. The United States is the only nation that was founded in order to worship God; not even Israel, because God was the one who chose them. But we chose God. This nation is dedicated to God to declare His glory and to advance the Christian faith. When God told Moses to go and get His people out of Egypt, I m sure they didn t realize they would have to go through a season of divine judgment. God s judgment brought signs, wonders and miracles. He uses those things Upcoming Events to show Himself as God to a sinful humanity. But this was good for the Israelites because God s judgments brought them deliverance and freedom. God s Word always precedes His work. That is why we are to be saying what the Word of God says. We are God s voice in this world today, just as Moses was then. Give voice to His utterances, and prepare the way of the Lord. One way God shows Himself to be God is by protecting His people. During all the plagues the Egyptians saw over and over again, God protected His people. God put a division and a sign of deliverance between the Egyptians and His people (Exodus 8:23). In Egypt there was darkness, but in Goshen the light was shining brighter and brighter. So we can see that God s judgments bring signs, wonders and miracles on the scene, and they separate light and darkness. The separation is taking place. Everyone is getting a chance to choose. As we pray and trust God, He will deliver this nation, just as He delivered Israel. So fear not; only believe. WM s Annual Tea Party May 4, noon The Corner Shop in Bramwell, W.Va. 7 World Intercession Network Donna Hankla GENUINE FAITH? Heaven is looking for saints with genuine faith. This faith endures the evils that confront it. This faith brings victory to those who possess it. The world is confounded by this faith So that [the genuineness] of your faith may be tested, [your faith] which is infinitely more precious than the perishable gold which is tested and purified by fire. This proving of your faith is intended to redound to your praise and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed (1 Peter 1:7, Amplified Version). FAITH THAT IS FAKE The Church in Laodicea is an example of faith that is fake This church told Jesus that they were rich, and increased with goods, and had need of nothing. Jesus told them that they were lukewarm and that He would spew them out of His mouth. He advised them to buy gold tried in the fire. They needed GENUINE FAITH. A time of suffering might be needed for this church to develop such faith FAITH DURING THE TIMES OF EVIL RULERS If you have not had to suffer evil rulers, you are fortunate. Evil rulers abound in the workplaces. They are found in the churches. Evil rulers are found in places of government. But they are no match for those who possess GENUINE FAITH Consider those who rose to promotion during evil leadership *Joseph became the second ruler in the land after enduring false slander. *Daniel became the first president over 120 princes. He endured jealousy. Instead of doing their jobs, the wicked leaders spent most of their time trying to find ways to get rid of Daniel. God s angel brought Daniel out of that lions den created by wicked plans *Queen Esther saved her people from an evil plan THE GLORY IS COMING There is GOOD NEWS for those that have endured such evils. God s Glory is coming Good things of God are coming If you are reproached for the Name of Christ, happy are you, for the spirit of glory and of God rests upon you (1 Peter 4:14). I RECKON The Apostle Paul declares, For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us (Romans 8:18). April 2013
