1 SONG: Life Is A Wonderful Thing I woke up this morning- got out of my bed, Looked in the mirror and I got myself dressed, With a stretch and a yawn and a scratch of my head, Life is a wonderful thing, I said, Life is a wonderful thing! My heart is beating, morning til evening I ve got the breath of life inside. My heart is dreaming, I ve got the feeling, It s so lovely when you know you re alive! I went out this morning and what did I see? Buds and blossoms and the birds in the trees With a skip and whistle a thought came to me, Life is a wonderful thing, indeed, Life is a wonderful thing I went out this morning with little to do. Mum said, Son, you d better tidy you re room. Then a friend came to see me and I was excused, Life is a wonderful thing, it s true, Life is a wonderful thing I woke up this morning and here s what I thought: What surprises will I find at my door? With a new day before me and plenty in store, Life is a wonderful thing, for sure. Life is a wonderful thing. Life is a wonderful thing, uh huh, Life is a wonderful thing. Ruby W: I ve created a riddle; can you guess what it is about? I m as cute as can be I m yellow all around I have an orange beak Please guess me now. What am I? (Audience to answer) Ella: Our Easter assembly is all about the story of Easter. It is very important to remember that Easter begins on Ash Wednesday, which is the start of Lent. Zoe: Lent is the countdown of 40 days until Easter; it is a season of reflection and preparation before the celebrations of Easter. Phoebe: By observing the 40 days of Lent, Christians give up something to signify the sacrifice Jesus made at Easter time. Mitchell: They give up something that they will miss. For example they might not eat biscuits for 40 days. Kaya: Why 40 days? Malachi: 40 is a significant number in the Jewish-Christian scripture.
5 Erin: The book of Genesis tells us about the flood which destroyed the earth. It brought 40 days and nights of rain. Madison: The Hebrews spent 40 years in the wilderness before reaching the land promised to them by god. Ellie: Moses fasted for 40 days before receiving the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai (sigh nigh) Joshua: Fasting is when people choose to go without food. Sonny: Jesus spent 40 days fasting in the wilderness in preparation for his ministry. Albert: Lent is an old English word meaning lengthen. Opening Scene children discussing Easter eggs. Erin : Hey! It s great getting all these lovely chocolate eggs, but that s not the real reason for Easter. Lily M: What is the real reason? Mollie: Well, my Nan told me last night it s an important Christian celebration. Lily M: Really?! Ruby : If you want, I ll tell you, what my nan told me. Lily M: OK Francesco: It happened around 2,000 years ago in a country called Israel. Israel was part of the Roman Empire and was ruled mainly by 3 rich, powerful men. Mollie: These men were, Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor. Herod, the governor of Galilee, and Caiaphas, the High Priest of the main temple in the capital of Jerusalem. Dylan: But none of these men were as important as Jesus and his twelve disciples.
6 SONG: Hosanna Who spoke words of wisdom and life? (Only the one they call Jesus) Understood what people are like? (Nobody other than him) Who performed miraculous signs? (Only the one they call Jesus) Healed the sick, gave sight to the blind (Nobody other than him) Miss B Mrs E Hosanna! Hosanna! Rejoice! Praise Him, come praise him! Sing praise! Hosanna! Hosanna! (Only the one they call Jesus) Turned the water into good wine? (Nobody other than him) Who got people following him? (Only the one they call Jesus) Changed their lives, forgave all their sin? (Nobody other than him) X2 Ellie W: Jesus had said and done some amazing things Tom: He turned water into wine Shaun: He calmed storms Jake: He walked on water and healed the sick Ryan: He made blind people see again. Freddie K: And most importantly, many people actually believed he was God s son.
7 Sydane: It all started when Jesus arrived in Jerusalem. The first thing he wanted to do was to visit the temple and pray to god. Barney: The people of Jerusalem waved Palm leaves to greet him. Grace: And now because of that, The holy week begins with Palm Sunday Bella: But when he got there he was shocked by what he saw. Paolo: Instead of people praying to god, he found lots of thieves and other dishonest people who had turned the temple into a kind of market. Trade sellers appear trying to sell some things. Layla: Jesus was furious and started turning over the market stalls and driving the corrupt traders out. Rosie: For the next few days, Jesus returned to the temple to help teach the people of Jerusalem how they should live their lives and to pray to god. Lily H: Because of this, the leader of the temple got angry with Jesus. Bertie: They believed they were the only ones who were allowed to teach the people about god. So they hatched a plan to get Jesus arrested and killed. Evie F: Jesus found out about their evil plan, and knew he had little time left. Mulkom: So one evening, he decided to have a special supper with his disciples. His disciples didn t realise that this would be the last supper they would have together. Tia: Jesus and his disciples had had a lovely supper together in the gardens of Gethsemane. Freddie G: The children in Miss Bektas and Mrs Enright s class wrote the script for this scene. It s about the last supper. Jack will play Jesus in this scene. SCENE: Last Supper. (Harry S (Jesus), Lexi (Mary), Jack (Judas) Callum (Peter) 10 disciples. (Jack/Judas, walks of off the stage) (Harry S / Jesus, stands up and starts to walk around.) Harry S / Jesus: (in a depressed voice) There are people in Jerusalem who do not like me. (Harry S / Jesus goes to table to get bread and wine, and takes it bake to where he is sitting) Harry S / Jesus: (tearing up the bread) This is my body, take it and remember me, eat it. Harry S / Jesus: (getting a glass of wine) This is my blood, take it and drink it, also to remember me. Freddie G: All the disciple s eat the bread and drink the wine to remember Jesus. Jodie: Later the guards came to arrest Jesus. Tienna: They paid Judas 30 pieces of silver and Jesus was taken away by the guards. Lewis: The children in Mrs King s class write the script for this scene. Men: (sternly) Come with us Jack/Judas: Arrest him, take him away (pointing to the distance) Harry/Jesus: (Concerned) What have I done wrong? Callum/Peter chops off one of the men s ears. Callum/Peter: (Shouts) Get away from my lord Harry/Jesus: You shouldn t have done that Peter (touching guard s ear and healing it) (The men take Jesus away) (Jesus on the cross with two others being crucified. Mary and his best friend knelt by the cross.) SONG: Crucify Him Crowd Crucify Him! Crucify Him! Crucify Him! Crucify Him!
10 The King of the Jews REPEAT Pilate What has this man done to you? May-be what he says is true? What if he really is King of the Jews? The charges against him are few. You tell me what I should do? I wash my hands of it, I ll let you choose. Repeat from the beginning (slowly phase out) Julia: Jesus was crucified. As he died, the sky turned black, even though it was the middle of the afternoon. Mulkom: Everyone was upset; some of Jesus s friends and disciples took Jesus s body down from the cross and laid him in a tomb. Ellie A: A large rock was placed at the front of the tomb so no one could get in. Lily H: The Romans left a group of soldiers guarding the tomb. Olivia: Three days later, some of Jesus s friends decided to go and visit his tomb. When they got there they were amazed at what they saw. The rock had been rolled away and the tomb was empty. Ruby W: The women weren t sure what to believe, but as they started running to tell the disciples what they had found, they met Jesus himself! Tienna: It was true, Jesus was alive. Albert: The children in both year 5 classes wrote the script for this scene. SCENE: Year 5 Class: The reunion (Jesus, Peter, Mary, John (Dylan) 10 disciples) Cody: Jesus s good friend Mary arrived at the tomb where his body had been placed. However, she was very soon to find that his body had vanished. Lexi/Mary: What has happened? Where is he? Where is my beautiful friend? Why is the tomb empty? (falls to knees sobbing)
11 Harry S /Jesus: (walks towards Mary and puts his hand on her shoulder). Whatever are you crying about? Do not be sad. Lexi/Mary: But the tomb is empty (points to the tomb) Jesus has disappeared. (stuttering sadly) Harry S/Jesus: But Mary look at me, it is me Jesus. (turns Mary to face him) Lexi/Mary: How can that be? Is it really you? (hugs Jesus) I must spread the news, I must tell everyone. Callum/Peter: Mary what news do you have? You look so happy. Lexi/Mary: It is Jesus he is alive. Callum/Peter: Jesus has risen? Can this be true? He has really risen? Jesus enters. Callum/Peter: Jesus it is true you re back. We must celebrate. John come and hear the news. (John hugs Jesus) Dylan/John: This is wonderful Jesus, we must tell everyone. Song: Empty Tomb Verse Chorus It was early Sunday morning, A lovely, bright new day, There at the grave of Jesus, The stone had been rolled away! The tomb was clearly empty, The soldiers had run away, Then standing right before them, An angel who d come to say Oh, Oh, Oh, Jesus is not here, Oh, Oh, Oh, just an empty tomb, Oh, Oh, Oh, Jesus is not here, Oh, Oh, Oh, he has risen! Oh, Oh, Oh, Jesus is alive, Oh, Oh, Oh, he has beaten death, Oh, Oh, Oh, Jesus is alive
12 Oh, Oh, Oh, Jesus, he has won! He has won, He has won, He has won! (Repeat verse And chorus) Ending He has won! ( x4) Sydnae: Over the coming weeks, Jesus was seen by all the disciples and hundreds of people. They were so excited, that the news that Jesus had risen again quickly spread. SONG: Easter Jubilation Easter Jubilation fills the streets and towns, Celebrations have begun. Hear the music and the dancing now, Join the laughter and the fun. OH! Raise a joyful shout! Clap your hands and dance let your feelings out. OH! Hear what it s about Christ the Lord has come to set us free! Put aside your sorrows, wipe your tears away, For a better time will come. There s a promise of a brighter day, Join the laughter and the fun! La, la, la, la etc.. (Dance and clap throughout verse) Easter jubilation fills the streets and towns, Celebrations have begun. Hear the music and the dancing now, Join the laughter and the fun! X2 Christ the Lord has come to set us free! HEY! Zoe: Easter celebrates new life. It is a happy time and some churches hold special celebration services.
13 Ruby R: Good Friday remembers the day Jesus was put on the cross. Bella: Christians regard Easter Sunday as the most important day of the Christian year (even more important than Christmas day). Evie W: Easter celebrates Jesus victory over death and new life. Rosie: Christians believe Jesus is the light of the world and at Easter light has overcome darkness, good has triumphed over evil. Erin: The custom of giving eggs at Easter is to celebrate new life. For Christians the egg is a symbol of Jesus resurrection Harry H: When the egg is cracked open it represents the empty tomb. No one knows when eggs were first used as symbols at festival times. Blue: Eggs were always thought to be special because although they don t seem alive. They have life inside them. At spring time the eggs hatch out. Mollie: The first sweet eggs were made in the last hundred years from sugar or marzipan. Since then chocolate eggs have become popular and they are given on Easter Sunday. Lily M: So when you are eating your Easter eggs this year, please remember what they represent to us all. SONG: The Chocolate Song Oh I got lots of chocolate, Give me lovely chocolate, It s the best thing to eat, for sure. When I get eggs for Easter It s my favourite treat So I can always make some room for more! I ve got some plain and milk ones and some toffee-filled ones, I ve got boxes all around the place. I ve got a strong affection for my chocolate collection, I m mad about that chocolate taste!
14 I ve eaten milky-white ones and the sweets inside them. I ve got chocolate all around my face! They all had pretty wrappers, but that s not what matters, I m mad about that chocolate taste! I ve had some sickly sweet ones and some pretty cheap ones, But I couldn t see them go to waste. I s pose I should know better, but it s nearly Easter, I m mad about that chocolate taste! X 2 Tia: Thank you for watching our Easter assembly. We hope you have enjoyed it.
