1 The Ministry of Jesus A Reader s Theatre THE TEMPTATION OF JESUS Characters: Jesus and Satan Setting: Desert Props: Rocks The temptation of Jesus Jesus was in the desert He was tempted by Satan Jesus was hungry, after 40 days and 40 nights Then the devil came to Him, and said: If you are God s son, then turn these stones into bread Jesus answered The scriptures say, Man cannot live on bread alone But by every word of God Then the devil took Jesus to Jerusalem The Holy City Set Him on the highest point of the temple And said to Him If you are God s Son, Throw yourself down God will give orders to His angels to save you They will hold you up with their hands Not even your feet will be hurt on the stones Written and performed by Grades 3 & 6 at CMS, Bethany Rubino,

4 A fierce storm hit the lake Jesus was asleep The disciples were afraid They woke Him up What little faith you have! He ordered the waves to STOP Peace Be still And there was a great storm Everyone was amazed. HEALING THE PARALYZED MAN James, Thaddeus, Simon, Judas, Paralyzed Man, 4 friends carrying man, Crowd of people, Pharisees Setting: City Props: Small Blanket Jesus heals a paralyzed man They brought a paralyzed man to Him Jesus saw he had faith Jesus said Courage my son! 5 What they were thinking So he said to the man Get up Pick up your bed Go home When the people saw it They were amazed And praised God RAISING GIRL FROM DEATH James, Thaddeus, Simon, Judas, Jewish Official, Little Girl, Mourners, Setting: City/house Props: Blanket ALL: Jesus raises a girl from death A Jewish official came to Jesus My daughter has just died Come Place your hands on her And she will live Jesus went to the official s house Get out, he said to the mourners The girl is not dead, she is just Sleeping Jesus took the girl s hand Written and performed by Grades 3 & 6 at CMS, Bethany Rubino,

6 And she got up PARABLE OF THE SOWER Characters: Jesus, Sower Setting: Field Props: Bag Jesus tells the parable of the sower Once there was a man Who went out to sow some seeds As he scattered the seeds Some fell along the Path Birds came and ate them up Some fell on the Rocky soil Seeds soon sprouted The roots were shallow The sun burned them up Some fell among the Thorns They were soon choked out Some fell in the Good soil They grew into strong plants And bore much grain Written and performed by Grades 3 & 6 at CMS, Bethany Rubino,

7 FEEDING OF THE 5,000 James, Thaddeus, Simon, Judas, Crowd Setting: Lake Shore Props: Bread, Basket Jesus feeds the 5,000 Jesus was teaching on a hillside His disciples said It s already late, send the people away To get something to eat Jesus said Feed them All we have are Five loaves and two fish Jesus said, bring them to me Jesus looked up to heaven He gave thanks to God He broke the loaves And gave them to his disciples Everyone ate and had enough Then the disciples took up the Baskets of leftovers The number who ate was about 5,000 Written and performed by Grades 3 & 6 at CMS, Bethany Rubino,

8 JESUS WALKS ON WATER James, Thaddeus, Simon, Judas Setting: Lake Props: Boat Jesus walks on water Jesus was sad because John Had died On the other side of the lake His disciples were in a boat There was a storm Jesus walked on the water Toward the boat Disciples screamed GHOST! Jesus said, it s me Peter wanted proof that it was Jesus Peter walks on the water He saw the waves and became scared Peter was drowning Because of his lack of faith Jesus saved Peter Disciples said Truly you are the son of God! 9 JUDAS ACCEPTS PAYMENT Characters: Judas, Pharisees Setting: Temple Props: Bag with Coins Judas accepts payment for betrayal Judas went to the chief priest He asked What will you give me If I betray Jesus? They paid him One Two Three Thirty. Silver coins. THE LAST SUPPER James, Thaddeus, Simon, Judas Setting: House Props: Bread, Cup with Juice The last supper While they were eating Jesus took a piece of bread Gave a prayer of thanks Broke it And gave it to the disciples Written and performed by Grades 3 & 6 at CMS, Bethany Rubino,

10 Take and eat For this is my body Then he took a cup Gave thanks to God And gave it to them Drink it This is my blood Then they sang a hymn JESUS ARREST James, Thaddeus, Simon, Judas, Pharisees, Servant, Small Mob Setting: Garden Props: Plastic Sword Jesus is arrested Jesus was praying On a mountain alone Some of his disciples Were taking guard Jesus returned to His disciples And Judas arrived with an army Judas kissed Jesus That was the signal to arrest Him They arrested Jesus One of the disciples cut a servant s ear With a sword Written and performed by Grades 3 & 6 at CMS, Bethany Rubino,

11 Jesus said Who takes a sword dies by a sword All the disciples ran away All this made the scripture come true SENTENCE TO DEATH Characters: None Setting: Golgotha Props: Cross Crucify Him The crowds shouted Beaten Mocked Beaten Spit upon Beaten Crown of thorns Darkness covered the sun My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? 12 EMPTY TOMB Characters: Jesus, Marys, Soldiers, Angel Setting: Graveyard Props: Grave Stone After the Sabbath As Sunday morning came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb Suddenly, there was a violent earthquake An angel of the Lord came down from Heaven Rolled away the stone And sat on it The guards were so afraid The angel spoke to the women Do not be afraid I know you are looking for Jesus He is not here, He has been raised Go quickly and tell his disciples They left filled with joy Suddenly Jesus met them and said Peace be with you They took hold of his feet and worshiped Him Written and performed by Grades 3 & 6 at CMS, Bethany Rubino,

13 THE COMMISSION James, Thaddeus, Simon Setting: Hill Props: None The commission The eleven disciples went to the hill In Galilee Where Jesus had told them to go When they saw Him They worshiped Him I have been given all authority in Heaven and Earth Said Jesus Go to all people Everywhere And make them my disciples Baptize them In the name of the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit Teach them To obey everything I have commanded you I will be with you until the end of the age.
