God is in the moving business. He is always in the process of moving His people. Although we are often happy with our current address, God loves us enough not to leave us there. Sometimes we can get a little stubborn either because of comfort or fear about changes that He has in mind for us. For example, when the children of Israel were moving from Egypt to the Promised Land, God sent miracle after miracle to get them out. But, they did not want to go in and possess what He intended for them. In fact, in Numbers 14:3, they said,... Wouldn't it be better for us to go back to Egypt? It seems God could physically take His people out of Egypt, but His people could not mentally leave Egypt behind. The old song says, I have decided to follow Jesus No turning back, no turning back. Paul says in Philippians 1:6, Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. God has begun a spiritual project for His people everywhere and you can see the makings of it at Triumph Church. There were many who never wanted us to create additional locations beyond our Liddesdale Street address. Had we not heeded that call, tens of thousands of souls would not have walked down our aisles. Now we stand more than 25,000 souls saved, the largest ministry in the State of Michigan and one of America s fastest growing churches. That is not by accident or by our own efforts. It is His design, through us being obedient to what He called us to do. During this period of 40 Days of Prayer & Fasting, I'm praying that Triumph Church continues to take heed of the lesson we learned from the children of Israel going to the Promised Land. Our earthly Promised Land is not more church buildings, it is the small groups to help build relationships. It is enhanced programs for our young people to experience Christ as early as possible. It is community partnerships so we can continue to make a difference in metropolitan Detroit. It is helping to direct another 25,000 down the aisles, and into a closer relationship with God. Pray that God will continue to move you in the right direction over the next 40 days. Pray that our faith will remain strong as we continue with this vision He has given our church. Thank the Lord for loving you enough not to leave you where you are. Also, thank Him for what He will do in our lives during this 40 day journey! In His service, 2 Rev. Solomon W. Kinloch, Jr. pastor@triumphch.org

WHY FAST? Declare a holy fast; call a sacred assembly. Summon the elders and all who live in the land to the house of the LORD your God, and cry out to the LORD. ~Joel 1:14 1. Jesus fasted. Before He began His ministry, Jesus fasted forty days. He knew He was going to need spiritual strength to fulfill His purpose. Fasting makes us physically weak but spiritually strong and prepares us to do God's work. Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, He was hungry. ~Matthew 4:1-2 Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about Him spread through the whole countryside. ~Luke 4:14 2. Fasting is an act of humility and consecration.... I put on sackcloth and humbled myself with fasting.... ~Psalm 35:13 Humility results in the grace of God. When we humble ourselves in prayer, we have instant access to the heart of God. As we deny ourselves as an act of consecration, we are able to exercise self-control. We can keep our emotions and desires under control. 3. Fasting helps us become sensitive to the Holy Spirit. While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them. ~Acts 13:2 When we deny ourselves of our natural cravings, our spiritual antennas become sharper. We become more sensitive to His voice as we divest ourselves of worldly distractions. We are better able to focus on God and submit to His will. This opens the door for the Holy Spirit into our lives. 4. Fasting brings revival.... in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood from the Scriptures, according to the word of the LORD given to Jeremiah the prophet, that the desolation of Jerusalem would last seventy years. So I turned to the Lord God and pleaded with him in prayer and petition, in fasting, and in sackcloth and ashes. ~Daniel 9:2-3 Fasting helps us prevail in prayer and intercession. Daniel understood that Israel was headed for destruction. He also knew that in times like these, there is only one recourse intercession through praying and fasting. Throughout human history, God has brought revival and delivered nations from destruction in response to prayer and fasting. 5. Fasting is healthy. Fasting cleanses your digestive system from toxins. Doctors consider fasting a cure for certain allergies and diseases. By learning to deny ourselves and exercising discipline, fasting breaks unhealthy addictions in our lives. When a man is willing to set aside the legitimate appetites of the body to concentrate on the work of praying, he is demonstrating that he means business, that he is seeking with all his heart, and will not let God go unless He answers. Arthur Wallis 3

HOW TO FAST SAFELY As you begin your fast, you may hear from concerned loved ones and friends who urge you to protect your health. And they are right. You should protect your health. But I assure you, if done properly, fasting will prove to be a spiritual and physical blessing. By all means, consult your doctor before you begin your fast. But, be aware that many doctors have not been trained in this area, so their understanding is limited. Even so, it would be wise to ask your doctor for a physical exam to make sure you are in good health. You may have a physical problem that would make fasting unwise or dangerous. Also, if you are on any type of medication, make sure you talk to your doctor before changing your regimen. Prudence and caution are in order. When you are assured that you are in good health, you are ready to begin your fast. Despite the absolute safety and benefits of fasting, there are certain persons who should NEVER fast without professional supervision. For example: Persons who are physically too thin or emaciated Persons who are prone to anorexia, bulimia, or other behavioral disorders Those who suffer weakness or anemia Persons who have tumors, bleeding ulcers, cancer, blood diseases, or who have heart disease Those who suffer chronic problems with kidneys, liver, lungs, heart, or other important organs Individuals who take insulin for diabetes, or suffer any other blood sugar problem such as hyperglycemia Women who are pregnant or nursing PREPARING TO FAST Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my maids will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish. ~ Esther 4:16 Spiritual and physical preparation is vital in sustaining a fast, no matter how long it may be. 1. Be in faith! Prayerfully and thoughtfully, fill out the daily reflections of this guide. Choose a prayer partner to stand in agreement with you; this person will be your accountability friend helping you stay on target from dietary and spiritual standpoints. Ask the Holy Spirit for guidance. Be clear and specific about your faith goals in your personal life, family, finances, and church as seen on the back cover. These are what you will believe God for during the fast and the entire year. Expect God to answer. Maintain a thankful heart throughout and after the fast. 2. Plan your calendar. Limit your physical and social activities during this period. You need to conserve physical energy and devote more time to prayer and reading the Bible. 3. Prepare spiritually. In preparation for this special time with God, examine your heart and detect any unconfessed sin. Scripture records that God always requires His people to repent of their sins before He will hear their prayers. In your prayers, confess not only obvious sins, but less obvious ones as well. These may include worldly-mindedness, self-centeredness, spiritual indifference, unwillingness to share your faith in Christ with others, not spending sufficient time in God s Word and in prayer, or a poor relationship with your family members, your pastor, or other members of your church. 4. Prepare physically. Be smart as you enter into this fast. Do not go to a buffet restaurant on the eve of the fast, hoping to stock up on food in your body. The key is to gradually prepare your body. Start eating smaller portions and meals seven days before you begin your fast. Cutting down on your meals a few days before you begin the fast will signal your mind, stomach, and appetite that less food is acceptable. Avoid food that is high in sugar and fat. Two days prior to the fast, eat raw fruit and vegetables only. Consult a physician if you need to. 4

DURING THE FAST When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. ~Matthew 6: Seek the Lord. Commit to prayer and Bible reading during the times you usually allocate for meals. Be ready to respond when you hear from God. This guide also has a devotional that we encourage you to go through daily during the fast. 2. Commit to change. Whatever God tells you or puts His finger upon, apply it immediately. If you need to make restitution, immediately contact people you have broken relationships with. If there are habits that need to change, make the adjustment immediately. Ask a trusted friend from your church to hold you accountable. (Have that person sign the back of this book.) 3. Practical tips a. Avoid medical and even natural herbal drugs. However, if you are under medication, these should only be withdrawn upon the advice of your doctor. b. Limit your physical activity and exercise. If you have a workout routine, adjust it accordingly. A daily one to three mile walk should be your maximum amount of exercise during an extended fast. c. Rest as much as you can. d. Maintain an attitude of prayer throughout the day. Intercede for your family, pastors, church, nation, our missionaries, world missions, etc. e. Drink plenty of clean water. f. As your body adjusts, be prepared for temporary bouts of physical weakness as well as mental annoyances like impatience, irritability, and anxiety. Pray for their personal needs. Try to look at life from their standpoint. What are the worries and joys, pressures and decisions, dreams and fears that they face? Pray for those things. Pray about their spiritual life. What are the things that are keeping them away from God? Pray that God would soften their hearts and bring them to faith in Christ. If you are doing this as a group or with a friend, pray for their three friends also. Pray that the Lord would give opportunities to share something of His love with them. Believe that these three people will change during the 40 Days of Prayer & Fasting. 5

1 Leaving the Leftovers Psalm 51:10; Psalm 34:18; Psalm 147:3 Ash Wednesday, February 10 This is what the LORD says he who made a way through the sea, a path through the mighty waters 'Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland. (Isaiah 43:16, 18-19) ~ Isaiah 43:16, Fasting is a time when you let go of familiar foods, habits, and patterns. The challenge of those physical constraints could easily command all of your attention during your period of fasting; however, fasting is a powerful spiritual discipline that you can also use to let go of the leftover emotional pains and disappointments of your past. Just as you must turn to God to overcome the physical temptations of the flesh, you can turn to God to overcome your negative emotional challenges, too. If your negative past plays over and over in your head like a broken record, fasting and prayer may be just what you need to get your breakthrough. God can breakthrough the lonely deserts of loss, grief, shame, sadness, and heartbreak. He can bring fresh streams to wash away former wastelands of unforgiveness, guilt, self-condemnation, rejection, and despair. If you ask Him, God will enable you to leave the painful leftovers behind and embrace a new and better future. Gwen Hill Are you ready to let go and let God cleanse away the old deserts and wastelands from your past? By allowing God to do a new thing in your life, you can emerge physically, emotionally, and spiritually renewed. Leaving the past behind, I ask for and accept the new, brighter future God has for me. Father, I ask to break free from the painful deserts and wastelands of my past. I surrender it all to You. Help me to see, feel, and live the new life You have for me. In Jesus' name, Amen.

2 Timeout Romans 8:38-39; John 16:13 Thursday, February 11 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God s will is His good, pleasing and perfect will. ~ Romans 12:2 There are times in our lives where we must quiet ourselves, or to be still and know that He is God. Many may see this as an offensive withdrawal; however, we need this isolation to fully meditate on the word of God. Such commitment and concentration ensures He has our full attention. We are unable to survive in this life without establishing intimacy that surpasses any human experience with God, our creator. This should be our most valued relationship. He knew us before we were placed in the womb, and he is the author of our fate. Alone time makes way for God to grant the provision of revelation and an end to the means of the world that seeks to destroy us. Good relationships take time and effort. Make time to develop a close, personal relationship with God. Jeannine Washington God is intentional. How can you be intentional in establishing a good relationship with Him? What will you do to improve your communication with and commitment to Him? I am a child of God. I am committed to building a stronger relationship with my Father, whose love endures forever more. Lord, I come to you in humbleness, thanking You for your love that you give so abundantly. I ask Your forgiveness for turning my back to You time and again. I ask that you remove all distractions that threaten the quality time together that You so desire. Help me build a better, stronger relationship with You. Amen.

3 Delight In The Lord Luke 18:12 1 Corinthians 7:5 Friday, February 12 When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. ~ Matthew 6:16-18 Christians love to eat. That's why so many chickens have given their lives in service to God! A lot of people can't imagine giving up their favorite foods in order to fast, but we must deny ourselves for God. People give all kinds of excuses for not being able to fast. We already know that an excuse is nothing but a guarded lie, so we must stop lying to ourselves. We can fast. All we need is the desire. God has promised that if we delight in Him, He will give you the desires of your heart according to His will. To fast is to delight yourself in God. Fasting opens the door for God to move on our behalves. Rachel Araya Spiritual fasting will bring you closer to God s will for your life. It s Day 3 of the fast. Am I making more time for God? Are all my thoughts of what I cannot eat? Am I praying more? I am called to fast. I will delight myself in the LORD. Dear Heavenly Father, I humbly come before in thanksgiving for all of my blessings. I ask for Your will to be done before, during, after fasting. I ask for Your strength in my weakness in the name of Jesus. Amen. 9

4 Galatians 6:9; 1 Corinthians 15:58 Saturday, February 13 Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him. ~ 2 Samuel 22:29 Don't Give Up Trials are difficult for many of us. We tend to dread our season of storms. We sometimes become discouraged and broken when we are faced with trials, and we wonder why we must endure such difficulties. However, we must not forget that God had to allow the storm to come our way. Surely He would not permit us to enter a storm that we are not prepared for. He has provided us with the tools and resources necessary to persevere. Therefore, we must use the strength He has given us to push our way through our storms. We must hold fast to our faith that He will fulfill every promise He has made. Dig inside yourself and locate the seeds that were planted and are ready to bear fruit. Push through until you see the sunshine. God will surely reward your faith and perseverance because His word says so. Crystal Cooley With each storm, we should grow and mature spiritually as we gain more insight, more faith and more knowledge. Consider your last storm. Can you see your growth in how you approached this storm in comparison to your last storm? I will conquer this storm because God has prepared me to do so. Lord, thank You for showing me that I can conquer my storms because You have prepared me for them. Help me to use the tools You have given me to persevere, thereby acknowledging Your presence and remembering that with You all things are possible. Amen. 10

5 Not Just Another Day Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of life. ~ Psalm 23:6 Psalm100; Psalm 117 Sunday, February 14 Each day brings another opportunity to praise and receive the blessings that God has in store for you. Departing from your routine and being deprived of a few of your favorite indulges set the stage for clear and focused attention on the Father. It is not just another day where you go about your usual routine. You have been granted, by grace, another day to concentrate, listen to, and meditate on Him. Everyday is not easy because you hit low, stormy periods. However, bear in mind that you have undertaken this fast to gain strength, direction, and a closer relationship with God. It is not just another day. It is a day to give thanks and to seek deliberate connection to the Holy Spirit. When it is difficult to stay on course, ask for help. Each set-back or let-down is a chance to cling to, restore, and deepen your resolve about His presence in your life. What ever challenges the day might bring, know that God is steady; He is the anchor that keeps us upright, and He is waiting for your closer, focused relationship with Him. Cynthia Redwine Have you stopped to consider the wondrous works of God, the grace you have experienced, the blessings you are experiencing, and where He wants to lead you now? I increase my joy by embracing the day with gratitude. Precious Lord, help me to seek an everlasting spirit of praise. Help me to continue to grow in faith and have Your will take charge of my battles. Amen

6 Suit Up Ephesians 6:11, Monday, February 15 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. ~ Ephesians 6:12 Have you ever thought about the space suits that astronauts wear? They are designed to protect them from lack of oxygen and extreme temperatures, which, in space, can range from minus 250º to 250º Fahrenheit in the sunlight. The suits have different parts; one part covers the chest, another part covers the arms and connects to gloves, the helmet protects the head, and the last part covers the legs and feet. As Christians, we need to suit up, too! We war against spiritual forces and need protection. Fortunately, God has provided us with a spiritual suit: Putting on faith and love as a breastplate and the hope of salvation as a helmet (1 Thessalonians 5:8). Weapons are also included: The weapons we fight with are not weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:4). As you get dressed today and everyday, do not forget to put on your spiritual suit! Monica Starks Are you ready for spiritual battle? What are some things you can do to strengthen your spiritual armor? Everyday, I will put on the whole armor of God so that when evil comes, I will be able to stand firm. Lord, help me to pray in the Spirit on all occasions, praying for all of the Lord's people. Amen. 12

7 Sacrifice Your Time Hebrews 13:16, Romans 5:8 John 3:16, Romans 12:1 Philippians 2:4, 2 Peter 3:9 Tuesday, February 16 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of [our] lips giving thanks to his name. ~ Hebrews 13:15 The Word of God has been designed for us to read, meditate on, and abide in. He gave His only begotten son so that we may have everlasting life. It is essential that we sacrifice our time and give God our best. God is in search of true worshippers who will worship in spirit and truth. He is always waiting for His children to bow before Him. God created us in his image and to his likeness. We take on His very characteristics, which we should display at all times. We should learn how to deny ourselves daily and strip ourselves of the things that are not of Him. We should be attentive of the things He whispers to us. We must find that place where we can be still and know that He is God. We must represent Him with confidence and boldness. Donyell Brown Sacrificing time for the Lord is another sign of surrendering. Make the decision to abide in Him, so that He can perfect greatness within you. What are some pleasures you can sacrifice to spend more time with Him? I shall abide in Christ daily. He strengthens me and gives me supplication for my life. Lord, help me to die to myself daily. Please renew my mind, restore my heart, and let Your grace continue to reign over me. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

Adversities Birth 8 Opportunities Proverbs 3:4-6; Romans 8: Corinthians 4:8-9; 1 Peter 5:6-10 Wednesday, February 17 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. ~ 2 Corinthians 12:8-10 Why do we, more often than not, murmur and complain about things that do not go as we planned? Yes, our lives can sometimes make a 180-degree turn in the blink of an eye, but it is really how we view that change that separates some from most. When change happens, we can feel out of control and lost. Maybe we were loyal to a company for 15 years, feeling extremely comfortable and secure that we would retire from there. But then, as a result of management's decision to downsize, our position was eliminated. Now we are laid off, and the job we have committed a large part of our lives to is no more. What do we do now? Do we sit and wallow in anger and despair? Do we over analyze the situation, trying to make a case as to why we should still have our job? We can do all of that, but what will it change? Most likely nothing. Sometimes, we complain about the cross we bear, not realizing it is preparing us to deal with something farther down the line. This is why we cannot make the mistake of confusing our current situation with our destiny. In darker times, we should also remind ourselves that just because it is stormy now does not mean there will not be sunshine tomorrow. We cannot allow the things the enemy tries to destroy us with to control our outcome. It is all in the way we look at it. If we see a situation as a problem, then it is, but if we view it as an opportunity to learn, grow, or elevate ourselves, then that is what it is. Adversities are simply opportunities to rise to a level of greatness. Kim Johnson What are some things I thought were roadblocks, that I can turn into opportunities? I know what I have gone through will prepare me for where God wants to take me. 14 Lord, I know that even in my brokenness you are preparing me for victory. I thank You for turning my adversities into great opportunities and pray You continue to strengthen and guide me. In Jesus' name, Amen.

9 God Our Creator Psalm 103:1 Psalm 148 Thursday, February 18 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.. ~ Colossians 1:16 When we acknowledge the Creator of heaven and earth, we leave no room for doubt in our minds that our Heavenly Father is the creator of the universe. Our Father is very meticulous. All we need to do is look at the beauty of the sky and the earth around us to realize that we serve a God who pays attention to the smallest details even those related to creating a flower. How much more will He be detailed in the plan that He has for your life? Look around you and thank the Heavenly Father for all that He has done for you in all creation. God loves it when you brag on Him and about Him. During your fast, start appreciating the beauty that is life and the power that is God. Give Him total praise, and watch how He will begin to fill your heart with joy. Rachel Araya Do you thank God every day for this creation called life? God will bless you in numerous ways when you give him praise and honor. Go throughout your fasting days knowing that God is God, and thanking God that He is God. No one will take care of you and love you better. Rest in Him. I lift my hands in total praise! Father God, who is like You? There is none in heaven or earth like our mighty and awesome God. Oh Lord, You have created all things and by You all things exist. You have chosen to have Your Holy Spirit live inside of us. Thank you, Father, for Your creation. Please create all that I need during this time of fasting. Amen.

10 Flood Zone 1 Corinthians 2:9 Jeremiah 29:11 Luke 6:38 Friday, February 19 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it, not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it-they will be blessed in what they do. ~ James 1:25 As life would have it, each day will come with its share of trials, triumphs, pains, and gains. Therefore, it is important to keep the faith and to continue pressing towards the mark, being careful not to react to the minimalist sights of the human eye. We were written as heirs to the Lord's throne and are predestined to receive His promise of prosperity. Pastor Kinloch often reminds us that God does not intend to take anything away from us as He seeks to win our hearts; instead, He wants nothing more than to grant us abundant, everlasting life. When we reach for Him, and follow His path of righteousness, this victory is ours. Jeannine Washington Provision is forever present by the grace of God. We should commit our lives to Him without hesitation. How will you show your commitment to God? Holy Spirit, I am willing to replace drama with purposeful service. Teach me and guide me to channel my passion and energy into meaningful service for good. I thank You, oh Lord, for this gift of life. I thank You for the abundance of provision you grace me with from day to day. You have prepared and positioned me to help advance Your Kingdom. Lord, I honor You by blessing others as You have blessed me and pouring into other souls that which You have poured onto me. Amen.

11 Esau s Appetite Genesis 25: Peter 2:9 Saturday, February 20 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. ~ Matthew 6:31-32 Esau had been out hunting all day and he was famished. He was so hungry, in fact, that he was willing to trade his future for food. Jacob, Esau's brother, offered him a bowl of stew in exchange for Esau's birthright as the firstborn, and Esau was quick to take the trade. What a lopsided bargain! The birthright established leadership and spiritual authority and was part of the covenant promise given to Abraham. We are part of a royal priesthood, a chosen generation with a godly heritage (1 Peter 2:9). When we make the choice to fulfill our desires and sin against God instead of choosing to obey Him, we are guilty of compromising our birthright as children adopted into the family of God. Amanda Johnson Choosing to satisfy your physical desires will distort your spiritual values. What are some things I ve chosen physically, that have pushed my spiritual-being to the background? Father, teach me to feed my spiritual needs FIRST, so that I have the faith in You to fill my physical needs. Dear God, give me the determination to trust You with my physical needs and desires. I know that You have given me certain desires as a human being. I dedicate myself to bringing them under the control of the Holy Spirit as I anticipate Your provision. Amen. 17

12 Faith in the Midst of Chaos Hebrews 11:1; John 6:28-29; Ephesians 6:16 James 1:5-6; Hebrews 11:6 1 John3:23; 2 Chronicles 20:20 Sunday, February 21 Jesus replied, 'Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, Go, throw yourself into the sea, and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive whatsoever you ask for in prayer.' ~ Matthew 21:21-22 Have you ever prayed for something and immediately negated the prayer? You make excuses like, God does not listen to me, I am not worthy, or Maybe I am asking for too much. Have you ever considered why your faith wavered? Do you ever ask yourself how you can increase your faith or help someone else whose faith is wavering? Paul knew and understood the Christian struggle. That is why he told the Philippian Church, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Phillipians 4:13). He wrote the Philippians Epistle under hard circumstances while he was a prisoner. No matter what our circumstances may be, and no matter how hard life may seem, Jesus wants us to have faith. Monica Starks Has your faith ever wavered? How did you respond in the past? How will you respond in the future? With faith the size of a mustard seed, I can move mountains! Heavenly Father, I come before You with thanksgiving and praise. Lord, I will increase my faith to do Your will. I know all things are possible with God. I know that includes increasing my faith. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

Not My Will But 13 God s Will Instead, you ought to say, If it is the Lord s will, we will live and do this or that. ~ James 4:15 Matthew 26:39,42 Ephesians 6:6 Monday, February 22 Have you ever been in a place in your life where you believe, I ought to do this or that? It may be personal or professional, and in your mind, it is something that you feel you must do! You believe it is in your space. You believe it is your will! However, along the way, things just do not feel right. You run into obstacles. You are frustrated. You feel God is not helping and not answering your prayers. Have you ever thought, it may be my will, but it is not the Lord s will? I can meditate, I can reflect on the directions I have chosen to let God s will redirect my path. Listening and praying for guidance has to be my daily practice. C. Denise Griffith What do you believe is God's will for your life? Do you believe you are following God's will? When your will gets in the way, how can you get back on track? Lord, You know me better than I know myself. I trust You to order my steps and to provide me with the vision to see Your will for my life. Lord, please provide me with the will to openly listen and hear Your voice. I pray for Your guidance. I pray for Your insight. Please continue to show me the signs. In Jesus' holy name, I pray. Amen. 19

The How is Not 14 Your Job Luke 12:24 Philippians 4:19 Matthew 21:22 Tuesday, February 23 Trust [rely on and have confidence] in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy [securely] safe pasture. ~ Psalm 37:3 When God tells us to do something, we often get so caught up in trying to figure out how we are going to get it done that we never do it. We become so consumed with the how of a situation that we fail to allow God to work. If God told us to do it, He has already made provisions for us to get it done. Many of us do the same thing when we get into situations and God tells us He will work it out. We are so concerned with how God is going to work it out that we worry ourselves out of our blessings. The how is not our job faith is. So stop focusing on how God is going to do what He said He would do and focus on trusting who God is. Crystal Cooley Consider how many times God has made a way out of no way. This should eliminate your need to know the how. The how is not my job demonstrating my faith in God is. Father, help me to get out of Your way and leave the how to You. I want to trust You wholeheartedly by demonstrating my faith in You. Amen. 20

15 Walk Humbly with Thy God Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord, and he will lift you up. ~ James 4:10 James 5:16 Psalm 34 Wednesday, February 24 Learning to be less agitated and anxious about situations has been a lifelong struggle, but I have finally adapted a calmer and more relaxed outlook and approach to day-to-day occurrences. My shift has been ongoing and led by my faith and growing relationship with God. I am not where I want to be, but my relationship with Him is strengthened by my humility, focus on His will, and prayer for guidance and wisdom. You are blessed to be here, in your earthly state. Use this time wisely. Self-control, focus, perseverance, and a continued reliance on the Lord will allow you to live life in abundance. You may have previously thought that you could handle what life brought your way on your own, but in reality, you never have. During those negative and positive situations that are a part of your past, God was with you even when you did not acknowledge Him. Acknowledge and talk to Him now, and let Him guide your path. Cynthia Redwine Are you the person you want to be the person God intended you to be? When is the right time for you to be right, to get right? Will you run out of time? I will trust in the Lord forever. His strength is everlasting. Father, help me to strengthen my faith and trust in You with all my heart. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Enemy Wants 16Your Head Matthew 14:6-11; 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 Philippians 4:6-8; Colossians 3:2 James 1:6-8 Thursday, February 25 Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so. Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God. ~ Romans 8:5-8 How many times have we heard someone say, the devil is busy when referring to some issue that has just disrupted the regular routine of his or her life? We give the enemy too much credit because many of the things we blame on him actually are not him at all. The devil does not care about our material possessions or anything related to them what he really wants is our head. If he gets inside our heads, he can put us in a mental place where we will sabotage and destroy our own blessings. He can make us overthink, overanalyze, second guess ourselves, and even reconsider the path God has set for us. Satan s goal is to control our thoughts and emotions. Once we recognize that, we can tell when he really is at work. We can reclaim any temporary residence he has taken up in our heads by officially serving him with an eviction notice. It may not be easy because he hates leaving a dwelling he has become extremely comfortable in. He will resist by trying to trick and confuse us. To him, anything and everything is fair game, so we must be prepared for him to use lies, doubt, fear, and our insecurities to keep us bound. We are children of the most high God, so we must declare that we will no longer fall for his tricks. Kim Johnson Although the enemy appears to be clever, he really is not. He can try to get inside our heads with negative thoughts, but no strong man can enter our house unless we allow him to. What were some blessings that I thought myself out of? My Father will never leave me nor forsake me, and I know He is not a man that He would lie. I refuse to allow negative thoughts and attitudes to keep me from what God is trying to do in my life. The enemy will not have my head! Father, in all that I have gone and will go through, I have learned to trust and depend on You. I thank You for Your blood that saved me and covers me. In Jesus name I pray,

17Power in Weakness 2 Corinthians 13:4 Psalms 136:23 Romans 8:26 Friday, February 26 Each time he said, 'My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.' So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. ~ 2 Corinthians 12:9 Close your eyes and think about the times in your life when God's power brought you through a situation, helped you overcome an obstacle, healed you, or placed forgiveness in your heart for acts your human mind deemed unforgiveable. These incidents occur when we are the weakest. Our purpose, each and every day, is to build the Kingdom of God. We do this through both conscious and unconscious actions. Consciously, we may serve our church and our community, witness the love of God to others, and perform similar actions that are purposeful. Unconsciously, when we are weak, the power of Christ in our lives is witnessed by others, and they are drawn closer to Him as a result of our storms. Know that your storm is not always about you; often, it is about Him working through you to draw others nearer to Him. Also, it is about making you stronger in the midst of your weakness and helping you recognize His grace is all you need. Robynne Sherrill What storm are you facing in your life today? Are you holding onto past hurt or harboring bad feelings about a person or situation? Allow God's power to work in your weakness. He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless (Isaiah 40:29). What will you commit to releasing to God's power today? God's power works through my weakness to make me, and others, stronger. Thank you, God, for Your presence in the midst of my weakness. I surrender this storm to You so that Your power may work through me. I pray that others may witness Your power and be drawn nearer to You for the building up of your Kingdom. In Jesus name, Amen.

18Positive Thinking Philippians 4:8 Saturday, February 27 May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight ~ Psalms 19:14 Seems like whenever I have a medical examination or face any test in life, negative thoughts want to dominate my mind. I know that these thoughts are not of God. As soon as I identify them, I stop and quote God's words to rebuke them. I rebuke them just like I rebuke the devil because, if negative thoughts are not of God, I need to recognize the source and change my thinking. Sounds easy, right? Think about the times you have applied for a job or credit or have been waiting on results from an exam from work, school, or the doctor. You have to fight that little voice inside your head that says, You did not get the job, or You will not get that car loan, or You know the doctor is going to say you are really sick. We have to trust God. He is concerned about our best interest. We must pray about the situation, leave it on the alter, think about all the good things God has done for us, and thank Him for His grace and mercy. Monica Starks When do negative thoughts bother you most? How do you deal with negative thoughts now? What are some positive thoughts you can use to replace the negative ones Thank you, Lord, for your grace and mercy! Lord, I need You. I need Your grace and mercy. I thank you, Lord, for all you have done for me. Please bring the goodness You have shown me to my remembrance. Amen.

19Illuminated Problems John 8:12; Acts 13:47 Ephesians 5:8; Philippians 2:15-16 Sunday, February 28 You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. ~Matthew 5:14-16 Sometimes, God will allow pain and problems in our lives to be very public so that our godly response will be, light to everyone in the house. This kind of vulnerability is rarely easy. More often than not, it is downright uncomfortable. During these times, it is critical that we commit ourselves to living in the light. After all, what logic is there in hiding our light under a bushel? Let us have the courage to shine through the darkness. Amanda Johnson Others may abandon me, ignore me or hurt me, but God will love me always. I will live and walk in the light. Dear Lord, exchange my feeble attempts at being strong through trials for Your supernatural strength. Relieve me of the tendency to hide when things are difficult, and help me to be a living example of Your ability to help Christians make it to the other side of problems. Amen. 25

20 Ecclesiastes 3:1 Lamentations 3:25-26 Ecclesiastes 3:11 Monday, February 29 Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret it leads only to evil. ~ Psalm 37:7-8 Don t Rush Lisa earned a bachelor's degree in business management and began applying for management jobs, expecting to secure the job she thought she deserved with her educational background. She wanted so badly to be a manager and to be in charge, but she could not land a job; she was told she would have to start at the bottom and work her way up. Frustrated, Lisa went back to school to get a master's degree in human resources management. After graduation, she again searched for management positions, only to find that she was underqualified for management positions and overqualified for entry level positons. She was so angry, confused, and frustrated! Lisa began praying and asking God to show her things through His eyes. She noticed her outlook on life changed. She handled situations better, and her newfound patience gave her peace. Within months, she landed a job. Even though it was at the bottom of the organizational chart, she was thrilled. Nine months later, she was promoted to an analyst; six months later, she was promoted to manager. Lisa's experience teaches us that God's timing is always best. We are often in such a rush to get what we want when we want it that we try several alternative paths to get there, when all we need to do is follow the path He has set for us. Crystal Cooley Consider situations you created because things were not happening fast enough for you and you tried to help things along. How did those situations turn out? Did you realize that you were trying to rush God? How will you look at things different beginning today? God, please show me things through Your eyes so that I am in line with Your will. 26 Father, thank You for keeping me from dangers seen and unseen. Help me to understand that Your timing is always the best because You know what is to come. Amen.

21Foot Patrol Ephesians 2:10 Psalms 119:133 Psalms 37:23 Tuesday, March 1 In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps. ~ Proverbs 16:9 Many times, we struggle to determine the direction we should take; we often experience feelings of insecurity and doubt. When we decide to trust God and are willing to be led by His spirit, He will order our steps. God has provided His word, the almighty compass that we may use with confidence when we need direction and guidance. As we behold the spirit of power and peace, we are able to lay the burden of uncertainty down. Then, we can walk with authority into His promise. Jeannine Washington Your life is not your own; it is a gift from God to be used for His glory. What must you change to allow Him to direct you and use you for His purpose? The Lord is my guide. I will let Him determine my direction. Lord, I thank you for Your never ending grace and mercy. Forgive me for the steps I have taken that are not of Your will.take my hand; I surrender to You. You are the head of my life. Prepare, lead, and guide me into Your land of promise. I will give You all the glory and praise. Amen.

22God is in the Details Matthew 15:32-38; Acts 5: Corinthians 16:8-10; Hebrews 11:1 Revelation 22:13 Wednesday, March 2 See how they are repaying us by coming to drive us out of the possession you gave us as an inheritance. Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you. All the men of Judah, with their wives and children and little ones, stood there before the LORD. Then the Spirit of the LORD came on Jahaziel son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite and descendant of Asaph, as he stood in the assembly. He said: 'Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the LORD says to you: Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God's.' ~ 2 Chronicles 20:11-15 Many of us, at some point, have heard the phrase, the devil is in the details. Some use it to refer to the behind the scenes hidden elements that cause difficulty getting a task accomplished. However, it was actually altered from its original phrase, God is in the details, which continues and will continue to ring true. Do you have a desire or dream that will take something outside of yourself to attain? If not, then you are not operating in true faith. If you only do what you feel you are capable of achieving on your own, you are limiting our God who sees all, knows all, and can do all. As the story continues, we read that, through Jahaziel, the spirit told the people to march against the vast army the next day. After taking their position and standing firm, the Lord would deliver victory to them without their having to fight. So Jehoshaphat, the people of Judah, and those who lived in Jerusalem arose early that next morning and did as God instructed. Although it looked like they would be defeated, they trusted the Lord and believed they would be victorious. When they made it to the desert, the army had already been defeated. They had also left their riches and valuables and it took the people of Judah four days to gather them all. Kim Johnson Just as the people of Judah felt there was no way they could defeat the vast enemy army coming to take their inheritance. What are some situations you walked away from, before giving God the opportunity to work? Even when I cannot see it or imagine how it can be done in a logical or scientific sense, I have faith that God has the last say in every situation. My God has all power. 28 Lord, I thank You for Your power, grace, and mercy, and I know You are with me in the darkest situations of life. With every situation, I thank You for your strength because I know You are God Almighty, the author and finisher of it all. Amen.
