The program touched in a special way upon the life and work of the recently deceased Chuck Colson, the former Nixon Administration official who was a co-founder of ECT and was fully dedicated to Christian unity. Mission and Service Reverend Monsignor Joseph R. Chapel, S.T.D., Assistant Spiritual Director for the Seminary; Associate Professor of Moral Theology; Co-Director, Institute for Christian Spirituality; and Director, Center for Diaconal Formation: o Has continued his extensive service to the impoverished of El Salvador: As Founder and Director of the El Salvador Education and Development Fund, Franklin Lakes, NJ, which provides educational scholarships for orphans and provides extensive funding for reconstruction projects for the Aldea Infantil San Antonio, San Miguel, El Salvador, traveled to El Salvador five times in ; Engaged in fundraising and provided spiritual assistance for Hermanas Franciscanas Cooperadoras Parroquiales de la Asunción, in El Salvador and Honduras, providing direct assistance to their mission, the Aldea Infantil San Antonio children s orphanage in San Miguel, El Salvador;

6 6 Traveled on a private Mission trip with two brother priests to dedicate a Peace and Reconciliation Shrine (phase one of a retreat center) in El Mozote, El Salvador, on the thirtieth anniversary of the largest massacre of the Salvadorean civil war,which occurred at this site, and to make a Mission visit to an isolated mountain parish to celebrate sacraments and to help with fundraising for building a church, from December 9-16, 2011; Served as chaplain on three Mission trips: Seton Hall University DOVE Mission trip to El Salvador, during Winter Break (from January 7-14, 2012), for the ninth year; Seton Hall University FOCUS Evangelization Mission trip to San Miguel and villages in El Salvador, from March 12-17, 2012; and Most Blessed Sacrament Parish, Franklin Lakes, NJ, Evangelization Mission trip to Aldea Infantil San Antonio, San Miguel, El Salvador, from June 24-29, 2012; o Presented the following: Preparing Children for Confession. Lecture, for the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, at Most Blessed Sacrament Friary, Newark, NJ, on February 22, 2012; o Was named to the Board of Trustees of Morris Catholic High School, Denville, NJ, effective summer 2012; and o Served as instructor for the St. Cyril of Jerusalem Program of Catechetical Formation for Adults, based in the Diocese of Bridgeport, CT. As part of this service, Dr. Traflet delivered a video program on prayer, and wrote a chapter for an accompanying manual.

Fortin, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Philosophical Theology: o At the request of Seton Hall University Campus Ministry, has founded and moderates a bi-weekly student meeting of the Catholic lay movement Communion and Liberation on Seton Hall s campus; and o Presented Fatherhood and Priesthood. Formation presentation, to Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, at Most Blessed Sacrament Friary, Newark, NJ, on April 18, Gregory Y. Glazov, D.Phil. (Oxon.), Associate Professor of Biblical Studies and Coordinator of the Great Spiritual Books Program, Institute for Christian Spirituality, has been appointed (along with Reverend Lawrence Frizzell) co-convener of the Catholic Biblical Association Task Force on The Use of the Old Testament in the Gospel of St. John, and has undertaken the job of editing the proceedings of their work over the past half-decade. Reverend Monsignor Gerard H. McCarren, S.T.D., Associate Professor of Systematic Theology and Spiritual Director for the Seminary: o Served as a spiritual director for seminarians participating in the 10-week Summer Program for Spiritual Formation for Diocesan Seminarians, at The Institute for Priestly Formation, Creighton University, Omaha, NE. As a spiritual director, Monsignor McCarren met weekly with each of six seminarians, eight times each, from June 13- August 2, 2012; and o Was reappointed by the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity as a member of the Joint Commission for Dialogue between the Roman Catholic Church and the World Methodist Council for the coming five-year cycle. Annual meetings, held in October, are scheduled for Buenos Aires (2012), Singapore (2013), Rome (2014) and Atlanta, GA (2015).

Wilkins, M.A., M.L.S., Librarian and Adjunct Professor of the Research Seminar, was appointed on June 13, 2012 to serve on the Diversity Committee of the American Theological Library Association. Reverend Pablo T. Gadenz, S.S.L., S.T.D., Associate Professor of Biblical Studies, at the annual Priests, Deacons and Seminarians Retreat, which this year was based on the Gospel of John, and was held at the Franciscan University of Steubenville, OH, from June 18-22, 2012: o Presented two conferences: Bearing Witness to the Word ; and The Three Witnesses: The Spirit, the Water, and the Blood ; and o Preached a homily. Scully, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Undergraduate Theology, presented Jerusalem s Lost Etymology: How Augustine Changed Latin Eschatology. Paper, at the North American Patristics Society Annual Meeting, held in Chicago, IL, from May 24-26, Gregory Y. Glazov, D.Phil. (Oxon.), Associate Professor of Biblical Studies and Coordinator of the Great Spiritual Books Program, Institute for Christian Spirituality, in an effort to help to develop the reading lists and pedagogy for his courses, has been attending Fides et Ratio Institute seminars, aimed at reviving the teaching of Great Spiritual Books in Catholic institutions. These seminars foster a week-long guided discussion with colleagues in Catholic Seminaries and Schools of Theology regarding theological and spiritual classics. Dr. Glazov participated in the Fides et Ratio seminar titled Church Fathers II, at Thomas More College, Merrimack, NH, from June 2-9, Last year s Church Fathers I seminar furnished a good percentage of the titles explored in Dr. Glazov s Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 courses. Reverend W. Jerome Bracken, C.P., Ph.D., Associate Professor of Moral Theology, presented Men, Women and the Family from a Catholic Moral Perspective. Paper, at the Catholic- Jewish Emerging Leadership Conference, sponsored by the International Catholic- Jewish Liaison Committee, and held at the Isabella Freedman Jewish Retreat Center, Falls Village, CT, on June 19, 2012.
