5 God s Message From God s Messenger Lesson 1 Galatians 1:1-10 Why did Paul write a to letter the Galatian Christians? Use the envelope in the picture to answer these questions: What s Inside? 1. What possible connection is there between the writer of the letter and the person to whom it is addressed? 2. What might have been the weather conditions in the place where the letter was written? 3. What may have been the weather conditions as Mrs. James was reading the letter? 4. What might Joel have written about in this letter? 5. Why can t we know for certain why the letter was written? 1

6 1. Read Galatians 1:1,2. On the envelope, fill in the names of the letter s author and its recipients. 2. There were people in Galatia trying to undermine Paul s authority as an apostle, saying that he was sent out by mere human beings. Why was it important for Paul to begin his letter as he did? What did Paul say God had chosen him to do? God had chosen Paul to be an and to share the gospel. 3. Read the following comment and respond. The fact that Paul was an apostle sent by the Lord himself may have had an impact on the first Christians, but I don t see what it has to do with me. 4. Read Galatians 1:3-5. Paul wishes his readers grace and peace. While both words were common greetings of the time, they have much greater meaning when used in a biblical sense. Write the appropriate word after its definition. 5. Paul praised God the Father and God the Son for the gifts of grace and peace. In the chart, write the role that each played in our rescue. Read Galatians 1:6,7. Describe the error the Galatians were committing that astonished Paul. Then use what you have learned from the reading so far to describe what the true gospel is.
