From This To This He has Risen!! Jesus, Our Perfectly Perfect, Perfectly Effectual Sacrifice!
Job 19: For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth. 26And aher my skin has been thus destroyed, yet in my flesh I shall see God, 27whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another.
John 19 1Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged. 2The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head. They clothed him in a purple robe 3and went up to him again and again, saying, Hail, king of the Jews! And they slapped him in the face. The Crucifixion of Jesus So the soldiers took charge of Jesus. 17Carrying his own cross, he went out to the place of the Skull (which in Aramaic is called Golgotha). 18There they crucified him, and with him two others one on each side and Jesus in the middle. 19Pilate had a nonce prepared and fastened to the cross. It read: JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS. 20Many of the Jews read this sign, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and the sign was wriqen in Aramaic, La\n and Greek. 21The chief priests of the Jews protested to Pilate, Do not write The King of the Jews, but that this man claimed to be king of the Jews. 22Pilate answered, What I have wriqen, I have wriqen.
23When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the undergarment remaining. This garment was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bo^om. (see Exodus 28:31) 24 Let s not tear it, they said to one another. Let s decide by lot who will get it. This happened that the scripture might be fulfilled that said, They divided my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment. (see Psalm 22:18) So this is what the soldiers did. 25Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, Woman, here is your son, 27and to the disciple, Here is your mother. From that Nme on, this disciple took her into his home.
The Death of Jesus 28Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, I am thirsty. 29A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and li\ed it to Jesus lips. 30When he had received the drink, Jesus said, It is finished [teleó: to bring to an end, complete, fulfill]. With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. 31Now it was the day of PreparaNon, and the next day was to be a special Sabbath. Because the Jewish leaders did not want the bodies le\ on the crosses during the Sabbath, they asked Pilate to have the legs broken and the bodies taken down. 32The soldiers therefore came and broke the legs of the first man who had been crucified with Jesus, and then those of the other. 33But when they came to Jesus and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. 34Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water. 35The man who saw it has given tesnmony, and his tesnmony is true. He knows that he tells
the truth, and he tesnfies so that you also may believe. 36These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled: Not one of his bones will be broken, (see Exodus 12:46; Num. 9:12; Psalm 34:20) 37and, as another scripture says, They will look on the one they have pierced. (see Zech 12:10) The Burial of Jesus 38Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jewish leaders. With Pilate s permission, he came and took the body away. 39He was accompanied by Nicodemus, the man who earlier had visited Jesus at night. Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy- five pounds. 40Taking Jesus body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen. This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs. 41At the place where Jesus was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid. 42Because it was the Jewish day of PreparaNon and since the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.
John 20 The Empty Tomb 1Early on the first day of the week, while it was snll dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. 2So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don t know where they have put him! 3So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb. 4Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in. 6Then Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, 7as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus head. The cloth was snll lying in its place, separate from the linen. 8Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed. 9(They s\ll did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.)
Jesus Appears to His Disciples 19On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, Peace be with you! 20A\er he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. 21Again Jesus said, Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you. 22And with that he breathed on them and said, Receive the Holy Spirit. 23If you forgive anyone s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven. Jesus Appears to Thomas 24Now Thomas (also known as Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. 25So the other disciples told him, We have seen the Lord! But he said to them, Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.
26A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, Peace be with you! 27Then he said to Thomas, Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doub\ng and believe. 28Thomas said to him, My Lord and my God! 29Then Jesus told him, Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed. The Purpose of John s Gospel 30Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31But these are wri^en that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
Jesus Is Our Perfectly Perfect Sacrifice He was Perfected through Suffering He is our Redeemer AND our Ransom! He Rose from the dead! He took on our Iden\ty so we can receive His Iden\ty!
Jesus was Perfected through... Suffering Hebrews 2:10 For it was fijng for God, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the author of their salva\on through sufferings. John 19 1Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged. 2The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head. They clothed him in a purple robe 3and went up to him again and again, saying, Hail, king of the Jews! And they slapped him in the face. 18There they crucified him, and with him two others one on each side and Jesus in the middle. John 20:25 Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were,
Jesus bore our pain and sickness, we receive His wholeness! Isaiah 53:3-5 3He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering (makob מ כ א וב pains), and familiar with pain (choli ח ל י sicknesses). Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem. 4Surely he took up our pain (choli) and bore our suffering (makob), yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. 5But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquines; the punishment that brought us peace (shalom ש ל ום completeness, soundness, welfare, peace) was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.
Jesus Is Our Perfectly Perfect Sacrifice because... of His suffering Isaiah 53:3-5 (Youngs Literal Transla\on) 3He is despised, and le\ of men, A man of pains, and acquainted with sickness, And as one hiding the face from us, He is despised, and we esteemed him not. 4Surely our sicknesses he hath borne, And our pains he hath carried them, And we we have esteemed him plagued, SmiQen of God, and afflicted. 5And he is pierced for our transgressions, Bruised for our iniquines, The chasnsement of our peace [is] on him, And by his bruise there is healing to us. 2 Corinthians 5:17 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Jesus Is Our Perfectly Perfect Sacrifice because... of His suffering 2 Corinthians 5:17 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness (dikaiosýnē) of God. dikaiosýnē (from 1349 /díkē, "a judicial verdict") judicial approval (the verdict of approval); in the NT, the approval of God ("divine approval").
Jesus Is Our Perfectly Perfect Sacrifice because... He redeemed us Redeem- Defini\on Merriam Webster Dic\onary: 1a : to buy back : repurchase 1b : to get or win back 2: to free from what distresses or harms: as a : to free from cap\vity by payment of ransom b : to extricate from or help to overcome something detrimental c : to release from blame or debt d : to free from the consequences of sin
Jesus Is Our Perfectly Perfect Sacrifice because... He redeemed us Psalm 103 1Praise the LORD, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. 2Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not all his benefits 3who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, 4who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion,... 10he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniqui\es. 11For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; 12as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
AND Jesus is our Ransom Hebrews 9 15For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins commiqed under the first covenant.
Jesus Is Our Perfectly Perfect Sacrifice because... He is our Ransom! Job Or someone may be chastened on a bed of pain with constant distress in their bones, 20so that their body finds food repulsive and their soul loathes the choicest meal. 21Their flesh wastes away to nothing, and their bones, once hidden, now snck out. 22They draw near to the pit, and their life to the messengers of death. 23Yet if there is an angel at their side, a messenger, one out of a thousand, sent to tell them how to be upright, 24and he is gracious to that person and says to God, Spare them from going down to the pit; I have found a RANSOM for them - 25let their flesh be renewed like a child s; let them be restored as in the days of their youth 26then that person can pray to God and find favor with him, they will see God s face and shout for joy; he will restore them to full well- being [tsedaqah :(צ ד קה) righteousness] 27And they will go to others and say, I have sinned, I have perverted what is right, but I did not get what I deserved. 28God has delivered me from going down to the pit, and I shall live to enjoy the light of life.
Jesus Is Our Perfectly Perfect Sacrifice because... of His Resurrec\on! 1 Corinthians 15: For since death came through a man, the resurrecnon of the dead comes also through a man. 22For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. John 20:31 But these are wri^en that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing (present, parcciple, accve) you may have life (zóé spiritual and physical life) in his name. 1 John 4:17 This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus.
Jesus Is Our Perfectly Perfect Sacrifice because... of His Resurrec\on! 2 Kings 5 1Now Naaman (pleasant, delighqul, lovely) was commander of the army of the king of Aram. He was a great man in the sight of his master and highly regarded, because through him the Lord had given victory to Aram. He was a valiant soldier, but he had leprosy. 2Now bands of raiders from Aram had gone out and had taken capnve a young girl from Israel, and she served Naaman s wife. 3She said to her mistress, If only my master would see the prophet who is in Samaria! He would cure him of his leprosy. 4Naaman went to his master and told him what the girl from Israel had said. 5 By all means, go, the king of Aram replied. I will send a leqer to the king of Israel. So Naaman le\, taking with him ten talents of silver, six thousand shekels of gold and ten sets of clothing. 6The leqer that he took to the king of Israel read: With this leqer I am sending my servant Naaman to you so that you may cure him of his leprosy.
7As soon as the king of Israel read the leqer, he tore his robes and said, Am I God? Can I kill and bring back to life? Why does this fellow send someone to me to be cured of his leprosy? See how he is trying to pick a quarrel with me! 8When Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his robes, he sent him this message: Why have you torn your robes? Have the man come to me and he will know that there is a prophet in Israel. 9So Naaman went with his horses and chariots and stopped at the door of Elisha s house. 10Elisha sent a messenger to say to him, Go, wash yourself seven \mes in the Jordan, and your flesh will be restored and you will be cleansed. 11But Naaman went away angry and said, I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of the Lord his God, wave his hand over the spot and cure me of my leprosy. 12Are not Abana and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, beper than all the waters of Israel? Couldn t I wash in them and be cleansed? So he turned and went off in a rage.
13Naaman s servants went to him and said, My father, if the prophet had told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much more, then, when he tells you, Wash and be cleansed! 14So he went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven \mes, as the man of God had told him, and his flesh was restored and became clean like that of a young boy. 15Then Naaman and all his aqendants went back to the man of God. He stood before him and said, Now I know that there is no God in all the world except in Israel. So please accept a gih from your servant. 16The prophet answered, As surely as the Lord lives, whom I serve, I will not accept a thing. And even though Naaman urged him, he refused. Seven- completeness, the finished work of Jesus, our ransom GiHs refused- we cannot buy/earn our salva\on, it s a free gih to us
Jesus Is Our Perfectly Perfect Sacrifice because... He redeemed us Job Or someone may be chastened on a bed of pain with constant distress in their bones, 20so that their body finds food repulsive and their soul loathes the choicest meal.
Jesus Is Our Perfectly Perfect Sacrifice because... of His Suffering, His Redemp\on and His Resurrec\on! Levi\cus 14 1The Lord said to Moses, 2 These are the regulanons for any diseased person at the Nme of their ceremonial cleansing, when they are brought to the priest: 3The priest is to go outside the camp and examine them. If they have been healed of their defiling skin disease, 4the priest shall order that two live clean birds and some cedar wood, scarlet yarn and hyssop be brought for the person to be cleansed. 5Then the priest shall order that one of the birds be killed over fresh water in a clay pot. 6He is then to take the live bird and dip it, together with the cedar wood, the scarlet yarn and the hyssop, into the blood of the bird that was killed over the fresh water. 7Seven \mes he shall sprinkle the one to be cleansed of the defiling disease, and then pronounce them clean. AHer that, he is to release the live bird in the open fields.
Jesus Is Our Perfectly Perfect Sacrifice because... of His Suffering, His Redemp\on and His Resurrec\on! Ephesians 1: I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelanon, so that you may know him beqer. 18I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, 19and his INCOMPARABLY GREAT POWER FOR US WHO BELIEVE. That power is the same as the mighty strength 20he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. 22And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, 23which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.
