Love is present among us this day, Thank You! 3rd Sunday in ordinary time January 21, 2018 Volume 2, Issue #3 Celebrants: Father Victor Ray and Father Martin deporres Wisdom From Father In the homily of Fr. Bel San Luis, SVD, he narrated about a despondent man who said to his mother, I ve stopped going to church for two reasons: I don t like the people and the people don t like me. The mother looked at him and said: My son, you should go back to church for two reasons: you re already 59 years old, and you re the parish priest. Our gospel today tells us about Jesus Christ calling some simple men, mostly fishermen to share the responsibility of gathering the family of God and proclaiming the good news of salvation to each other. These men whom He called were completely unprepared and they did not even belong to any religious groups at that time. According to William Barclay in his commentary on the gospel of St. Mark (1985, p.28) said that they were simple folk. They did not study in some known schools and colleges; they were not drawn from the ecclesiastics or the aristocracy; they were neither learned nor wealthy. They were fishermen. That is to say, they were ordinary people. No one ever believed in the ordinary people as Jesus did. As once George Bernard Shaw said: I have never had any feeling for the working classes, except a desire to abolish them, and replace them by sensible people. A man should never think so much of what he is but as of what Jesus Christ can make of him. As of the twelve, they were challenged by Jesus words to become fishers of men, and so they followed Jesus and wanted to know Him better and preached Him to other people. Later on, they continued His work of salvation whether the people like them or not, much like the dejected and rejected parish priest in the story. Fr. Victor Ray

We have had requests to use this time before Mass for Meditation and Prayer. Please be respectful for this request. Once Mass starts, the Inner Doors will stay open for Security reasons. We are trying to make the Narthex homier for conversations. We have an App for Our Church. Download Instructions and User Guide are available in the Narthex. On the Bulletin Board located in the Narthex, is a list of all Official Registered Members. If you are not on this list, please fill out a Blue Form and place it in the Offertory Plate or give it to an usher. Being a Registered Member entitles you to vote on the Upcoming Constitution, Bylaws, etc. So Please Register. New Page to the Website: has been added. Hospitality Ministry does well with food and snacks but help is needed in the Drinks Departments. If you catch a good price on Soda or other Beverages, we sure could use some. Jonah began his journey through the city, and had gone but a single day's walk announcing, "Forty days more and Nineveh shall be destroyed, " when the people of Nineveh believed God; they proclaimed a fast and all of them, great and small, put on sackcloth. When God saw by their actions how they turned from their evil way, he repented of the evil that he had threatened to do to them; he did not carry it out. Hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church. Jesus said to them, "Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men." Then they abandoned their nets and followed him. He walked along a little farther and saw James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They too were in a boat mending their nets. Then he called them. 13 Special note from the media minister I would like to take this opportunity to give out a Special Thank You for your concern of my well -being. I am so grateful to have friends that care about me. THANK YOU! Let me tell you a little background. I come from a German Family whose Grandfather died at the age of 104 and my Grandmother died at the age of 99. Both my Grandparents worked until very shortly before death. My Grandfather was a farmer with 160 acres and my Grandmother was the School Lunch Lady in the Cafeteria. Both woke up at 4 am and went to bed at 8 pm. Workaholics to the Max. I ve discovered that Living Life, Being Active and Believing in God is why people live long. Sitting in a chair, watching TV constantly, no ambition your number is next (my philosophy). By the way my Palm Reader says my life line is very long. (LOL) Now I have a confession to make. I am involved in a lot of items. To the normal eye it would seem too much of a burden. But, the hardest part of any project is setting it up. Once the project is underway, maintenance is a breeze. The Bulletin now takes me about 15 minutes, the song choices takes me about a half hour only because I search other versions. The Website takes me about 15 minutes. And I ve just started the STOCCC Ministry. Bottom Line, I enjoy what I m doing and hopefully it is benefiting my Church in some way. I m a Workaholic, by no means and if I didn t play with my computer, I would be shopping on line with Amazon and Jon My Partner, would kill me! Another Comment I would like to clarify: Jon and Bill are resembling (%^&* another couple from the past. I ve heard, only because we do too much, or we are into too much. Trust me the difference is, if you would like to take any of our jobs away from us, we would not be angry or disappointed!
