1 Serving the Orlando Catholic Charismatic Renewal THE CHARISMATIC NEWS FALL 2016 I chose you from the world, to go and bear fruit that will last, says the Lord. John 15:16 Do not cage the Holy Spirit Pope Francis Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ. Peace be with you. What an awesome conference we ve just experienced. Truly the Holy Spirit was present, and was felt during this awesome weekend. Our speakers, Bishop Sam Jacobs, Sister Marilyn Minter, Jesse Romero and Valli Leone were a match made in heaven to deliver the word of God to us, Behold I stand at the door and knock, Revelations 3:20. Many have said they experienced healing and this was the best conference yet. To Jesus be the honor and glory. With regards to the hotel, some of you did not have the experience you expected of a hotel of this caliber. We were promised that the hotel renovations were to be completed prior to our conference, and this was not the case. Therefore, we are currently doing our due diligence and research to find a replacement hotel for next year s conference. Our conference speakers will include father Bill Halbing, Deacon Harold Burke Silvers, Caroline Gambale Dirkes, and Valli Leone. The date may change, but, you will be informed well in advance. Please remain in prayer for us as we continue to work on and plan for next year's conference. May the Lord bless you as you continue to walk with and serve him. Sincerely, Vince Maldonado Administrator of Operations, CCRC Do not cage the Holy Spirit, Pope tells massive Rome gathering Pope Francis meets with the Renewal of the Spirit Movement in Rome's Olympic Stadium on June 1, Credit: Daniel Ibáñez/CNA. Rome, Italy, Jun 2, 2014 / 04:35 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- On Sunday afternoon Pope Francis told throngs of Charismatic Catholics to not obstruct the work of the Holy Spirit in evangelizing, but make the adoration of God the foundation of renewal. Go forth into the streets and evangelize, proclaim the Gospel. Remember that the Church was born to go forth, that morning of Pentecost, the Pope said June 1. Let yourselves be guided by the Holy Spirit, with that same freedom. And please, do not cage the Holy Spirit! He addressed 52,000 people from 55 countries who had gathered in Rome's Olympic Stadium for the national convocation of Renewal in the Spirit. Those gathered included two organizations that coordinate the Catholic Charismatic Renewal: International Catholic Charismatic Renewal Services and the Catholic Fraternity of Charismatic Covenant Communities and Fellowships. Continued on page 2 Chairman's Corner: And now a word about evangelization. Our recent 2016 Annual Conference featured speakers who have embraced a Holy Spirit gift which most of us need to be seeking the outpouring of. If you were at the conference you know the gift I am talking about and if you were not there you also are aware that "holy boldness" is not on the top of the spiritual "giftlist". Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, has called the Renewal to task. To stir up the flame and lead, yes lead, the Church, empowered by the Holy Spirit, into battle against an increasingly antagonistic secular society. He is leading us by example, whether associating with sinners, inviting the homeless to dinner, off-the-cuff remarks, etc.,etc.,etc. He is showing us that the only way we can engage the separated, the non-believers, and naysayers is by, well, engaging them where the rubber hits the road. Many people today ask,"where are the prophets?" Pope Francis gives us prophecy in abundance. Blessed Pope Paul VI with Humanae Vitae prophecied to the chagrin of many, nonetheless it is prophecy and we are seeing just how important that prophetic word has been and is. So, likewise, it is that the Servant of Servants is instructing us to be Jesus to a severely fallen world. Continued on page 2

2 Continued from page 1 Pope Francis The event included praise and worship music, spiritual testimonies, and a flash mob event, Vatican Radio reports. Pope Francis said that adoring God is the foundation for renewal and the basis for evangelization, spiritual ecumenism, and attention to the poor and needy. He stressed the need for conversion to the love of Jesus that is life-changing and turns a Christian into a witness to God s love. I hope that you will share with all in the Church the grace of baptism in the Holy Spirit, Pope Francis said. I expect from you an evangelization with the Word of God that proclaims that Jesus lives and loves all humankind. He said he hopes that they will witness to spiritual ecumenism with all Christians of other Churches and communities. May you remain united in the love that the Lord Jesus asks of all for all mankind, and in prayer to the Holy Spirit to reach this unity, necessary for evangelization in the name of Jesus, the Pope continued. Be close to the poor and needy to touch in their flesh the wounded flesh of Jesus. Seek unity in renewal because unity comes from the Holy Spirit and is born of the unity of the Trinity. He especially denounced the danger of splits and infighting. Where does division come from? The devil! Division comes from the devil, Pope Francis said. Flee from internal struggles, please! Teach us not to fight between ourselves over a little more power, he prayed, adding teach us to increasingly love the Church that is our 'team', and to keep our hearts open to receive the Holy Spirit. The Pope also warned against excessive organization. Yes, you need organization, but do not lose the grace of letting God be God! he said. Continued column 2 He urged attendees at the Charismatic gathering to be dispensers of God's grace and not controllers of it. The pontiff then answered questions from priests, young people, families, the sick and the elderly. He told priests to remain close to Christ and to his faithful. He warned young people not to keep their youth locked away in a safe but instead to Bet on great things. He encouraged the sick to imitate Jesus in their difficulties. He praised the elderly s wisdom and memory. Pope Francis prayed that God might grant everyone the holy intoxication of the Spirit that enables us to speak many languages, the languages of charity, always close to those brothers and sisters who need us. Chairman's Corner continued from page 1 The Charismatic Renewal has experienced the outpouring of the Spirit's gifts. We have no laurels to rest on. The gifts are meant to be shared, used, and imparted. Reignite the flames. Make your prayer time extraordinary. Ask, seek, and knock. Praise Him who is the provider of all things. Tell everyone about Him and His Son who has redeemed us. Say yes to the "Holy Boldness" rising up within you. Watch the Holy Spirit set a blaze in the night, make the Earth burn bright. Be the Light of Christ to the World. May God do something new in your life today. Paul E. Avizinis Reflections from the Saints The zealous man desires and achieve all great things and he labors strenuously so that God may always be better known, loved and served in this world. St. Anthony Claret pray for us. 2 Declare his glory among the nations by Greg Trainor Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all the peoples. (1 Chronicles 16:24) We are living in a great time. This is a season of grace and mercy. The Holy Father describes our day as a new springtime for the gospel: God is preparing a great springtime for Christianity, and we can already see its first signs (Redemptoris Missio, 86). The work of preaching the gospel to the nations has seen great progress in recent years, but we have only seen the beginning of what will become a much greater work. A day is coming when we will see conversions in massive proportions among the nations of the world. Just as we saw the freedom that came to preach the gospel in most of the former Soviet Union and the Eastern Block come in just a few short years, so we will see similar openings come in other areas of the world such as Muslim Northern Africa, the Middle East, India, China, and Oceania. When God s time is right, this won t be a difficult or bloody process. It will be a great outpouring of God s love, grace, and mercy. Billions will be made new in Christ. An explosion of Pentecost The 1900 s brought an explosion of Pentecost. The century began with less than one percent of all Christians being charismatic or Pentecostal and ended with one out of every four Christians having a personal experience of Pentecost. Yet, that same century saw a decline in the percentage of the world s population that is Christian! For millions of Christians throughout the world, Pentecost has remained a personal experience. They have received a tremendous personal benefit from this new flow of the Holy Spirit in their lives, but they have failed to recognize that God has brought a new Pentecost to the Church so that we can preach the gospel in the power of the Holy Spirit. Continued on page 3

3 This is the hour that we are living in: a time when every day people like you and me can preach the gospel in the power of the Holy Spirit and demonstrate it to be true by healing the sick and performing miracles in the name of Jesus! The hope of the Gospel We have such a glorious hope to offer the world by preaching the gospel. The gospel offers the greatest hope the world will ever know. It offers life:...i have come that they might have life and have it to the full (John 10:10). When someone accepts the gospel, it brings dramatic results. God promises that they will become born again (cf. John 3:3-7), a new creation (cf. 2 Cor. 5:17), a child of God (cf. John 1:12), more than a conqueror (cf. Rom. 8:37), and an heir to the kingdom of God (cf. Gal. 4:4-7). God also promises that he will move in powerful signs and wonders when we proclaim his word (cf. Acts 4:29-31). It is by the very nature of the gospel and its promises that it will bring dramatic, life changing results. We have no hope greater than the gospel to offer the world. It must be proclaimed! The focus of our family s ministry over the past 19 years has been to proclaim the kerygma, the basic message of the gospel and call people to conversion. Pope John Paul II describes the kerygma as the initial conversion-bringing proclamation of the gospel (Redemptoris Missio, 19). It is the proclamation of the Christ-event, (RM, 16) proclaiming the significance of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. We invite the lost to come to Jesus as their Savior and pray for the sick to be healed in Jesus name. St. Paul says that: My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit s power... Continued in column 2 Whenever we preach the gospel, we demonstrate it to be true with signs and wonders worked in the name of Jesus. By God s grace and the power of his word, we are seeing many come to know Jesus as Savior. Many are receiving the baptism in the Holy Spirit. Mere words cannot describe the sweet presence of the Holy Spirit that descends when the gospel is proclaimed, hearts are opened, and people are restored. Evangelization and the Mission Field There has been a tremendous growth in Catholic charismatic renewal over the past fifteen years in the area of evangelization. All over the world, hundreds of Catholic programs and schools of evangelization have been raised up to teach people how to evangelize. Over the past ten years, we have seen a tremendous growth in the area of mission outreach from ministries and prayer groups in the renewal in North America. Our own work is just a small part of a great work that the Holy Spirit is doing in the world today. Lydia and I were both school teachers. We were a young, married couple with two children in diapers when God called us to the full-time work of preaching his word. A few days before we were to leave on our first trip to preach in prayer meetings, a stranger handed me a check at a prayer breakfast. It was just enough money to pay two bills and buy the gas needed to get to the first meeting. God has continued to lead us and provide as we go forward in his call. He has taken us, one step at a time, to preach his word throughout the US and Canada, Eastern Europe, Russia, Cuba, Trinidad, and West Africa. We have preached in almost every imaginable situation: parish missions, prayer meetings, healing services, drug rehabilitation centers, prisons, jails, bars, city streets, harvest festivals, sports coliseums and farms. Continued in column 3 If I were to sum up 19 years of ministry with one scripture, I would use St. Paul s words to the Corinthians: The kingdom of God is not a matter of talk, but of power (1 Cor. 4:20). We have seen God s power open the eyes of the blind, the ears of the deaf, cause the dumb to speak, cripples to walk, and deliver people from demons. Our family has been involved in mission outreach to Ghana, West Africa since We have been conducting weeklong schools of evangelization, teaching participants to proclaim the gospel in the streets and to pray for healings and miracles. In just the past two years, we have trained more than 950 in these schools. Along with our children, we have preached the gospel in the towns and villages often seeing Muslims and those of traditional religion coming forward to accept Jesus as Savior. In this past year, evangelization school participants worked in conjunction with the 58 young priests that we have trained to preach the gospel in the streets. In four villages, so many non- Christians were baptized, that new Catholic churches had to be established in each village. God is a great God! Let God use you It is a great and glorious work, the work of the gospel, and God wants you to be a part of it. Ask God to use you to proclaim Jesus to the world around you. Ask the Holy Spirit to flow from you in power to anoint you to preach the gospel, heal the sick and perform miracles. If you are willing, God is able to use you! Greg & Lydia Trainor Are Catholic lay evangelists. They have four children. Greg & Lydia founded the Holy Spirit Missionary Association and live in North Palm Beach, FL. 4 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ Peace be with you. We are still planning our pilgrimage to the Holy Land with Father Trevor Nathasingh on January 7 through January 18, I recently went on a this very pilgrimage earlier this year and I can tell you it changed my life. To be able to walk where Jesus walked, have daily mass, even at The Holy Sepulcher, have Bible study in the middle of the Sea of Galilee and to be in Calvary where Jesus was crucified is a trip of a lifetime. You will fly out of New York or Orlando depending on where you reside. Travel is in air-conditioned buses and all your hotels are firstclass, both of which provide internet. All meals including breakfast, lunch and dinner are a feast for a king or queen. Transportation from the airport to the hotel and sites is included as well as luggage transfers. Our guide, is born in Israel, Catholic, and is well-versed in scripture and the history. This is a once-in-a-lifetime trip, the comments from this year's pilgrimage attendees were all very positive; you develop a strong bond with your brothers and sisters in attendance with you during the pilgrimage. Take advantage of this opportunity, you will be forever blessed. Please refer to the flyer of the pilgrimage for information. Sincerely, Your brother in Christ, Vince Maldonado 4
