2 Who is the Holy Spirit? The Third Person of the Trinity (God is 3 in 1) 1. God the Father - the head of the Trinity The originator of the divine plan 2. God the Son - Jesus Christ - the revealer of God The Word made flesh - Our Redeemer, Savior, and Lord 3. God the Holy Spirit - the third person of the Trinity The Spirit of action, power and relationship that accomplishes God s work Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. 3 When does the Holy Spirit come to live in us? At Salvation All Jesus followers have the Holy Spirit in them as God comes to live in us by the Holy Spirit. Jesus breathed on the disciples after the resurrection, (before Pentecost), to receive the Holy Spirit. John 20:22 God, who also has sealed us (seal of ownership) and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee (deposit or down payment). 2 Cor 1:21-22 (also 1 Cor 6:19) And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. Romans 8:9b (No Holy Spirit No relationship with Christ)

Mark 1:8 Jesus The promise - John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit. Righteous Living, Power for Mission, Spiritual Gifts Righteous Living (living Godly lives - holiness) A deeper relationship, commitment, and transformation The Fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5:22-23) Walking in the Spirit (Gal 5:16, 25) Supernatural God enhancement of everything in life. Power For The Mission - Read Acts (It demonstrates this!) But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. (Acts 1:8) Spiritual Gifts - There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them (V4). 1 Cor 12:4-11

Commit, Ask, Seek, Knock, Praise, Worship, Openness Practical Considerations Commit your life fully to Jesus (transfer title) Rom 12:1-2 Pray specifically for the Baptism in the Holy Spirit Ask, seek, and knock in faith believing Jesus wants to give this gift to you Luke 11:9-13 Praise and worship often helps to facilitate receiving Be open to what the Holy Spirit wants to do cooperate Pray out loud - you must make the decision to speak Have others pray with you It is not the work of our minds, but of the Spirit Don t stress or be discouraged relax and let God work God s timing may be different than ours
