The Holy Gospel Matthew 6:7 15 When you are praying, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Pray then in this way: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And do not bring us to the time of trial, but rescue us from the evil one. For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you; but if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. 4 The Prayers of the People The People join in reading the words in bold. Leader: We, the members of the St Francis Youth Groups, on behalf of our parish, offer these prayers to you, Great God of love, in thanksgiving for all our blessings and in particular for the men we celebrate today on Fathers Day. We are most grateful for all men who are close to us, love us and for all they provide for us. We pray, For all fathers in crises, large and small; let them find peace and patience through God to cope with the everchanging demands of parenting. We pray, We pray for the men here at St. Francis who have not raised children in their homes. Let them continue to spread their love to others through fathering help and kindness. We pray, We thank you God, for the relief brought to men and fathers who struggle through war, political strife, natural disaster, poverty and hunger. We ask that you watch over and care for those still struggling, both in the U.S. and abroad. We pray, Be the strength of those in our armed and foreign services, and their families, especially O Connor Dale, Kelly Hall, Gavin Larson, Robert Propst, and Jonathan Zimmerman and all the thousands whose names we do not know. We pray, Help us be a parish of loving hospitality which nurtures faith, hope and love. We pray especially for those in need of healing and wholeness; Jonathan Arentsen, Andrea, Liz (Mary) Bacon, Dorothy Cook, Sophia Cooper, Ceri Falk, John Felando, Rob Fitting, Bill Hill, Mama Hill, Chong Kyun Kim, Marjorie Morris, Seamus Morrison, Karin Peterson and David Pilmer. We pray, We shall be thankful for all the gifts that we have, and may the St Francis parish continue to be blessed through the treasured gifts of our youth and children, and our children s children. We pray, We pray for all who have died. We pray for all who have lost their fathers. Let them receive comfort knowing that their dads are with them in a new heavenly way. Thank you for celebrations like today when we remember fathers and men around the world who give of your love unselfishly. This gift of love and righteousness, scorned by the ones he came to save, Til on the cross as Jesus died the plan of God was satisfied, for every sin on him was laid; here in the death of Christ I stand. And as he stands in victory, sin s curse has lost its grip on me; for I am his and he is mine, bought with the precious blood of Christ. By your will they were created and have their being. From the primal elements you brought forth the human race, and blessed us with memory, reason, and skill. You made us the rulers of creation. 7 Again and again, you called us to return. Through prophets and sages you revealed your righteous Law. And in the fullness of time you sent your only Son, born of a woman, to fulfill your Law, to open for us the way of freedom and peace. By his blood, he reconciled us. By his wounds, we are healed. And therefore we praise you, joining with the heavenly chorus, with prophets, apostles, and martyrs, and with all those in every generation who have looked to you in hope, to proclaim with them your glory, in their unending hymn: Sanctus Iona Community The People stand or kneel as able as the Celebrant continues And so, Father, we who have been redeemed by him, and made a new people by water and the Spirit, now bring before you these gifts. Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ our Lord. On the night he was betrayed he took bread, said the blessing, broke the bread, and gave it to his friends, and said, ʺTake, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.ʺ After supper, he took the cup of wine, gave thanks, and said, ʺDrink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.ʺ Remembering now his work of redemption, and offering to you this sacrifice of thanksgiving, We celebrate his death and resurrection, as we await the day of his coming. Lord God of our Fathers and Mothers: God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; Sarah, Rebecca, Leah and Rachel; God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ: Open our eyes to see your hand at work in the world about us. Deliver us from the presumption of coming to this Table for solace only, and not for strength; for pardon only, and not for renewal. Let the grace of this Holy Communion make us one body, one spirit in Christ, that we may worthily serve the world in his name. Risen Lord, be known to us in the breaking of the Bread. Accept these prayers and praises, Father, through Jesus Christ our great High Priest, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, your Church gives honor, glory, and worship, from generation to generation. Amen. Celebrant And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say Our father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. The Breaking of the Bread The Celebrant breaks the consecrated Bread. A period of silence is kept. Celebrant Alleluia. 8 The Communion of the People All baptized Christians are invited to receive Holy Communion. Please follow the directions of the ushers. Kneeling or standing, each person receives the Bread* in the palm of the right hand, eats, and then guides the cup for a sip of the Wine. If you do not wish to receive or are not yet baptized, we encourage you to come forward to receive a blessing. Simply fold your hands across your chest when you come forward. The clergy will carry Communion to anyone in the congregation who is unable to come forward. Please notify an usher if you wish to be served in your seat. If you have come with a particular prayer concern today, after receiving Communion you may come to the Nason Prayer Chapel to the right of the altar rail where someone will be available to pray with you. *Gluten free Communion wafers are now carried alongside regular wafers at Holy Communion. If you require one of these, simply ask at the Altar rail. Communion Music Come As You Are Brent Helming Post Communion Prayer Celebrant Let us pray. All Eternal God, heavenly Father, you have graciously accepted us as living members of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ, and you have fed us with spiritual food in the Sacrament of his Body and Blood. Send us now into the world in peace, and grant us strength and courage to love and serve you with gladness and singleness of heart; through Christ our Lord. Amen. Sending Forth of the Lay Eucharistic Minister Celebrant We send you out to share this Holy Communion with our brother/sister. People May you be guided by the Holy Spirit as you share this sacrament of Christ s presence.
