1 RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS AS AGENTS OF SOCIAL CHANGE AND TRANSFORMATION. Presented at THE RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS SEMINAR Organized by INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS OF UGANDA AT IMPERIAL ROYALE HOTEL By Rev.. Fr. Dr. Silvester Arinaitwe Rwomukubwe, A.J. 15/02/2018
2 INTRODUCTION This is the first time I am interacting with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda. (CPA) Thank you for inviting me to share with you on the Religious Institutions in Uganda.
3 Definition of Terms Religious : connected with religion or with a particular religion. Institution: A large important organization that has a particular purpose. Religious institutions: are but not limited to churches, mosques, synagogues, temples, nondenominational ministries, international and ecumenical organizations, faith based social agencies and other entities whose principal purpose is the study, practice, or advancement of religion. Internet
4 Definition of Terms Cont d Agent: a person or group whose job is to act for, or manage the affairs of, other people in business. Social: connected with society and the way it is organized Change: to make sb/sth become different Social Change: refers to involvement in activities that improve positively the lives of individuals and communities locally and around the world. Social Change: is a process of shifting attitudes, values and actions to address social problems in a positive way.
5 Definition of Terms Cont d Transformation: a complete change in somebody or something. The way we work has undergone a complete change in the last decade. A marked change in form, nature or appearance.
6 Qualification of a Religious Institution. To qualify as a religious institution you must have an organized collection of belief systems or cultural systems. It must be organized and operated exclusively for religious and charitable purposes. Any earnings above the cost of operating go directly back to better the religious institution.
7 The Functions of a Religious Institution? Religion removes the fear and anxiety; creates relationship between man and the universe; man and God; judgment of right and wrong; preservation of values; create purity and cleanliness, religion creates social solidarity.
8 The Mission of Jesus Christ Jesus came so that he may give life and give it to the full. (John 10:10)
9 The Manifesto of Jesus Christ: The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the Lord s favor has come. (Luke 4:16-18)
10 Christian Religious Institutions Identity The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. Seminaries: Roman Catholic Seminaries, Church of Uganda Seminaries and Uganda Orthodox Seminaries. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released Prisons ministry; Health Centers and Hospitals: Health Center II, Health Center III, Health Center IV, Hospitals.
11 Christian Religious Institutions Identity Cont d that the blind will see, Rehabilitations: Homes and Hope for Disabled, Schools for the Blind, Home of Physically Handicapped Children, Mentally Challenged, Revival Homes, School for the Deaf and Blind, Rehabilitation of Street Children, Special Needs School, Schools for Visually impaired, Homes for Deaf and Dumb Home/Orphanage: Babies Homes, Orphanage Homes, Family Care for Orphans of HIV/AIDS, Vulnerable Children, Aid for orphans and Vulnerable, Children s village.

School Institutions: Pre-Primary Schools, Primary Schools, Secondary Schools, Tertiary and Universities. Charity Homes: Boys and Girls Homes, Providence Home, Foster Home, Sanyu Home.
13 What Outcome Brought good news to the poor - 86% Contributed to education Pre-Primary 2,835. Primary 10,608. Secondary Schools 1,304. Tertiary 200+ Universities 10+
14 Outcome cont d Contributed to Health Health Center II 255+ Health Center III 215+ Health Center IV 11+ Hospitals 45+. Homes for the disabled, Orphans, AIDS/HIV. Babies Homes, Rehabilitation, Street Children. Schools for the blind, Mentally Challenged, Deaf and Dumb. UJCC: Unity, Peace, Good Governance. IRCU: World Peace Accountability
