We confess, we have not loved You the way we ought, and have sinned against You in our words and actions, and have not done what You command. We know the name above all names, the name of Jesus, which means The Lord saves, and Immanuel, God is with us. Yet so often we do not call upon Your name in time of trouble. We have misused Your name and have not called upon Your name as we should to pray, praise, and give thanks. With repentant hearts, we ask You to come, Lord Jesus. God has heard our prayer. God is with us, and Jesus Christ is in our midst as He promised. By His death and resurrection, He forgives our sins and opens the gates of heaven to us. By our Baptism, we have been given new life as children of God. At 3

4 the command and promise of Immanuel, as a called and ordained servant of the Word I forgive you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. People: Amen. Bless our hearts and homes and loved ones: And cause your light to shine upon us. Instill in us the peace of Christmas: So that our hearts may be filled with gladness. You came as the Hope of the world: Illumine our hearts with the gospel of your forgiveness. You, who come from heaven to earth at Christmas: Come to each of us with your blessings. In the coming New Year, bless our country and our church Bless our schools and homes. Above all, bless and strengthen our faith in you: 7
