8 COMMON CHALLENGES AND RECOMMENDATIONS IN FUTURE MISSIONS Challenges Logistical and organizational challenges (TING ANG A) Time constraint. (EAST POKOT) Research on disease prevalence was inaccurate. (EAST POKOT) Shortage of number of medical staff. (EAST POKOT) Logistics, language barriers and lack of test kits for malaria and we were short on medics. The other challenge is the community mind set as the Nasoroot team was rained on following decisions made by the village elder. (EAST POKOT) Missing key drug formulations-lacked antihypertensive medications, inadequate pain medications (THARAKA) Lacked value added services e.g. VCT, cancer screening (THARAKA) Rough terrain and harsh climatic conditions-limited access to some areas (THARAKA) Faithfulness of God..8
9 Recommendations Review of drug formulary list in the next camp to capture missing medications Strengthen medical camp witnessing teams for better collaboration Get mosquito coils/room sprays for the team residence Health education should take a more central role Seek MOH partnership for value added services-vct, immunization, lab etc Organize the witnessing team better in the next camp to maximize the counselling opportunities MEMA staff actively in practice need to participate more in forthcoming camps Expand list of partners in future camps Proper research on disease prevalence, more lab staff and better time management.
