1 Connector Reminder of Regional Gatherings October Fall POWER Team Connecting gatherings -10 a.m. 2 p.m. -topic: Having Our Identity in Christ, not in our Ministry Rev. Donation of $8 per person helps defray expenses (including meal) Round table Discussions at our last regional gatherings gave us valuable insight into the lives of our Veterans who have transitioned out of full-time vocational pastoral or missionary ministry. Some moved into the market-place for work, others into retirement due to health or ministry related reasons. Three statements were discussed: 1. Challenges you faced entering retirement/re-assignment 2. Challenges you are now facing in retirement 3. The joys of retirement

2 In our last two CONNECTORs, we gave you the raw input that was given at the various tables when we met in St. Catherines, Oshawa and Ottawa on statements #1 & #2. Here is what was submitted on the 3 rd statement The joys of retirement/re-assignment Member Happenings Stuart & Jo Anne Lightbody Also FYI, Stuart is now Acting Director of Send International of Canada while the director is on leave for a few months, until November. Stuart and Jo Anne Gerald & Dorothy Hogenbirk Thanks once again for a great job on the Power Team Connector. We head off on our overseas travels tomorrow night and will be in the Arabian Peninsula (via Turkey) by the wee hours of Wednesday morning for their Field Forum and a strategic Field Review. We will continue on to Central Asia with Raul and Donna visiting Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan visiting with our workers and doing strategic reviews in each of these places. We appreciate your prayers for us during this time. We return to Canada on September 10 for various meetings before departing for Europe on October 14. I noticed on your list of birthdays that Gerald s birthday is listed as August 8. His actual birthdate is August 12. Also our Anniversary is August 20 for future reference 38 years this year. Trust you enjoy the remaining days of summer. Bless you!! Dorothy for Gerald too Arnie & francis Reimer just celebrated their 61 st anniversary and replied to our with Thank you, dear saints, for your thoughtfulness. We have lived a wonderful experience of love, unity, oneness and joy for all these years with just enough sorrows and pressures to keep us humble, dependent on God and submissive to His will. We have been truly blessed. We love

3 this stage of life just as we have loved each stage before. Each day we seek to express gratefulness to God for His blessing and care. God bless and keep you on your journey together. In Christ, Arnold and Frances Doug & Julie Tiessen are going into their last week of treatment for Lyme s Disease in Florida. They and their two sons have gone through very hard physical challenges during this treatment. They still need people to contribute financially toward their last week either through their church, Bethany Community Church in St. Catharines or through ************************* What are the joys of retirement you are now experiencing? *Freedom-(whew) from the demands of ministry *Coming through the transition to a place of thankfulness *Opportunity to enter into new contexts for church, denominational participation, for volunteering, community involvement *Time to be with kids/grandkids - There is relief for many retirees in not having schedule and administrative stresses - Retirees do have the option of where to attend church Able to spend time with family (from a missionary perspective) Getting all parts of family together Getting to know grandkids better Preaching to the Chinese Can choose your own ministries Good friends in present church Family who are serving the Lord Freedom to say no or yes to service opportunities God provides for our needs OHIP Open doors that the Lord gives us -closer to home heaven -physical and financial survival -time to relax and enjoy things -togetherness as a couple/family -memories

4 -the possibility of continuing ministry - preaching, teaching, nurturing. Then you can always find a preaching post in a Retirement centre when everything else seems to have dried up! The residents there are the new Unreached People's group in our midst and they love the old hymns. -you can enjoy ministry without responsibility -you are free to choose your involvements -there is now a possibility, and some time, to major on your interests. Less pressure More freedom to schedule things I want to do cf. what I have to do More time to relate to family and others More time to read, to think and learn, to develop new interests and relationships Time for enjoyable and meaningful activities. Able to sleep in. Out from under the critical eye 1. being able to spend time with children and visiting other churches 2. unique perspective - going to different churches, and growing in Christ 3. preaching in different churches and denominations 4. hobbies pursued such as fishing, boating, motorbiking 5. seeing my husband more relaxed and enjoying life We are not controlled by a 9 to 5 job. There is a freedom from the weighty burdens of judgement More time to spend with spouses or close friends. There is great joy in selecting opportunities for service Ministry Opportunities 1. He would love you to be part of the accreditation interviews, mentors.

5 Hello Ministers-At-Large & Retired C&MA Workers in the ECD, I m ing you because we are looking for your help. The Eastern Canadian District is looking for Ordination Mentors in our district and we would like to know if you would like to serve in this capacity. It would involve coming to 3 ordination coaching days a year and during these coaching days you will meet with 3-5 licensed C&MA workers who are currently going through the ordination process. The ordinands would also contact you throughout the year as well and may ask you to reads their papers before submission. I m in need of about 18 people to help coach these ordinands. Would you be willing to come and help? Ordinands have about 2-3 years to complete their ordination so you would be mentoring them along the way. I ve attached a document that outlines some of the expectations of the mentors. The upcoming coaching days are September 22 (Toronto) and September 24 (Ottawa) Right after District Regional meetings which you are also invited to A December Date undetermined weekday Our February Regional Dates dates to be determined Please me back if you would be willing and able to help serve in this area. 6 Robert Charles Falconer Obituary Date of Birth: Monday, August 10th, 1942 Date of Death: Saturday, September 19th, 2015 Funeral Home: Innisfail St. Innisfail, Alberta, CANADA T4G 1S6 Obituary: Early in the morning of September 19, Bob Falconer went home to be with his Lord and Saviour at the age of 73. He ended his journey on earth with his wife Shirley holding his hand, and his daughters by his side. Robert Charles Falconer was born on August 10, 1942 in Swift Current, SK to Charles and Elsa Falconer and grew up in Lethbridge, AB. He met his sweetheart Shirley Stewart at Canadian Bible College (now Ambrose University College) in Regina, SK and they were married in August Bob served as pastor in Portage La Prairie, MB, La Ronge, SK., Winnipeg, MB., Flin Flon, MB., Revelstoke, B.C., and Regina, SK. He also worked as a Counselor in churches and in a practice. He helped many people with his godly wisdom and caring manner. In 2009, Bob and Shirley moved to Innisfail. Bob found much pleasure in spending time with family and friends and building projects in his workshop. He especially loved making clocks. Bob leaves behind many who will miss him dearly: Shirley, his devoted wife of 49 years; daughters Juanita (David) Moorhead, Valerie (Robert) Verity and Tammy (Scott) Leonard; grandchildren Morgan (Steven) Florko, Zachary (Katrina) Moorhead, Dakota Moorhead, Medea & Quinn Leonard and Julia & Adam Verity, who all loved Bompa very much. He is survived by brothers George and Ron (Phyllis) and sister Gael (Don) Matsune as well as many nieces and nephews who were all his favorites. He was predeceased by his sister and brother in law Grace & Bill Irwin as well as sister in law Bernice. The funeral service will be held at the

7 Innisfail Alliance Church on Friday, September 25, 2015 at 1:00pm with interment in Gull Lake, SK at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Ambrose University College in Calgary or to Crossroads Christian Communications in Burlington, ON. 2.Special Request: We will be taping some important Seminars for our 3 rd step of POWER Team Preparing Our Workers Entering Retirement on Monday September 21 st at the National Ministry Center. We need a small audience to just look good and have some people for the presenter Judy Wiebe to speak to. If you would make yourself available for that day we would appreciate it.
