In spite of the disappointment associated with our construction project and the subsequent legal matters resulting from it, God has been good to Central Union. We were blessed to add new souls to the kingdom of God and continue to offer opportunities for discipleship in accordance with The Great Commission - Go ye therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen... as given by Christ in Matthew 28: We continuously strive to teach and live out the precepts of The Great Commandment as given by Christ in Matthew 22: We were also blessed to be able to offer outreach ministries that address what I call the Jesus Test Ministries given in Matthew 25:35 36 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me. For all of that we give God the glory and the praise for what HE has done. I am excited about what 2017 holds for the Central Union family. We got off to a great start on Watch Night when I cast the dye for our 2017 blueprint with the message Next Level Faith. I challenged the CU family to understand that Next Level Faith can only be realized when we decide that pleasing God is more important than pleasing ourselves. The month of January was absolutely Holy Ghost inspired and empowered with the Lord s blessing us each week with the combination of the Sunday morning messages from the Step Up to Next Level Faith series and the Holy Consecration Revival each Wednesday Night. As the hymn writer wrote What a time, what a time, what a time! Then Rev. Dr. Ronald Hill blessed our hearts during the Installation Service on the fifth Sunday with a stirring and spirit -filled message entitled Be Diligent in Your Service from John 9:4. So, I encourage the Central Union family to be Committed, Consistent and Challenged throughout 2017, because God has many more blessings in store for us. I pray each of you will accept the Challenge to Step Up to Next Level Faith and be about the Father s business while it is day and we can still work. Be Better This Year, Pastor Dawsey

3 Congratulations Mayor Williams Mayor Barbara Williams Receives Certificate of Distinction ATLANTA Fort Valley Mayor Barbara Williams received the prestigious Certificate of Distinction award from the Harold F. Holtz Municipal Training Institute at the Georgia Municipal Association s (GMA) annual Mayors Day Conference on Jan. 22. The Harold F. Holtz Municipal Training Institute, a cooperative effort of GMA and the University of Georgia s Carl Vinson Institute of Government, provides a nationally recognized series of training opportunities for elected city officials. To receive a Certificate of Distinction a city official must complete a minimum of 204 units of credit, including at least 72 hours from the required list and the Robert E. Knox, Jr. Municipal Leadership Institute. The training program consists of a series of more than 50 courses. Williams was one of 15 city officials to receive the Certificate of Distinction at the Annual Convention. This is an outstanding achievement, said GMA Executive Director Lamar Norton. We commend Mayor Williams for this accomplishment and for the dedication she s shown in using this valuable resource to become a more effective city official. Based in Atlanta, GMA is a voluntary, non-profit organization that provides legislative advocacy, research, training, employee benefit and technical consulting services to its 521 member cities. We will evangelize our community through personal witnessing, Upward Sports, Sunday School, AWANA, and Bible Study. Worship -To create an atmosphere and to provide opportunities that welcome people and glorify God in accordance with Hebrews 10:25 and John 4:24. We welcome people of all ethnicities, ages, and socio-economic backgrounds, remembering that Jesus instructed us to receive anyone and everyone who desires to come. Discipleship-To provide opportunities for personal growth and spiritual maturity leading to the development of Kingdom Citizens in accordance with 2 Timothy 2:15. We offer systematic discipleship opportunities that strengthen members relationship with God and others. Fellowship -To provide opportunities for Biblical fellowship, mutual encouragement and love for one another in accordance with John 13:34-35 and Acts 2: We encourage all members to get involved in the life of the church and community by regularly planning small group and church-wide activities. Missions (Ministry) -Seeing needs and doing what needs to be done according to Matthew 25: We will continue to serve the present age by offering and enhancing our: Food Bank, Soup Kitchen, Nursing Home, Prison, Visitation, Tutorial Mentoring, Youth Development, Social Justice, and Economic Development Ministries. Dr. Calvin McFadden, Brother Nathaniel Baker At its 23 rd Annual Martin Luther King Scholarship and Awards Luncheon, members of The Gamma Sigma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha named Dr. Josephine D. Davis as Citizen of the Year. In presenting the award, Mr. Ashley Ballard cited the accomplishments Dr. Davis has achieved as an educator, administrator, community leader and activist and as a globally recognized scholar. Former Graduate Dean, Vice President of Academic Affairs and the first African American female to serve as President of a four-year college in the City University System of New York, the second largest system in the U.S. A., Dr. Davis is a seasoned administrator in higher education whose expertise is widely used in such accrediting agencies as SACS, and also by The American Council on Education and Quality Education for Minorities in Washington, DC. Currently, Dr. Davis serves as President of The Fort Valley Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, and Corresponding Secretary of The Fort Valley Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, Sunday School Teacher at The Central Union Missionary Baptist Church and President of the Faculty Senate at Fort Valley State University. In these and other roles, Dr. Davis endeavors to make a difference in the life of citizens in the global community. For example, she secured funding for launching Sister s Keepers, a 10-year breast cancer awareness and prevention program that has educated innumerable women and their supportive family and friends of the importance of being proactive about one s breast health. She continues to direct and participate in STEM awareness programs in area schools where she has facilitated opportunities for Peach County high school students to meet astronauts, visits engineering schools such as Georgia Tech, Auburn and Tuskegee and meet one-on-one with emerging scientists. She has most recently worked with STEM students at Thomson Middle School in Warner Robins. In accepting the award, Dr. Davis shared her recent STEM outreach experiences of working in the global community. Having resided in France and studied at two French universities, Dr. Davis was chosen to lead a delegation to Francophone West Africa( Burkina Fasso, Benin and Senegal) where she worked with internationally famed mathematicians to increase the talent pool of indigenous Africans capable of being competitive at the International Mathematics Olympiad. Her final report was delivered in French. Further as Citizen Ambassador to Korea, Dr. Davis secured scholarships for students to study in top Korean universities and more notably, she was chosen as a Leadership Fellow to facilitate the transition of Fort Hare University in Alice South Africa from a Bantu to a more democratic institution. She worked with the Honorable SME Bengu who later became the first minister of education of South Africa. Adapting a quote of Mother Teresa, Dr. Davis concluded that she is just A little pen in the hand of a loving God writing a love letter to the world through the service she gives. P A G E 6

Mungin We will be celebrating Black History the entire month of February. If you would like to participate, please call Sis. Alecia Johnson at The Youth Choir did an awesome job in rendering Devotional Hymns in January s second Sunday morning service. It is known that music changes from generation to generation, but the old hymns still live on. But one thing that will not change, is the foundation of Jesus Christ. Whether the beat is slow, fast, or the style is traditional or contemporary, the word of God never changes. So, a big thanks to our Youth Choir for wanting to reach back into the musical archives of the old landmark to touch the hearts of the old as well as the young. All together now..
