Are you enduring a trial? We re all in need of the Bible s wisdom as taught at the HOPE Conference. Limited free housing is available from the Faith Fellowship Church family for those who cannot afford otherwise. For each time slot, there are three choices from which to select. IABC classes are offered through the International Association of Biblical Counselors (and can serve to further you towards certification as a biblical counselor). TAC classes are offered through The Addiction Connection. The third choice provides something for everyone, with classes that communicate biblical hope regarding many issues typically encountered. Discipleship (TAC) Frank Snyder Developing Intimacy with God Dan Bulkley WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS Hopeful Counseling The Origin of Addiction The Gotcha Mentality Learn to prioritize God s purposes, with a biblical perspective of guilt and the responsibility of the counselee, with recognition of the necessity of Scripture, prayer, and the Holy Spirit. The Process of Change That Brings Hope Discover how to view guilt and shame from a biblical perspective, and learn God s process for change (5 C s) that eternally move the guilty one from shame to hope. Biblical Counseling and Counseling Theories Consider historical psychological and integrated theories in comparison to biblical counseling from a standpoint of God s Word as sufficient and authoritative. From a book of FIRSTS (beginnings), our goal is to learn about our Creator God and then ourselves. Love of This World Consider various levels of temptation, covering specific examples including: Gambling or reckless spending, Workaholism, Technological Addictions, Eating or not eating, Self-injury, Drugs, and Sexual Immorality. Understand three specific solutions for each level. Women and Ruling Desires Consider examples of how ruling desires are present in our culture; the history of how ruling desires entered our world; and the wisdom of how godly desires are necessary to battle and defeat ruling desires that push women into the insatiable pit of self-glory. Gotcha has been going on for a long time, probably since before it sent Daniel to a lion s den, and Jesus to a cross. Consider how to respond, and, how to stay away from adopting it as our own mindset. Hope for a Discouraged Friend We all encounter discouragement, but sometimes we just walk away, because frankly, we have no idea what to say. Sound familiar? This class can equip and encourage you and those you encounter. Heart-Level Conversations Small talk. Weather. Politics. Or, we dig deep and discuss our homes and workplaces. But ultimately, what kind of conversation really matters? Consider a biblical view of conversation.

4 Hope in Trials and Suffering Family Dynamics in Addiction Responding to Complaints Find out how to offer hope based on a Biblical perspective of the origins of trials, while considering responses to trials and learning of resources for those in trials. Hope Through Forgiveness Learn why forgiveness matters, a biblical definition of forgiveness, 4 promises of forgiveness, the dangers of not forgiving biblically, and the difference between attitudinal and transactional forgiveness. Hope for the Fearful, Worried, and Anxious Discover the differences between fears that are right and fears that are wrong. Define worry and gain a biblical perspective on worry. Learn keys to overcoming sinful fear and worry. In an introduction to addictionproof parenting, it s important to remember that addictive thinking starts a lot younger than we realize. The church has authority and responsibility to teach families, and parents have authority and responsibility to teach children. Children are commanded and responsible to obey parents. Divine Intervention: Hope and Help for Families and Friends The goals are not recovery but transformation, NOT a better person, but transformation into the image of Christ, in discerning between unwilling unrepentant and willing repentant. Learn when and how to intervene. From Slavery to Freedom: Taking Off the Handcuffs Consider the world s approach and best ideas vs. God s Word. Understand that language is not neutral, calling sin a disease will never bring freedom. Understand why it is so important that when the church calls people to Jesus we must use Biblical words. Ever have a chronic complainer in your life? Or, maybe you are one and have never faced it. This class will consider how the Bible teaches us to respond to complainers (and how to preach to our own minds!). Homosexuality is Here: Now What? There s no denying that homosexuality is here. What is the first step to correcting this dilemma in the church and becoming wise enough to be able to minster to them? Dealing with Entitlement Thinking in Our Culture This class will look at the best ways to counter the entitlement mindset so prevalent in today s culture. Hope Through Dealing with Guilt Understand guilt, the price tags for unresolved guilt, and how to deal with guilt thoroughly and biblically. Recognize when guilt is felt incorrectly, and why some feel no guilt. Unwilling Addicts vs Willing Addicts A case study and a consideration of genuine brokenness. Gain a tool to help you discern evidence of repentance. Emotions & Feelings (for women) It s easy to view our lives through the grid of experience and emotion, even elevating them above the absolute truth of God s word. What is the biblical purpose for emotions and feelings? How can we use them for God s glory? Case Study The Heart of Addiction: Idolatry Discipleship Video analysis through an example of the biblical counseling process. Consider the root problem behind addictive or destructive behaviors, and how the Bible describes and prescribes hope for addictions. Discipleship is Jesus mandate and promise for all of us! Christians are not lone rangers; we are disciples living in community with other disciples. A helpful class to bring that truth to reality in your life.

5 Hope for the Short-Fused The Heart of Change: Hope Diagrams over Coffee Anger can turn us into screaming hulks, ruin our health, and destroy precious relationships, Become aware of common faulty perceptions of anger, and learn how to view anger biblically by using its energy to attack problems. Ministering Hope to Those in Sexual Sin Study the breeding grounds and enhancers of sexual temptation that lead to disobedience, with the inevitable result of death. Learn how to minister hope regarding preventing and overcoming sexual sin. Come to understand where addictions are birthed and fueled. Consider how idolatry grows through the consummation of desire, and understand the place of the heart in transformation. How Can I? Discipleship Stop sending those whom God is transforming to therapies that don t recognize God! The church can and must learn how to embrace and disciple in tough situations. Most of us remember things more when we can see them. Enter the catchy diagram! Be prepared to reinforce important biblical truths with quick and easy diagrams that can be scribbled on any coffee shop napkin. Developing Intimacy with God The deepest longing of our hearts can only be satisfied by the One who created us with that longing.
