The Blessed Sacrament is exposed during the praying of the Rosary. We pray the Rosary as Mary asked while adoring her beloved Son. Late one night, a burglar broke into a house he thought was empty. He tiptoed through the living room but suddenly he froze in his tracks when he heard a loud voice say: Jesus is watching you! Silence returned to the house, so the burglar crept forward again. Jesus is watching you, the voice boomed again. The burglar stopped dead again. He was frightened. Frantically, he looked all around. In a dark corner, he spotted a bird cage and in the cage was a parrot. He asked the parrot, Was that you who said Jesus is watching me? Yes, said the parrot. The burglar breathed a sigh of relief and asked the parrot: What s your name? Clarence, said the bird. That s a dumb name for a parrot, sneered the burglar. What idiot named you Clarence? The parrot replied: The same idiot who named the Pit Bull, Jesus. 4 UNDERSTANDING TODAY S READINGS (In order to understand God s love, we need to understand and ponder what He says) Genesis 18:1-10a for the sake of those ten, I will not destroy it. The message in today s readings is: Persistence! In the Genesis reading, Abraham shows us that we must ask God for his favors again and again because God will never abandon us when we seek his mercy. If our sins are forgiven when we ask for mercy, will God abandon us if we sin again? Abraham, an inveterate negotiator, showed that we can come to God again and again, because God knows what is in our hearts. We are the only creatures born with free will, with the ability both to know right from wrong and to choose between right and wrong. He knew our humanity would challenge us every day. Can we count on God to welcome us back when we turn toward him in repentance? Abraham showed us in today s reading that God will not destroy us if we are among the just who recognize our sins and repent. When we pray to God, we can take Abraham's example to heart. Pray diligently, recognize God's will, and persist in prayer, whenever we look to God, for any reason, grand or insignificant. Colossians 2: he brought you to life, obliterating the bond against us...nailing it to the cross... Is there anyone in scripture who is more persistent than Paul? Again, Paul is reprimanding the new Christians of Colossus for placing such importance on circumcision. Paul recognized that many considered being uncircumcised as a transgression against God. He put that belief to rest by reminding them that Christ s death and resurrection forgave all transgressions. The bondage in which we were held before Christ rose from the dead was removed nailed to the cross by Christ. Paul drove home the lesson that circumcision no longer mattered. The sins of our flesh no longer mattered. The world was made new when we were reconciled to God through Christ s death on the cross. In the greater scheme of things, we only need Christ. In him, we are reconciled to God, united with God. That should be our primary focus. Salvation comes through a relationship with the Risen Christ. Today s Psalm: 138 Lord, on the day I called for help, you answered me. Luke 11: how much more will the Father in heaven give...to those who ask him? Ask God! How should a disciple ask the Father for his kingdom? Constantly! And with complete confidence! Jesus used the parable of the Tired Friend and analogies of food to make his point. If a friend would not refuse us if a parent would not refuse to feed his child how much more confident can we be that our Father in heaven will listen to our prayers? When Jesus answered his disciples request, "Teach us to pray," Jesus taught his followers, not just how to pray, but how to live as Christians. Ask, seek, knock for the kingdom. If God is good to all his sinful creatures, how much more will he bless his children? He will give them his power and his presence; he will give his children the Holy Spirit! Prayer is active trust in God, and the power of prayer affects us. It reminds us that we have a personal relationship with God. We show our faith in God when we speak to him through prayer asking for small things and great gifts. Will we risk everything in prayer? Will we beg God for his Kingdom? Ask God constantly! Seek unceasingly from God! Knock confidently on heaven s door!
