A Week of Waiting A New Beginning Introduction: To help you fulfill your commitment to participate fully in this historic event of our church, the following material has been developed. Please take the time today to read through it. This in effect becomes your road map and instructions. It is my firm belief that this event has the potential to be the most significant life-changing time in the history of our church. Our efforts rise or fall on whether or not we are doing God s Will, God s Way and in God s Time. These are critical days in which we are making critical decisions and dealing with critical situations. Clearly, we need God s blessing. It is my prayer that God will send a genuine revival and that it will begin with you and me and that God will be pleased to use our efforts this week to accomplish it for His glory. As we together seek God s face and look to the future, there is no limit to what God can do through us for His Kingdom! Today, we start a new chapter in the history of Berean Baptist Church. What a grand time to be part of what God is doing! What a privilege to be in this together! The hymn writer said it well when he wrote: Hallelujah, Thine the Glory! Hallelujah, Amen! Hallelujah, Thine the Glory! Revive us again. With love Your Fellow Servant, Pastor Mike 1

Purpose: 1. Time of cleansing when upon prompting from the Spirit of God there is confession with repentance by the grace of God that leads to genuine revival both personally and corporately. 2. To create an environment where we are intensely sensitive to the Spirit for both conviction and led at all levels in our assembly. Schedule: January 6-13, 2019 Format: This is primarily an individual experience. This daily guide has been developed to aid you in your time of devotions with God. The potential for growth and blessing during this week is not limited by God, for His arm is not short (Numbers 11:23) nor His desires for us small (Ephesians 3:20). It is limited, however, by our willingness to participate with a sincere heart (Hebrews 10:22). The promise is that if we will draw near to God, He will draw near to us (James 4:8). The challenge is to each of us as individuals. E.M. Bounds said, Prayer is not preparation for the battle; it is the battle. This week, Pastor Mike and the leadership of our church are calling us all to prayer. The Call to Prayer, George Barna, one of today s most astute observers of trends in church and society has written, was the battle cry of the congregation: it rallied the troops. So the call is to do battle. There is a spiritual battle taking place (Ephesians 6:10-18). JOIN US! Jesus said He is building His church and the gates of Hell cannot hold up under our attack (Matthew 16:18). This week, we are taking back ground too long controlled by the enemy Satan! (Ephesians 4:27) 2

PROCEDURES: Prayer: Two prayer techniques are encouraged this week. The first is the A.C.T.S. method (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving and Supplication). Note that each day Sunday through Wednesday has one of these as a prayer focus. You can use the acrostic as a guide any time. The second method is the prayer of Scripture. This is when you use the Scripture as a guide and you allow the Holy Spirit to direct your thinking praying by the content of the passage. For example when you read Matthew 6:33&34, But seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. You may want to pray: Lord, forgive me for my divided loyalty. So often I seek my own kingdom and focus my attention and energy on earthly, temporary things rather than eternal heavenly things of your Kingdom. Help me to understand your righteousness. As a sinner, I drift toward sin and rebellion. Please Lord, help me to become as repulsed and sensitive to sin as you are. Help me by faith to trust you to meet my physical needs. Help me to really know what I need and distinguish from what I want. Help me to trust you so that I do not fret about tomorrow. Forgive my self-centered lack of faith in that I am all too often preoccupied with things to the point that I do not enjoy you, Heavenly Father, and I do not desire to serve and love you as I want to. Real life is hard and there will be trouble. Thank you for knowing that and providing for me when the time comes. Forgive my impatience and whining. Journaling: This is a technique used by many men and women of God. It is when you write down your thoughts and feelings as you read and meditate on the Scripture and as the Holy Spirit impresses something to you. You might write down questions that you don t want to forget and things for which you are caused to be thankful. As you seriously start to spend time with God, you will often find that Satan will seek to distract you by bringing things to your mind that you need to do. Write these down as they come. This will free you up to stay focused during your time with God. When you are finished, you will have an excellent to do list to tackle later. Time and Place: Realize Satan, the enemy, does not want you to do this. Satan knows that the real power to live the Christian life is found in prayer (note the pattern of Jesus). Therefore, Satan will use any and every means to distract and discourage you. The best way to deal with this is to resist the devil (James 4:7) by exercising discipline. This means, set a time and place when you have the most control of your life and when you are at your best. For most of us that is early in the day, for once we get started it is very difficult to slow down and give God the time you want. By faith, take a step toward God by even getting up a half hour earlier. Two things will happen Satan will up his attacks and Jehovah God will provide and enable. 3

Watch out for discouragement! If you don t meet your desired goal one day, don t quit pick it up the next day (Galatians 6:9). For many of us this may be a new adventure of faith. Don t demand too much of yourself, but neither should you sell yourself and our God short. Time is a precious commodity. God has told us to make the most of every opportunity because the days are evil (Ephesians 5:16). Determine by the grace of God to give Him quality time and enough of it to do the task well. This will vary due to circumstances. It may mean that you divide the task into parts and spread it out over the day. The key is that you determine to do this for the glory of God. Praying on the Armor of God : We are commanded to put on the full armor of God. How do we do this? Certainly it is an act of faith that is spiritual rather than physical. It can be made more deliberate and potentially effective if we consciously, methodically do it each day. Following is an example of how to do this. This was developed by one of Pastor Mike s Seminary Professors, Dr. Victor Matthews. It is only an example. However, it is a good place to start and for those of us to whom this is totally new, it can be a very helpful guide. Warfare Prayer Heavenly Father, I bow in worship and praise before You. I cover myself with the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ as my protection. I surrender myself completely and unreservedly in every area of my life to You. I take a stand against all the workings of Satan that would hinder me in my prayer life. I address myself only to the True and Living God and refuse any involvement of Satan in my prayer. Satan, I command you, in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, to leave my presence with all of your demons. I bring the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ between us. Heavenly Father, I worship You and give You praise. I recognize that You are worthy to receive all glory and honor and praise. I renew my allegiance to You and pray that the Blessed Holy Spirit would enable me in this time of prayer. I am thankful Heavenly Father, that you have loved me from past eternity and that you sent the Lord Jesus Christ into the world to die as my substitute. I am thankful that the Lord Jesus Christ came as my representative and that through Him You have completely forgiven me; You have adopted me into Your family; You have assumed all responsibility for me; You have given me eternal life; You have given me the perfect righteousness of the Lord Jesus Christ so I am now justified. I am thankful that in Him You have made me complete and that You have offered Yourself to me to be my daily help and strength. Heavenly Father, open my eyes that I might see how great You are and how complete Your provision is for this day. I am thankful that the victory the Lord Jesus Christ won for me on the Cross and His Resurrection has been given to me and that I am seated with the Lord Jesus Christ in the heavenlies. I take my place with Him in the heavenlies and recognize by faith that all wicked spirits and Satan himself are under my feet. I declare, therefore, that Satan and his wicked spirits are subject to me in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ. I am thankful for the Armor You have provided. I put on the Girdle of Truth, the Breastplate of Righteousness, The Sandals of Peace and Helmet of Salvation. I lift up the Shield of Faith against all the fiery darts of the enemy; and I take in my hand the Sword of the Spirit, the Word of God. I choose to use 4

Your Word against all the forces of evil in my life. I put on this Armor and live and pray in complete dependence upon You, Blessed Holy Spirit. I am grateful Heavenly Father that the Lord Jesus Christ spoiled all principalities, and powers and made a show of them openly and triumphed over them in Himself. I claim all that for my life today. I reject all the insinuations and accusations and the temptations of Satan. I affirm that the Word of God is true and I choose to live today in the light of God s Word. I choose, Heavenly Father, to live in obedience to You and in fellowship with Yourself. Open my eyes and show me the areas of my life that do not please You. Work in me to cleanse me from all ground that would give Satan a foothold against me. I do in every way stand into all that it means to be your adopted child and I welcome all the ministry of the Holy Spirit. By faith and in dependence upon You, I put off the old man and stand into all the victory of the Crucifixion where the Lord Jesus Christ provided cleansing from the old nature. I put on the new man and stand into all the victory of the Resurrection and the provision He has made for me to live above sin. Therefore, today I put off the old nature with its selfishness and I put on the new nature with its love. I put off the old nature with its fear and I put on the new nature with its courage. I put off the old nature with its weakness and I put on the new nature with its strength. I put off the old nature with all its deceitful lusts and I put on the new nature with its righteousness, purity and honesty. In every way I stand into the victory of the Ascension and Glorification of the Lord Jesus Christ, whereby all the principalities and powers were made subject to Him. I claim m y place in Christ as victorious with Him over all the enemies of my soul. Blessed Holy Spirit, I pray that You would fill me. Come into my life, break down every idol and cast out every evil foe. I am thankful, Heavenly Father, for the expression of Your will for my daily life as You have shown me in Your Word. T herefore, claiming all the will of God for today. I am thankful that You have blessed me with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. I am thankful that You have begotten me unto a living hope by the Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. I am thankful that You have made a provision so that today I can live filled with the Spirit of God, with love and joy and peace, with long-suffering, gentleness and goodness, with meekness, faithfulness and self-control in my life. I recognize that this is Your will for me and I therefore reject and resist all the endeavors of Satan and his wicked spirits to rob me of the will of God. I refuse in this day to believe my feelings and I hold up the Shield of Faith against all the accusations and distortion and insinuations that Satan would put into my mind. I claim the fullness of the will of God for my life today. In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ I completely surrender myself to You, Heavenly Father, as a living sacrifice. I choose not to he conformed to this world. I choose to be transformed by the renewing of my mind, and pray that You would show me Your will and enable me to walk in all the fullness of Your will today. I am thankful, Heavenly Father, that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God, to the pulling down of strongholds, to the casting down of imaginations and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and to bring every thought into obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, in my own life today I tear down the strongholds of Satan and smash the plans of Satan that have been formed against me. I tear down the strongholds of Satan against my mind, and I surrender my mind to You, Blessed Holy Spirit. I affirm, Heavenly Father, that You have not given me the spirit of fear but of power and of love and of a sound mind. I break and smash the strongholds of Satan formed against my emotions today and I give my emotions to You. I smash the strongholds of Satan formed against my will today; I give my will to You, and choose to make the 5

right decisions of faith. I smash the strongholds of Satan formed against my body today, I give my body to You recognizing that I am Your temple. I rejoice in Your mercy and goodness. Heavenly Father, I pray that now and through this day You would strengthen and enlighten me, show me the way Satan is hindering and tempting and lying and distorting the truth in my life. Enable me to be the kind of person that would please You. Enable me to be aggressive in prayer and faith. Enable me to be aggressive mentally to think about and practice Your Word, and to give You Your rightful place in my life. Again I cover myself with the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ and pray that You, Blessed Holy Spirit, would bring all the work of the Crucifixion, all the work of the Resurrection, all the work of the Glorification, and all the work of Pentecost into my life today. I surrender myself to You. I refuse to be discouraged. You are the God of all hope. You have proven Your power by resurrecting Jesus Christ from the dead, and I claim in every way this victory over all Satanic forces in my life. I pray in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ with thanksgiving. Amen. -Victor M. Matthew Hindrances to Prayer: Sin in your life - Psalm 66:18 Praying outside the will of God - James 4:2,3 Selfish praying - James 4:2,3 Unwillingness to forgive - Mark 1:24-26 It is quite likely that at some point in the week God will speak to you about forgiveness. Certainly we will continually rejoice in that we are forgiven - new creatures in Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians5:17). It is also a command that you "forgive each other, just as in Christ, God forgave you" (Ephesians4:32). This can be perhaps the most difficult command God has given to us. This is true primarily because we find it so hard to not demand payment for wrongs done. Remember the Lord says that vengeance is His and He will repay (Romans 12:19). Charles Stanley in his book Forgiveness, gives the following counsel relative to forgiving others: I. Understand that forgiveness is not: - Asking God to forgive the person who hurt you. - Asking God to forgive you for being angry or resentful against the person who offended you. - Justifying, understanding, or explaining why the person acted toward you as he or she did. Just forgetting about the offense and trusting time to take care of it. - Denying that you were really hurt; after all there are others who have suffered more. 2. Understand that it is often unwise to forgive face to face. This tends to make the other person feel "put down" and make you look holier-than-thou. 6

3. Select a time and place when you can be alone for a season of time. 4. Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to bring to your mind all the people you need to forgive and the events you need to forgive them for. 5. Make a list of everything the Holy Spirit brings to your mind, even if it seems trivial to you. (Do not rush through this step; allow the Holy Spirit all the time He needs to speak to you.) 6. Take two chairs and arrange them facing each other. Seat yourself in one of the chairs. 7. Imagine that the first person on your list is sitting in the other chair. Disclose everything you can remember that the person has done to hurt you. Do not hold back the tears or the emotions that accompany the confessions. 8. Choose by an act of your will to forgive that person once and for all time. You may not feel like being forgiving. That's all right. Just do it and the feelings will follow. God will take care of that. Do not doubt what you have done is real and valid. 9. Release the person from the debt you feel is owed you for the offense. Say, "You are free and forgiven. 10. If the person is still a part of your life, now is a good time to accept the individual without wanting to change aspects of personality or behavior. 11. Thank the Lord for using each person as a tool in your life to deepen your insight into His grace and conforming you to the image of His Son. 12. Pray. This is a suggested prayer to pray as you "talk" to each person: Because I am forgiven and accepted by Christ, I can now forgive and accept you, unconditionally in Christ, I choose now to forgive you, no matter what you did to me. I release you from the hurts (take time to name the hurts) and you are no longer accountable to me for them. You are free! 13. When you have finished praying through the hurts you have suffered, pray this prayer of faith: Lord Jesus, by faith, I receive Your unconditional love and acceptance in the place of this hurt, and I trust You to meet all my needs. I take authority over the enemy and in the name of Jesus, take back the ground I have allowed Satan to gaining my life because of my attitude toward. Right now I give this ground back to the Lord Jesus Christ to whom it rightfully belongs. 7

DAY 1 SUNDAY Prayer Focus: ADORATION Tell the Lord how much you appreciate Him because of His great love for you. Mention ways in which He has shown His love recently and in the past. Attribute of God: LOVING Questions & Interactions on this Attribute: Is it important that God is loving? Why? What would God be like if He were not loving and h o w would that change my relationship and/or confidence in Him? Tell Him how this makes you feel. Confident? Secure? Special? Accepted? How have I seen God's love displayed in my life? Self-Examination: Ask the Lord to show you anything that is unloving or displeasing to Him in your life, or that still needs to be confessed. Claim I John 1:9. If necessary go to any person with whom you need to make things right. Key Passages: Psalm 86:8-13; 139:13-18 Psalm 86:8-13 There is none like you among the gods, O Lord, nor are there any works like yours. All the nations you have made shall come and worship before you, O Lord, and shall glorify your name. For you are great and do wondrous things; you alone are God. Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name. I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart, and I will glorify your name forever. For great is your steadfast love toward me; you have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol. Psalm 139:13-18 For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them. How precious to me your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! If I would count them, they are more than the sand. I awake, and I am still with you. 9

Prayer Journal Write down whatever the Lord may be showing you. (Am I showing/modeling this attribute of God to others? Is there something I need to correct? To add to my activites?) Do this at whatever point He shows you something. What Do I Sense the Lord is Saying to Me? Thanksgiving: Thank the Lord for His help in the previous day. Be specific. Thank Him for His great salvation and all it cost Him. Put On God's Armor; Give Myself and My Day to Him Put on the armor of God, preferably out loud. (See Introductory Material and Day 1 on how to do this). Be certain to ask the Lord to help you keep every thought under His control, to be able to recognize the voice and attacks of the enemy and to resist them in His power. Ask that He be glorified in this day. Give your time to the Lord, trusting that if something interferes with your schedule that He has something better to do with your time for that part of the day. Ask for His peace to rule your day. Closing Thanks and Praise: Close with a time of simply expressing what is in your heart and giving thanks to the Lord for all He has and is doing for you, what you are learning, how you are feeling toward Him and others, positive changes you are seeing and His faithfulness, to mention a few. 20 DAY 4 WEDNESDAY Prayer Focus: SUPPLICATION Supplication is in two parts: 1) Intercession for others and 2) Requests for myself Attribute of God: WISE, GOOD AND TRUSTWORTHY Questions & Interactions on this Attribute: Is it important that God is wise, good and trustworthy in His guidance? Why? What would my life be like if I couldn t trust God s guidance? What if He were willing to guide me, but was not always trustworthy or loving or did not know everything or was not perfect? How would I feel about any guidance He offered under those circumstances? Tell the Lord how important it is to you that you can receive His expert guidance? Where have I seen God s guidance recently in my life? Self-Examination: Is there any unconfessed sin? Is there any way I am rejecting or not seeking God s guidance in my life? Key Passages: Psalm 32:1-11; Isaiah 48:17 Psalm 32:1-11 Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity and in whose spirit there is no deceit. For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer. I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, I will confess my transgressions to the Lord, and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Therefore let everyone who is godly offer prayer to you at a time when you may be found; surely in the rush of great waters, they shall not reach him. You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with shouts of deliverance. Selah. I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you. Be not like a horse or a mule, without understanding, which must be curbed with bit and bridle, or it will not stay near you. Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the Lord. Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, O righteous, and shout for joy, all you upright in heart! Isaiah 48:17 Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you in the way you should go. 18

DAY 5 THURSDAY Prayer Focus: GOD S REQUIREMENTS Request a closer, deeper walk with God Attribute of God: HOLY, PURE, RIGHTEOUS Questions & Interactions on this Attribute: Is it important that God is holy, pure and righteous? Why? How would I feel if He were sinful like me, or impure? Could I accept for an unholy God to judge me? How would His righteousness impact my worship of Him? Where have I seen God s holiness, purity and righteousness? Self-Examination: Is there any unconfessed sin? Any compromise of God s standards and values? Key Passages: I Peter 1:16; Psalm 101 I Peter 1:16...since it is written, You shall be holy, for I am holy. Psalm 101 I will sing of steadfast love and justice; to you, O Lord, I will make music. I will ponder the way that is blameless. Oh when will you come to me? I will walk with integrity of heart within my house; I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless. I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me. A perverse heart shall be far from me. I will know nothing of evil. Whoever slanders his neighbor secretly I will destroy. Whoever has a haughty look and an arrogant heart I will not endure. I will look with favor on the faithful in the land, that they may dwell with me; he who walks in the way that is blameless shall minister to me. No one who practices deceit shall dwell in my house; no one who utters lies shall continue before my eyes. Morning by morning I will destroy all the wicked in the land, cutting off all the evildoers from the city of the Lord. 21

DAY 6 FRIDAY Prayer Focus: WHO GOD IS Attribute of God: MAJESTIC, GLORIOUS, AWESOME Questions & Interactions on this Attribute: Is it important that God is majestic, glorious and awesome? Why? Does this enhance my ability to worship Him? What if He looked just like man? Would He seem like God to me as I understand Him today? Do I have a good perspective of God s glory and majesty, or has He been distorted by human relationships or unfounded fears of Him? Self-Examination: Is there any unconfessed sin? Any sexual sin either physically or in my mind? Key Passages: Psalm 8; Exodus 15:11; Nehemiah 9:32a; Psalm 76:4 Psalm 8 O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babies and infants, you have established strength because of your foes, to still the enemy and the avenger. When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet. All sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas. O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! Exodus 15:11 Who is like you, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders? Nehemiah 9:32a Now, therefore, our God, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who keeps covenant and steadfast love... Psalm 76:4 Glorious are you, more majestic than the mountains full of prey 24

DAY 7 SATURDAY Prayer Focus: GOD IS OUR REFUGE Attribute of God: PEACE GIVER Questions & Interactions on this Attribute: Is it important that God is a giver of peace? Why? What if He withheld His peace when I asked for it? Or never gave it? What if had to go through difficult times without His peace? In what ways have I experienced God s peace when I should have been upset? Self-Examination: Is there any unconfessed sin? Do I worry about things and not fully trust the Lord? What things or wrong thinking do I allow to take God s peace from me? What do I need to stop worrying or fretting about now? Key Passages: Psalm 11; John 14:27; II Thessalonians 3:16; Proverbs 3:5-8 Psalm 11 In the Lord I take refuge; how can you say to my soul, Flee like a bird to your mountain, for behold, the wicked bend the bow; they have fitted their arrow to the string to shoot in the dark at the upright in heart; if the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do? The Lord is in His holy temple; the Lord s throne is in heaven; his eyes see, his eyelids test the children of man. The Lord tests the righteous, but his soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence. Let him rain coals on the wicked; fire and sulfur and a scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup. For the Lord is righteous; he loves righteous deeds; the upright shall behold his face. John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. II Thessalonians 3:16 May the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all. Proverbs 3:5-8 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones. 27

DAY 8 SUNDAY Prayer Focus: MY HEART FOR GOD Submit yourself to God and seek to know the mind and heart of God. Attribute of God: MERCY AND GRACE Questions & Interactions on this Attribute: Is it important to have a God who is loving, forgiving, faithful, a competent guide, holy, pure, righteous, majestic, glorious, awesome and a peace-give and all so much more? Is this a God you would want to get to know intimately? Is this a God you could trust and submit to? Self-Examination: I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 1:1-2 Key Passages: PSALM 42:1-11 Psalm 42:1-11 As the deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? My tears have been my food day and night, while they say to me all the day long, Where is your God? These things I remember, as I pour out my soul: how I would go with the throng and lead them in procession to the house of God with glad shouts and songs of praise, a multitude keeping festival. Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God. My soul is cast down within me; therefore I remember you from the land of Jordan and Hermon, from Mount Mizar. Deep calls to deep at the roar of your waterfalls; all your breakers and your waves have gone over me. By day the Lord commands his steadfast love, and at night his song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life. I say to God, my rock: Why have you forgotten me? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy? As with a deadly wound in my bones, my adversaries taunt me, while they say to me all the day long, Where is your God? Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God. 30
