4 What God s almighty pow r hath made His gracious mercy keepeth; By morning glow or evening shade His watchful eye ne er sleepeth; Within the kingdom of His might, Lo! All is just and all is right: To God all praise and glory. Peace Forfeited There is no peace, says the LORD, for the wicked. (Isaiah 48:22) All We Like Sheep All we like sheep have gone astray, Each of us turned to his own way; Out in a world so dark and cold, Far from safety, far from the fold. Send us a Shepherd, send us a Lamb, Send a Redeemer; O, great I AM, Though we re unworthy, Lord by Your grace, Send us a Savior to die in our place. For we all have sinned, we re the seed of the fall: And the price must be paid once and for all. Peace through the Cross For in Him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of His cross. (Colossians 1:19-20) O Blessed Cross of Calvary O blessed cross of Calvary, where Jesus died for me! The cross of my Redeemer King, who sets the captive free. On that barren, lonely hill with creation standing still, All earth and heaven felt the chill as Christ did His Father s will. O blessed cross of sacrifice, where Jesus died in shame! Before the cross of Calvary I stand forgiven, cleansed and free! The cross where Jesus took my place; God s symbol of amazing grace, O blessed cross of Calvary! O blessed cross of victory! Salvation is complete. The cross of my Redeemer King, where love and mercy meet. 5 Peace with God Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through Him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. (Romans 5:1-2) Amazing Grace (all, standing) Amazing grace! How sweet the sound That saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found, was blind but now I see. The Lord has promised good to me, His word my hope secures; He will my shield and portion be, as long as life endures. Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail, And mortal life shall cease; I shall possess, within the veil, a life of joy and peace. When we ve been there ten thousand years, Bright shining as the sun; We ve no less days to sing God s praise Than when we first begun We ve no less days to sing God s praise Than when we first begun. Amazing grace! Amen! (please be seated) Peace in the Valley Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. (John 14:27) Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7) The Lord is never far away, but, through all grief distressing, An ever present help and stay, our peace, and joy, and blessing; As with a mother s tender hand, He leads His own, His chosen band: To God all praise and glory. It Is Well With My Soul When peace like a river attendeth my way, When sorrow like sea billows roll; Whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say: It is well, it is well with my soul. Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come, Let this blest assurance control: That Christ hath regarded my helpless estate, And hath shed His own blood for my soul. Peace in Christ For He Himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in His flesh the dividing wall of hostility. (Ephesians 2:14) The Mercy Seat in the Old Testament was the lid to the Ark of the Covenant, upon which the blood of the sacrifice was sprinkled for the sins of the people on the Day of Atonement each year. It was the place of atonement, mercy, forgiveness and peace. (Exodus 25:22) That place is now found in the Person and presence of Christ Himself. He is our Mercy Seat; in Christ we find redemption and peace. From every stormy wind that blows, From every swelling tide of woes, There is a calm, a sure retreat: Tis found above the Mercy Seat. Come then and rest within the veil, Where Jesus peace will always prevail; Where justice and love will meet, through Jesus blood, at the Mercy Seat. 7 MESSAGE Cole Huffman, Senior Pastor Prevailing Peace O Lord, my heart is not lifted up; my eyes are not raised too high; I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me. But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me. O Israel, hope in the Lord from this time forth and forevermore! (Psalm 131) You keep Him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because He trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting Rock. (Isaiah 26:3-4) REFRAIN (solo then all) (solo) My heart is not proud, my eyes not above You; You fill my soul. I am not filled with great things, Nor with thoughts beyond me. REFRAIN (repeat) (solo) My soul is still, my soul stays quiet, Longing for You Like a weaned child in its mother s arms; So is my soul a child with You. REFRAIN (repeat) Peace Everlasting And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be His people, and God Himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more. (Revelation 21:3-4) When faced with the painful reality of death, we find comfort in the hope of eternal life in Christ. That comfort leaves room for grieving, but not as those who have no hope (1 Thessalonians 4:13). The song of the redeemed in heaven lifts our hearts and beckons us home. Let Peace Then Still the Strife Let peace then still the strife, the loneliness and grief, Come heal the piercing silence of passing. And sweet familiar strains, the voices lost in death, Arise in songs of hope everlasting. Then let the voices roll, as waves upon the sea; Come forth and break upon us, refreshing. And barren coves be filled o er flow with reverie! Let memory salve as Gilead s caressing. And though the balm be spread, let tender rifts remain That breaking hearts not yield to forgetting. For hearts rent wide at death, unfolded to our dead, Hear singing from beyond sunlight s setting. Then sing, beloved ones, reach o er the summer sea. Pour forth thy boundless love for us living! Sweep into every soul, make music of our tears, Turn all songs to joy and thanksgiving! And when we silent pass, from far across the sea Let praises ring for life s wondrous blessing. Then sing ye living souls! Sing generations past, Swell high the tide of life, us refreshing! Sing forth as with one voice, bear silent grief away, Resound with peace and hope everlasting! And all who wait and sing, sing on from earth and heaven and make our crossing forth joyful passing! Amen!
