Rather than trying to compose something profound or pithy, I simply want to say, Thank you. Thank you, my St. Peter s By-the-Sea church family, for all the love, support and encouragement you have shown Helen and me since our arrival in November of Thank you for your friendship. Thank you for the kind words of affirmation that picked me up when I was down. Thank you for laughing at my oftentimes silly jokes. Thank you for being quick to say yes whenever I called out for assistance. Thank you for simply being a family to me. Thank you for the cherished memories that I will carry for the rest of my life. Thank you Lord for the great privilege it has been to serve this wonderful church all these years. Thank you for the lessons you have taught me, and the patience you have shown me, as I have attempted to lead rightly. Thank you for providing not only for every need in my life and ministry, but for our church as well. And thank you for your faithfulness to carry this great church into a new and bright future. I close with the words of Paul, I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns. Philippians 1:6

4 For more information contact Children s Director Jan Harvey jharvey@stpetershb.org Vacation Bible School July 20 July 23 9:30 a.m. 12:00 noon $40.00 per child Once again, St. Peter's is offering a weekday VBS exclusively to preschool age children. Our elementary age kids (as well as our preschool age children) will participate in Vacation Bible School fun during their Sunday school hour every Sunday morning this summer! Summer Kids Night Out will be Friday evenings June 12, July 10 and August 14 from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. KNO is for kids ages entering Kindergarten through 5th Grade. The evening is structured to give kids a fun, safe place to hang out with other kids, while their parents enjoy a little time alone. The cost is $10 per child with a $25 family maximum and includes dinner, fun and a movie. For more information contact Jan Harvey, Director of Children s Ministry. To be eligible to attend our weekday VBS, children must be three years old through entering 1st Grade in the fall of Our kids will learn about God s Plan 4 Us through Bible stories, songs, games and crafts. MMO continues to meet on Wednesday mornings from 9:30 a.m. 11:30 a.m., in the children s building. MMO is designed for children, ages two through five years old. MMO is a time for art activities, music, singing, sand/ water play and plain old fun! While children are having fun with our caring staff, moms (or dads) are able to have a kid free Mom s (or Dad s) Morning Out! Page 4

5 Job, the latest in the Book by Book video studies, continues through the month of June. Glen Scrivener joins regular hosts Dr. Richard Bewes and Dr. Paul Blackham in this teaching study. The constant temptation, both for Job's friends and for people today, is to assume that Job's suffering was in some way connected to his way of life. However, the Bible shows clearly from the start that Job did not live in sin. Job is constantly accused by his friends of sin or pride or selfishness. They believe that suffering is always our own fault but that there is a way to avoid suffering if only we are holy enough or repent enough of our sins. Still today, people talk as if there is a special way of praying that will keep us free from hurt and suffering. Even Jesus himself faced the most terrible and unjust suffering of all. The book of Job wants to teach us to think again about suffering: Suffering may contain some of the deepest treasures from the living God. The class meets in Room C/D of the Family Worship Center at 9:30 am on Wednesdays and 10:30 am on Sundays. There is no cost for the handout material, which is available in advance from Matt Allan, who leads each study. 8 by Lynn Silver, Choir Director A great big "Thank you!" to our wonderful congregation for their loving support as we, the Choir, get ready for our summer break. This year has been a wonderful year of music for us - some new songs, some old - but through it all, we hope we have lived up to the task set before us to "make a joyful noise" and that you, our fellow worshipers, have been inspired to do the same. From our season opener in September, through Advent and special music for Christmas services, followed closely by Lent with our wonderfully spiritual "Upon This Rock" for Holy Week and Easter, to the very end of our Choir season, our prayer has always been for the Lord to fill us, and use us as His musical servants to spread His word through the gift of music. We sincerely hope that we have been able to fulfill that mission this year. We know that we have been blessed through it all, and hope that you have, too. We want you to know that as the Choir takes a break this summer, we might be out of the Choir loft, but we'll be joining you in the congregation! And as September approaches, remember that our Choir door is always open! Even if the Choir loft looks full, there is always room for more! Please come and be a part of this wonderful group of Christian musicians! You don't have to read music (although it helps!)... and if you can't make a year-long commitment... that's okay! Come and sing with us for the Christmas season or the Easter season! We love our group so much, that we want you to be a part of it! September is a great time to start! Be on the look-out for more information regarding our fall start-up date! Remember, God doesn't ask us to sing with a great voice, or even a good one!
