2 OUR LADY S MESSAGE To the World Given 25th September 2018 to Marija Pavlovic Dear children! Also nature extends signs of its love to you through the fruits which it gives you. Also, you, by my coming, have received an abundance of gifts and fruits. Little children, how much you have answered to my call, God knows. I am calling you - it is not late - decide for holiness and a life with God, in grace and in peace. God will bless you and give to you a hundred-fold, if you trust in Him. Thank you for having responded to my call. Fr. Martin Morris s Reflection Spiritual Director of Medjugorje Centre NE Dear Brothers and Sisters of Medjugorje North East and beyond, Let us turn to the Holy Scriptures for enlightenment and nourishment as reflect on Our Lady s message. In St. John s Gospel, chapter four verse we see Our Lord s encounter with the woman at the well. Speaking about the food that will last forever Jesus says to the woman, My food is to do the will of the one who sent me and to finish his work. Well, let me tell you, raise your eyes and see, the fields are already white, ready for the harvest. (John 4:34-35) We can see in the mind s eye the beautiful fields of swaying corn and wheat ripening for the harvest. Jesus is saying there is no time for delay, harvest is a time for celebration, Joy, the moment of fulfilment. We should look with the eyes of Faith at the spiritual harvest to be gathered, the time has come, the day of salvation has dawned. With this harvest image in mind Mary speaks to us also nature extends signs of its love to you through the fruits which it gives you. The signs of natures love to us, are the signs of Our Heavenly Father s love. The gift of creation is Gods first gift to us. With this in mind Mary asks us to ponder, Also, you, by my coming have received an abundance of gifts and fruits. Note, Our Lady is speaking in the past tense, i.e. Have received, Mary has been speaking in past tense for the last three messages. Harvest time is time for reaping the rewards of our labours. Let us reflect on our call to Holiness of life and the Gospel call to conversion which by Mary s coming to Medjugorje has borne fruit and an abundance of gifts. Mary wants us to take stock. This is news of joy and hope; the past thirty-seven years have not been in vain. The countless conversions, miracles and healings, the vast number of Holy
3 Confessions, the rediscovery of Prayer by so many, the return to the sacraments, the Priestly and religious vocations, all are witness to the abundance of gifts and fruits which Our Lady speaks. It is the spiritual harvest, and in these times of spiritual turbulence for the Church, when much seems dark, Mary calls us to see the good-the abundance of gifts and fruits. Let us thank Our Heavenly Mother for what she did in each of our lives, in our souls, and in the Church. Little Children, how much you answered my call. God knows. Again, speaking in the past tense, Mary wants us all to look back, when each of us first heard of her coming to Medjugorje, and how each in our own way, knew the authenticity of the apparitions. Knew the genuine witness of the young people, knew and discerned the movement of God s presence with the coming of the Mother of God. How many answered Mary s call, because the Holy spirit the Lord and giver of life, moved our hearts. The many pilgrimages, retreats, fastings, holy hours, shared prayer, it was all done for love of Mary. Our efforts in responding were not in vain, God knows I am calling you, it is not late. Even though the harvest takes place, there is always still time-remember the people of the last hour in the parable of the vineyard? (Matt 20: 1-16) This is the call to Christian hope, so that no one feels beyond the love of the Father. Heaven is calling all people to salvation, time is Gods gift. We must tell everyone of the time we have remaining, this is why Mary says often, this is a time of Grace. We should not wait for the sign, or for any sign, then it will be too late, now is the moment of salvation. Decide for holiness and a life with God in grace and in peace. The decision for God is ours, with Mary s encouragement Mary desires we know the fruits of holiness, grace and peace. Mary wants us to receive the abundance of gifts which God will give a hundredfold if we trust in him. But it means we have to choose holiness, decide for it in the everyday events of our lives. Jesus I trust in you. God Bless, Fr. Martin I am calling you, it is not late
4 Holy Mass celebrated on Cross Mountain Pilgrims arrive in Bare Feet On September 9, 2018, the Feast of Exaltation of the Holy Cross was celebrated in Medjugorje. This feast in Medjugorje parish is always celebrated on the first Sunday after the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Holy Mass was celebrated in the parish church at 7, 8, 12 and 6 pm. On Cross Mountain at 11am a solemn Holy Mass was also celebrated by Fr. Slavko Soldo, along with Parish Priest Fr. Marinko Sakota and 27 more priests. Every year, many pilgrims arrive in bare feet from Croatia, Germany, England, Ireland, the United States, Italy, France, Austria, Netherlands, Korea, Slovakia, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Portugal, Poland, South Africa, Lebanon Our Lady s message to Mirjana 2nd September 2018 Dear children! my words are simple but are filled with motherly love and care. My children, all the more the shadows of darkness and deception are being cast over you, and I am calling you to the light and truth - I am calling you to my Son. Only He can transform despair and suffering into peace and clarity; only He can give hope in the deepest pain. My Son is the life of the world. The more that you come to know Him - the more that you come close to Him - all the more you will love Him, because my Son is love. Love changes everything; it makes most beautiful also that which, without love, seems insignificant to you. That is why, anew, I am saying to you that you must love a lot if you desire to grow spiritually. I know, apostles of my love, that it is not always easy, but, my children, also the painful paths are paths which lead to spiritual growth, to faith, and to my Son. My children, pray - think of my Son. In all the moments of the day, raise your soul to Him, and I will gather your prayers as flowers from the most beautiful garden and give them as a gift to my Son. Be true apostles of my love; spread the love of my Son to everyone. Be gardens of the most beautiful flowers. With your prayers help your shepherds that they may be spiritual fathers filled with love for all people. Thank you.
5 REPORT FROM SISTER EMMANUEL of The Community of The Beatitudes Medjugorje, September 15, 2018 Feast of Mary Mother of Sorrows Dear children of Medjugorje, praised be Jesus and Mary! 1. On September 2, 2018, Mirjana received her monthly apparition at the Blue Cross, surrounded by a large crowd. After the apparition, she conveyed her message: ( see page 4 ) 2. What will save the Church? Venerable Fulton Sheen, the great American preacher, said: Do not look at the priests, do not look at the bishops! It depends on you. In other words, let's tend to our own garden first! One day a man complained about the Church to Mother Teresa of Calcutta and began to enumerate some of the Church's flaws, as to provoke her. Looking straight into his eyes with her penetrating gaze (a specialty of Mother Teresa's), she said to him: "In the Church, my brother, there are only two problems: you and me!" In order not to injure our Church further through unnecessary negative words, but rather to fill us with the Holy Spirit to be a pillar of love within her, I suggest that we all pray and live this simple consecration to the Holy Spirit and that we let ourselves be transformed by Him. Our transformation will raise the whole Church and heal it from many evils. Consecration to the Holy Spirit "Holy Spirit, love of the Father and the Son, receive the consecration of my entire being. Transform me by Mary, with Mary and in Mary into another Christ Jesus. Under the protection of St. Michael the Archangel, I abandon myself without reservation to your divine operations. Be my light in this time of darkness, be my strength at this time when the demon comes to weaken us, and be our guide to help us in our fight against the forces of evil. Inspire me with what I must do for the glory of the Father, for my own sanctification and the salvation of the world. Amen!" 3. Love? Only Divine Love comes with us to heaven; human love 'drops the ball' on us because it remains in the world like all that is earthly. Our Lady clearly shows the difference between the two ways of loving when she says: Dear children, may love reign in your families! Not human love, but divine love. What is the difference she is pointing to? Human love is made of the natural attraction that one feels for a person, a feeling that seizes us - "I feel good
6 with this person! He/she brings me a lot of joy, contentment, pleasure and satisfaction. I am fulfilled because he/ she loves me and clearly shows it to me. I feel like more of a person in his/ her presence, more alive, I feel completely myself", etc. But what is in fact at the center of that love? Me! It's my own advantage, my own interest. I'm glad to receive. Do not think that this human love is a sin, this feeling is completely natural; it belongs to our human nature created by God. But very often, when left to its own devices and limitations, even its weaknesses and sinfulness, it has an expiration date! It may appear one day and disappear the way it came. Divine love is a love that gives itself, a self-sacrificial love for the other. It seeks the good of the other at all costs. Jesus gave us the example of this when he died for us on the cross, although we were sinners, in other words not so attractive in his eyes! That is why day after day we will let God render divine this human love so that it may be transformed into a true divine Love, no longer centred on the self, but on the other. This Divine love will be our greatest passport to enter into heaven. This cannot be achieved overnight, it happens in stages. The Spirit of love is ready to work powerfully and he dreams to do so, to the extent that we let ourselves be led by it with docility. Little Theresa gives us here a magnificent example of this divine love, a hard-won victory over her natural feelings. Let's listen to what she says... Ah! What I saw in her! "There is in the community a sister who has the faculty of displeasing me in everything. Not wishing to give in to the natural antipathy I was experiencing, I told myself that charity must not consist in feelings but in works; then I set myself to doing for this sister what I would do for the person I loved the most. Each time I met her I prayed to God for her, offering Him all her virtues and merits. I wasn't content simply with praying very much for this sister who gave me so many struggles, but I took care to render her all the services possible, and when I was tempted to answer her back in a disagreeable manner, I was content with giving her my most friendly smile, and with changing the subject of the conversation. Frequently, when I was not at recreation (I mean during the work periods) and had occasion to work with this sister, I used to run away like a deserter whenever my struggles became too violent. As she was absolutely unaware of my feelings for her, never did she suspect the motives for my conduct, and she remained convinced that her character was very pleasing to me. One day at recreation she asked me: "Sister Therese of the Child Jesus, what attracts you so much towards me? Every time you look at me, I see you smile!" Ah! What attracted me was Jesus hidden in the depths of her soul; Jesus who makes sweet what is most bitter."
7 4. Vicka celebrated her 54th birthday on September 3, in private with her family. It is beautiful to see her joy after the Blessed Mother kissed her tenderly on both cheeks as do the mothers of this world. Vicka says that this kiss is a heavenly moment for her, and she prepares for it a month in advance with a countdown! During the apparition, Mary gives thanks to God for Vicka's life, and Vicka thanks the Mother of God for all the Graces received by her, enumerating them with an overflowing joy. Since Vicka often told me that, although she was chosen to be a visionary, she was "not special but equal to others", I am convinced that on our birthday, the Blessed Mother also comes to kiss all those who open up to her during the apparition. Vicka confirmed this to me - A note to lovers of heavenly kisses! A false message is circulating on the Net, so it is important to inform you of the error. In the year 2000, Vicka gave an interview where she simply quoted Mary's message about Pope John Paul II before his trip to Zagreb in August But some messages are circulating today, claiming that Vicka attributed these same words to Pope Francis. This is not the case, it is a mistake! The visionaries were not given the task of making statements about people. They have a different role and they stick to it. We must love our pastors, help them, respect them and pray for them. That is what the visionaries continuously tell us without cease. 5. She pronounced my name! In February 1991, I was blessed to bring Vicka to Paris for a short mission in France. I was supposed to pick her up at her home on a particular morning, and I said to her the day before: "Tomorrow I will come by at 4 in the morning with the taxi, be ready!" At 4:00 am, I find Vicka and we get in the cab. During the journey, I ask her how we could organize a place in Paris where she would be able to receive the daily apparition. But she replied: "No need, the Gospa already appeared to me this morning! You know, when I travel, it happens often, she appears to me before I leave. So yesterday she said to me: "Since Sister Emmanuel will pick you up tomorrow at 4 am, I will appear to you shortly before her arrival..." I was taken aback, and said to Vicka: "What? The Blessed Mother said my name!!??" "Yes," replied Vicka in a perfectly natural tone, "It's normal, she always does that!" But for me it was an unforgettable grace. It made my day! WOW! The Mother of God arranged Her schedule according to My decision, and she pronounced my name! We are too oblivious to the extreme closeness of the Lord and his Mother to the smallest details of our daily lives!
8 6. Belgian people, take up your Rosaries! A "Rosary at the Borders" will be prayed in Belgium on 13 October at 3pm, by all those who want to unite to implore heaven. A beautiful initiative, following the example of Poland! The aim is to renew the Christian faith in this country, which is participating in old Europe's current apostasy, and to opt for life. Of course, we are all invited to support our beloved Belgian brothers and sisters, and to pray for many more such initiatives in the world! Information on the website - Dearest Gospa, every day you say our name before the Father and intercede for each one of us. We thank you so very much! We beg you, remind us also to often say your own sweet name that chases away the darkness, and that of your Son Jesus, the Name above all names! Sister Emmanuel 2 Minutes of Gospel each day Our Holy Father Pope Francis video message at National Youth Meeting in Rosario. ( ) I ask you: how many of you read two minutes of the Gospel each day? Two minutes! Keep a little copy of the Gospel in your pocket, in your wallet While you are on the bus, while you are on the subway, on the train or you stop and sit at home, open it and read it for two minutes. Try, and you will see how your life changes. Why? Because you will meet Jesus. You will meet Him with the WORD. I also invite you to look in these days to Mary, the Virgin of the Rosary, who knew how to be close to her Son, accompanying Him in His mysteries of joy and pain, light and glory. May she, Mary, Mother of closeness and tenderness, Lady of the open heart, always willing to meet those who need her, be your teacher as the model of the life of faith. If you look to her, she will teach you. May Jesus bless you, may the Holy Virgin keep you, your families, and your communities. And, please, do not forget to pray for me, and so that I will be able to hand down roots to the new generations who will make them flourish in the future. And these are you. Thank you! Bro. Johnson s Book JESUS CHRIST IS LORD.
There are in fact two blue cross in Medjugorje an upper and lower located at the base of the mount known as Podbrdo or Apparition Hill. The upper blue cross is the original location; the lower blue cross was erected not too many years ago to accommodate Ivan s prayer group. It is at the lower blue cross where Our Lady appears to Mirjana. Pilgrims vouch for the power of prayer and peaceful atmosphere to be found at the Blue Cross. Countless apparitions and healings have taken place there over the long history of the Medjugorje phenomenon. There are varied accounts as to the origins of the Blue Cross and why it has become such a powerful place of prayer, but this explanation by an unnamed member of Ivan s prayer group is probably the most reliable Many pilgrims may not have the correct information concerning the Blue Cross. Many think that the Blue Cross was the site of the first apparition of Our Lady in Medjugorje. Many also think that the visionaries had apparitions at Blue Cross after they had been prohibited from having apparitions on the first place of the Apparition Hill. The correct information is as follows: The first apparition at the site of the Blue Cross occurred on 27 July A prayer group was regularly meeting at the first place of the 9 MEDJUGORJE Why is the Blue Cross blue? ( apparitions, but soon the police discovered this. On the evening of July 27, we were walking to the site of the first place of apparitions when suddenly Ivan the visionary knelt down. This place where Ivan knelt became the site of today's Blue Cross. That same evening, Our Lady told Ivan not to proceed to the first place of the apparitions, as the blue angels (the communist police) were waiting for them. Our Lady, on several occasions, stopped the prayer group at the Blue Cross, as they were on their way to the first way of apparitions. We travelled the back way to the first place of apparitions because we thought that only we knew that way not even the police knew of that back way. In 1982, a member of the prayer group was building his house 200 metres below the Blue Cross. Today, this house is the closest to the Cenacolo Community. He wanted to mark the meeting place of the prayer group with a simple cross. From the framework of the house he was building, he and Ivan built a 3ft high cross. In order to protect this cross from the elements, Ivan found some paint that he had at home. He only had blue paint, that is why the Cross is blue! After a while, pilgrims started to gather there. They lit candles, and one day, the cross caught fire. One Italian
10 pilgrim asked Marija the visionary if he could take home this wooden cross and replace it with an identical metal cross. This request was approved. He took a sample of the paint from the wooden cross, and in a laboratory, the contents of the blue paint was discovered and duplicated to paint the new metallic Blue Cross that is there to this day. This Italian pilgrim landscaped the Blue Cross area with the rock formations that you see today. He kept the original Blue Cross at his house in Italy, so that people could pray there. One day, I met this Italian pilgrim, and I jokingly asked him what happened to my Blue Cross. He was taken by surprise, thinking that we wanted it back. Of course, I had no intention of taking it back. Let the people pray! There have been many, many apparitions at the Blue Cross. It is the most suitable outdoor place in Medjugorje for pilgrims who are sick, old or not physically able to climb Cross Mountain or Apparition Hill, because of its close proximity to the road and it is easily climbed. It is an ideal meeting place for the prayer group when there are not so many pilgrims, especially in winter. Even today, apparitions occur at Blue Cross when Ivan returns from America. For years now, however, the prayer group have met in a location in the vicinity of Blue Cross, as pilgrims overflow the area hours before any apparitions begin. (where the second blue cross is erected). The Blue Cross was a secret meeting place for the prayer group for only a short time. People soon discovered its meeting location because at night, our joyful singing could be heard from far and wide. The communist police tried many times to capture the group of fanatics that walk on the mountains, but they never succeeded, because Our Lady always protected us. She was always suddenly stopping us to warn us of the police. This also happened twice when we went to Cross Mountain. Today the prayer group meets at a secret place, where we do not sing. Even if somebody hears us, they do not disturb us. The Cross The Cross is the key that undoes the padlock of sin, trips the lock of death and opens Heaven s door. The Cross is the key to Heaven s door; there is no other key. Heaven s door is where Heaven and earth meet, at the summit of Golgotha. Some think that it has no lock and opens to whoever pushes it. But when you approach the door, you will realize that it has a lock, and it can only be opened with its proper key. The true key cannot be recognized unless you put it into the padlock. There is only one true key: the Cross of Christ. ~ ( St. Charbel )
11 Medjugorje The early Days I was there ( Spirit of Medjugorje ) Through an interpreter, Ljubica Svric, better known as Masinica to the people of Medjugorje, very kindly related her memories of the early days in Medjugorje. She began by telling how she first heard about the coming of the Gospa. It was on the 26th of June when she and members of her family and relatives were celebrating at a wedding reception when a relative came and said the Gospa was to appear in Bijakovici that evening to some children. She said there and then she and all the guests, including the bride and groom, headed to Apparition Hill. They were among the first people there that evening. They helped to form a cordon around the children to protect them from the crowd. As time and events moved on, she said the apparitions moved to the room in St. James Church. She and some twenty local women were present for many of the apparitions. It was during this time that Our Lady began to give the visionaries the first of the secrets that they were to receive. One of these apparitions lasted about twenty minutes, which must have been one of the longest on record. Also, it was around these times that she and a group of local women saw the word Mir [Croatian for Peace ] appear in the sky above the village. The sign remained above the village for a long time. One of the events that she also recalled had to do with the threatened closure of the church by the police. It happened that they heard that the police were going to close the church, and she organized the local women to march on the church to reclaim, as she said, their property. On arrival, they were stopped by the chief of police and told they could go no further. With that, Masinica stepped forward and said that this was their church, as they had built it with their own labour and money, and nobody was going to take it from them. She was told if she attempted to go any further she would be arrested. She replied that they would have to shoot her to keep her from reclaiming their church. After much protesting, the police withdrew. There was great relief among the villagers at their victory. When asked how she spends her time now, she said that during the day she prays many, many rosaries and that only God knows how many. Medjugorje Herald, June 2013
12 What use is Adoration? Fr Leon Pereira OP Chaplain to English speaking pilgrims in Medjugorje To the modern mind, Adoration does not seem particularly useful, unless it is understood as some form of mindfulness. It comes as no surprise that the world might value the charitable deeds of missionaries, such as St Teresa of Calcutta, but not put much stock in Carthusian monks praying and contemplating. Cloistered monks seem to be doing nothing useful, whereas Mother Teresa clearly did many useful and good things. Many in the Church might agree. In the choice between Martha and Mary between Martha who was busy serving, and Mary who sat at Christ s feet we are tempted to side with Martha, and puzzled by Jesus s endorsement of Mary. Here in Medjugorje, where I am chaplain to the English-speaking pilgrims, we have Adoration every day in the chapel, and public veneration of the Blessed Sacrament in the evening four days a week. It is one of the great signs of Medjugorje: between seven and ten thousand people, kneeling in silence, adoring the Lord. Here many laity and priests learn to love Adoration. They taste and see the goodness of the Lord. Adoration is the heart of Medjugorje, because Jesus is the heart of this parish, as He must be in every parish. Adoration is the heart of Medjugorje, I said. In my own experience it is powerful. Jesus waits for us with eager longing. And He longs to lavish Himself on us. It s like a tower made of champagne glasses, and when the top glass is filled it overflows and fills the glasses below. In Adoration, when we are open to receive, God enlarges our hearts to love, and that love overflows to others, just like the champagne tower. Sometimes people experience little change, often because of unconfessed sin or hiding ourselves from the Lord. If we are closed, if we keep our hurts and everything about us hidden from the Lord, then very little can change. Then Adoration will be experienced as a burden to be endured or avoided. But when we are open to the Lord, it is very powerful. God has so many graces He wants to give us, and He leads and guides us in prayer through Adoration. Sometimes we keep vigil with the Lord during Adoration, and make acts of reparation and love because the world needs this so much. In Lourdes, most miracles take place during the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Medjugorje is no different. Although so much power and grace radiate from the Blessed Sacrament during heartfelt and worthy Adoration, in the end this is not about getting something. The Curé d Ars referred to a parishioner who said that during Adoration, I look at Him. And He looks at me. It is about two people in love with each other a creature and its God. The deeper our hunger, the more He gives us; indeed, He gives us this hunger for Him. Get to church, and let Heaven fall on you Extract from article first published in November 2017.
13 Medjugorje: spiritual lungs of Europe ( September 13, 2018 Medjugorjewitness ) In May, Pope Francis appointed Archbishop Henry Hoser apostolic visitor to Medjugorje, In an interview this week with Poland s Catholic information agency, KAI, Archbishp Henry Hoser has described Medjugorje as the spiritual lungs of Europe where millions of pilgrims discover God and the beauty of the Church. The Pope s apostolic visitor encouraged priests to come to Medjugorje and help provide sacramental services where the biggest phenomenon are mass conversions and confessions. He also referred to the network of Medjugorje pilgrims in other countries who organise, meet and pray together. Msgr Hoser stressed that the Marian cult at Medjugorje is Christocentric in character with the liturgy focused on the mystery of Jesus Christ, and thus on the Eucharist and the elements that lead to it. He pointed out that a special role is played by the very sacrament of penance and reconciliation which leads to communion with God and his people. The archbishop also drew attention to the good work of the Cenacolo Community and the programme of retreats offered by the Franciscans at Medjugorje. Among the challenges and planned changes, he mentioned the need to protect the liturgical space and, in view of the extreme temperatures in summer and winter, create a roof for a large esplande, as well as expanding the infrastructure to provide more space for retreats and create new areas to celebrate holy mass for different language groups St. Dominic's Priory Church Newbridge Street Newcastle upon Tyne.
