3 2 OUR LADY S MESSAGE To the World Given 25th March 2017 to Marija Pavlovic D ear children! In this time of grace, I am calling all of you to open your hearts to God s mercy, to begin a new life through prayer, penance and a decision for holiness. This time of spring moves you to a new life, to a renewal, in your thoughts and hearts. Therefore, little children, I am with you to help you to say yes to God and to God s commandments with resoluteness. You are not alone; I am with you through the grace which the Most High gives me for you and your descendants. Thank you for having responded to my call. Fr. Martin Morris s Reflection Spiritual Director of Medjugorje Centre NE Dear Brothers and Sisters of Medjugorje North East and beyond, Jesus Christ is the Merciful Face of the Fathers Love, who calls every believer to his Merciful Heart that flows with blood and water. From the pierced side of Christ on the Cross we see the complete manifestation of the Father of Mercies, it is to this Divine Mercy that Mary begins this month's message, "Open your hearts to God's Mercy From this gift of Mercy we can begin a new life of Prayer, Penance and a decision for holiness The simple but beautiful Prayer, 'Jesus I trust in you' is the Prayer of one who has great confidence in the Mercy of God with complete abandonment to his will. Mary invites us to open our hearts to the Father of Mercies, let us do so in the Sacrament of Penance, and the renunciations we make. It is through the Mercy of God that we begin the new life Mary speaks of, a renewal that touches our minds and hearts. Mary then teaches that as we can now see the signs of Spring all around us, so she heralds a new springtime for all who respond to her Motherly call. "I am with you" When we really believe this and take this to heart, then we should be no longer dominated by fear. Even when we have worries and difficulties, to know and feel Mary is with us, then our hearts can react to her presence, and so overcome our fears. To believe what Mary says about her presence with us is sure consolation.

4 3 So, let us not spread fear, but the Peace of Mary's presence with us, for she tells us she heralds a new Springtime for all who are attentive to her presence. So, Our Lady Queen and Mother of Peace, wants us to be like her at the moment of the Annunciation. She invites each of us to give a heartfelt "YES" to the Lord and his commandments with resoluteness. To say this "YES" with Mary gives us great encouragement in our Faith. For Mary says again, "You are not alone" She stands with us at all the crossroads of our life, but each day she is present with us to live the Faith of her Son. She stands with us in making this decision for God and Holiness of life. Mary is with us as our protector, our helper, and intercessor, but also as our example. So, when we say with her at our side, "YES, Lord your will be done we give the Lord the key for our life and our holiness, and in His Goodness and Mercy gives us the grace to remain with Our Lady on the way to holiness to remain with her, and to stand with her with the gift of a resolute Faith. Let us not fear, because Mary tells us this grace is for us and our descendants, the great river of Faith in which we all follow, begun at the moment of Annunciation. "Jesus I trust in you." 5 4 Our Lady s message to Mirjana 2nd March 2017 Dear children! With motherly love I am coming to help you to have more love and that means more faith. I am coming to help you to live with love the words of my Son, so that the world would be different. Therefore, apostles of my love, I am gathering you around myself. Look at me with the heart, speak to me as to a mother about your pains, sufferings and your joys. Ask me to pray to my Son for you. My Son is merciful and just. My motherly heart would desire for you also to be like that. My motherly heart would desire that you, apostles of my love, speak of my Son and of me to all those around you with your life; so that the world would be different; that simplicity and purity would return; that faith and hope would return. Therefore, my children, pray, pray, pray with the heart, pray with love, pray with good works. Pray that everyone would come to know my Son, so that the world would change, that the world would be saved. With love live the words of my Son. Do not judge, instead love one another so that my heart could triumph. Thank you. Our Lady s Annual Apparition to Mirjana 18th March 2017 ( Mirjana s Birthday ) Dear children! My motherly desire is for your hearts to be filled with peace, and for your souls to be pure so that in the presence of my Son you could see His face. Because, my children, as a mother I know that you thirst for consolation, hope and protection. You, my children, consciously and unconsciously are seeking my Son. I also, as I passed the time on earth, rejoiced, suffered and patiently endured pains, until my Son, in all His glory, removed them. And that is why I am saying to my Son: help them always. You, my children, with true love, illuminate the darkness of selfishness which all the more envelopes my children. Be generous. May both your hands and heart always be open. Do not be afraid. Abandon yourselves to my Son with trust and hope. As you look towards Him, live life with love. To love means to give oneself, to endure, and never to judge. To love means to live the words of my Son. My children, as a mother I am speaking to you: only true love leads to eternal happiness. Thank you. Brief History: Medjugorje visionary Mirjana has received all 10 "Medjugorje Secrets." Having received all the secrets, Our Lady told Mirjana she would now receive only one annual apparition a year on March 18th. However for some years now, Mirjana is receiving a special message on the 2nd of each month. Part of these messages are shared with the world, the rest remains a secret.

6 5 REPORT FROM SISTER EMMANUEL of The Community of The Beatitudes March 15, 2017 Dear Children of Medjugorje, praised be Jesus and Mary! 1. On March 2, 2017, Mirjana received her monthly apparition at the Blue Cross. oldest part of Cairo. That Church is where one of the three icons, of the Blessed Virgin Mary, painted by the Apostle Luke, is kept. This icon of the Blessed Mother is called "El Ezbaweya". (Two other paintings of St. Luke are located in Rome, and Jerusalem.) After the apparition, she shared with us the message from Our Lady: ( see page 4 ) Mirjana's birthday is March 18th, and, as usual, she received an apparition on that day. 2. What I Learned in Egypt Last month I had the joy of being able to return to Egypt. Many had told me: "Don't go, it's dangerous!" But where is the danger these days? Isn't there just as much danger in Paris, Nice, or Brussels, where we had bombings lately? The real danger is not being where God calls us! In her March 2nd message, Mary told us twice that she comes to help us. That reminds me of what I learned while visiting a small church hidden in the narrow, crowded streets, in the This is a miraculous icon. Many Christians and non-christians come here to honor the Mother of God who is shown with the child Jesus. Some spend hours in front of her, seated on the floor, mumbling a mix of praise and supplications. Among the many miracles that have occurred in this place, one of them, narrated by the Coptic priest in charge of this shrine, really touched me. In the 1940s, during World War II, a woman of Greek nationality came to Cairo, and for 12 days she stood at the feet of the Blessed Virgin, tearfully praying and pleading with her. Every day, she would make a new offering. What happened was that her son had joined the British army and was then sent to Lebanon. He sent letters to his mother regularly, but in his latest letter he

7 6 had told her that he was sick. After that...she received not one word from him! Complete silence! She was not receiving any more news, so that this poor mother was afraid that something bad had happened to her son, perhaps even that he had died. So she had come from very far to implore the assistance of El Ezbaweya, begging her to look after her son over there in Lebanon, to keep him healthy and bring him back. One day, the priest found her very early in the morning standing in front of the door of the Church, radiant with joy. She told him that she had received a letter from her son. He thanked his mother saying: "Mom, thank you for the lady you sent me! I was very sick, but this lady came to me and she brought me some medicine. She told me: 'Your mother sent me to you!' The medication she brought me is what healed me. I took it and I am healed!' I asked her to tell me her name, and she said: 'My name is El Ezbaweya'." (Her son did not know this name at all). The priest concluded: "The Lady El Ezbaweya has replied to the prayers, the tears and the praises of a mother!" 3. Don't forget St. Joseph! On March 19th, we will joyfully celebrate him! Those who have not yet started the Novena, and wish to, will have to "train-hop" so to speak. Meaning that you can still hop on the train of the novena and end it after St. Joseph's feast day. Following in the footsteps of the Holy Family in Egypt makes us realize how this man, chosen by God, was able to take care of his family under the worst possible conditions! As political refugees under constant threat from Herod's spies, despised by people because of their poverty, Joseph, Mary and Jesus owe their survival to Providence alone! Their unshakable confidence in God's purposes and their mutual love enabled them to undergo this trial and grow stronger because of it. What a magnificent example for us, whose families are bombarded as never before by the destroyer! Indeed, though Satan is always eager to subvert and break what God created from the beginning, namely the holy nest of life that is the family, nevertheless the Creator is all the more present to pour out his special graces to all families that really trust in Him! The sacrament of marriage is incomparably rich, because it places the family under the blessing of God. In our day, who wouldn't want to be covered by the blessing of God? Of course, if you asked for such a blessing, you cannot at the same time act in a way that displeases Him. The world is pushing us to step on the Word of God, which is life because it is God, but St. Joseph will help us to keep it and treasure it!

8 7 Among the praises addressed to St. Joseph in his litany (see our site), there is one that we should mention now more than ever before, "Joseph most chaste." Just recently we have seen a horrible campaign to pervert children through pornography, cleverly imposed by the Ministry of Education and the media. The Lord Jesus, though He is so merciful, spoke clearly against those who would scandalize a child. Woe unto us! Destroying the innocence of children is criminal. Our entire future will be seriously disordered and our children's potential for affection very wounded, even deviated. God can repair everything with much prayer and care but so many intimate sufferings could be avoided if only we would see the violence of pornography. St. Joseph, please protect the children! Saint Joseph, my tender father, I place myself forever under your protection. Consider me as your child and protect me from all sin. I throw myself into your arms so that you may carry me on the way of holiness. (A song composed in French, used for our morning prayer in Medjugorje) 4. Living Lent, Easter Is Next Month! For the weeks of lent that we still have to live, here are three ideas to make them more fruitful: - Every time I am tempted to grab my cell phone to call someone, I will ask myself, "Is it really necessary?" If I can avoid this call, I will replace it with a short prayer calling for the blessing of God upon that person and the entire world. Decide to never judge. - I will make the sign of the Cross over me - the right way - as Mary taught it to St. Bernadette in Lourdes, during the first apparition on February 11, On that day Bernadette just could not make the sign of the Cross. Then, Our Lady made, in front her her, a VERY wide and slow movement from the forehead to the belly button across the chest from left to right. From that day on, Bernadette made the sign of the Cross over herself with great reverence and piety. Actually, by this sign, we invoke God three times holy. The exchange of love between the three persons of the Trinity begins working within us. The sign of the Cross well made, with the heart, has the power of exorcism! It reminds the enemy how and by whom he has been

9 8 defeated forever: Jesus on the Cross. One of my assistants was converted just by making the sign of the Cross one day. In one moment, she believed in God and started changing her life. For her, it was like an outpouring of the Holy Spirit. - Every day, at home, read some verses from the Bible, especially the text of the daily Mass, even if you went to daily Mass. Pick up one word that strikes you the most, repeat it, chew on it, ponder it, be nurtured by it throughout the day. Then share it with your family or friends or neighbours, helping others to learn from the Word of God, which is light unto our steps. RIP Joanna Robinson (Hebburn). Aged 82. Originally from the Philippines. We are sad to announce the death of Joanna (Joanne). A Loving Aunt and faithful devotee of Our Lady Queen of Peace. Now reunited with her devoted husband Thomas. Joanne was a warm, friendly prayerful and popular Pilgrim to Medjugorje and regularly attended the afternoon of prayer. Dearest Gospa, how did you live through the weeks leading up to the Passion of your Son? You knew that he would resurrect after defeating sin on the cross. You communed fully with his vocation of a Redeemer, you, the "Co-Redemptrix". Please, help us contemplate Jesus as you did and unite our souls to His! Sister Emmanuel + Joanne will be received into St James R.C. Church, Hebburn on Sunday 9th April 2017 at 6pm, prior to requiem mass on Monday 10th April 2017 at 9.45am, followed by cremation at South Shields Crematorium at 11am. Family flowers only please. 10 We held our annual 'Day with Mary' at St Aidan's, Benton on 25 March 2017 when we also celebrated the Feast of The Annunciation of the Lord. This was an opportunity to meet friends old and new who have a particular devotion to Our Blessed Lady and have an interest in Our Lady's presence in Medjugorje and her monthly messages for the world. This is always a lovely peaceful and prayerful time where we meet for prayer, a talk from Fr Martin, spend time with Jesus in a Holy hour of Eucharistic Adoration and conclude with Holy mass. Some 40 people gathered together and our day began with the Joyful Mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary, which set the scene for Fr Martin's talk on two of the Seven Sorrows of Mary, the prophesy of Simeon and the crucifixion of Jesus. Fr Martin led us in a meditation on the prophesy of Simeon placing ourselves in the gospel story, observing the faces of Mary and Joseph who had come to fulfil the law of Moses by presenting Jesus to be purified according to the law. Then the faces of Simeon and Anna as they set eyes on the Christ of the Lord and gave praise and thanks to God for the privilege of that moment. However, the words of Simeon left Mary and 9 The Medjugorje Centre North East Annual Day of Prayer The Annunciation 25 th March 2017 Led by Fr. Martin Morris at St Aidans, Benton Joseph puzzled and to ponder on the future of Jesus which was to pierce Mary's soul like a sword. Fr Martin then talked of Mary's sorrow at the crucifixion of Jesus, as she stood at the foot of the cross, quietly accepting the fate of Jesus and being present with him in his sorrowful moment. She accepted her own cross whilst also accepting the cross of Jesus. By doing so, she became our role model for our own lives, to accept our crosses whilst also accepting the cross of Jesus. As always, Fr Martin has such a beautiful way of explaining events which I have not done justice to here, but I am sure that those who attended will agree, Fr. Martin made the day truly worthwhile. Our day would not have been complete without the music of David Ritson who led our singing beautifully during adoration and our celebration of mass. 11 Dear brothers and sisters, I will speak in French, excuse me, for I have not yet learned the beautiful Croatian language! We have gathered around the altar on the 5th Sunday of Lent. We have two more weeks from the Easter, and in a week time, it will be Palm Sunday, and in two weeks we are going to celebrate, at the end of Holy Week, the greatest Christian Feast Day - the Feast of the Resurrection. The Word of God that we have heard today speaks of the resurrection and shows us three perspectives of resurrection, three views on resurrection. The first one is historic. We know that Jesus Christ the Son of God and the Son of man, lived on this planet, in the Holy Land of Palestine. We also know that it was announced by prophets that he was going to be born, just as the prophet Ezekiel did, that we have just heard today. He brings the words of God who is telling us: I am now going to open your graves and I will lift you up, and he repeats I will open your graves and raise you from your graves. That is a prophesy, he already sees the arrival of the Messiah. We know that Jesus died and rose from the dead, which is the foundation of our faith. Without that foundation of Jesus Resurrection, our faith would be empty. The second perspective is liturgical, it is the way of the Lent. For forty day 10 The homily of Archbishop Hoser in Medjugorje (the Special Envoy of the Holy See) April 1st, 2017 we prayed and we will continue to pray, we fasted and we shall continue to fast. We have become more generous towards others and we are going to do all the more in the future. The Spirituality of Lent is very well known here, you know it very well. Therefore, the liturgical path that is preparing us to reach the third perspective, that is the third view of resurrection and that is the perspective of our life, the life of each one of us. We live for resurrection, we march towards resurrection, we go through death in order to resurrect. The final goal of our earthly life is resurrection. During this path we are to resurrect, anticipating that final perspective. Our partial resurrection is our conversion. Jesus says, and repeats, there is a death of a body, but he also speaks of a death of the soul. The death of a soul is more serious, a far greater threat, because it is then we might die for all eternity. Therefore, each time when we continue to convert ourselves, we are turning ourselves towards God who is the source of life, the source of Eternal Life. He is also the path to love, for God is Love. It is merciful love that brings us inner peace and the joy of life. However, there are two conditions; the first one is faith. Jesus, before performing miracles, requested faith. Do you believe I can do that? Yes, Lord, I believe! I strongly believe!

12 11 Then, it is that faith that opens our heart for conversion, that opening through the sacrament of confession, it is sacramental confession, when our hearts are cleansed, opened and filled with the Holy Spirit and the Holy Trinity. Christ confirms that to us in the Book of Revelation, He says that he is standing at the door of our heart, knocking on it. If the Most Holy Trinity dwells within it, we become the Temple of God, His own shrine. I would like to return to the historic perspective. In the days ahead of us, we are going to read in the Gospel, we are going to see that Jesus enemies, are throwing their nets around Jesus, threatening Jesus all the more every day. He knows and He is aware of that. He knows what His disciples and apostles do not know. There is somebody who follows Him on that path of suffering, His Passion. It is His Mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary. She is always near, She suffers with Him, She feels her helplessness. St. John Paul II spoke about her faith which was so hard. Often, we refer to her as to Our Lady of Seven Sorrows. Throughout Her life, She suffered so much pain and Her suffering is growing together with Jesus towards the Passion of the Way towards the foot of His Cross. On the Way of the Cross, at the fourth station we meditate Jesus carrying his Cross, encountering His Mother and the Gospel tells us that She was the witness of His horrifying death on the Cross. In Her own arms, She received the massacred body of Her Son. The Christian tradition teaches us that before Mary Magdalene, Mary encountered Risen Christ. Then, in the Perspective of the life of each one of us, the perspective of resurrection She is here too. She accompanies us, She follows us, She participates in our suffering and in our pain if we live that in the perspective of God. She wishes to save us, to bring us to conversion. We have to experience that spiritual presence of Hers. We call Her, especially here, the Queen of Peace. In the litanies of the Blessed Virgin Mary, there are some twelve titles when we call Her Queen and Queen of Peace is the last. Mary is the Queen. When we contemplate the Glorious mysteries of the Rosary, we speak of her as the Queen of Heaven and Earth. She has part in the characteristics of the kingdom of her Son, as the Creator of Heaven and Earth. Her reign is universal. She is everywhere and we are allowed to worship Her everywhere. We thank Her for Her constant presence in the life of each one of us. The Queen of Peace, it is the fruit of conversion, She brings peace into our hearts and thus we become peaceful people, especially with our family, with our environment, society, our country. The peace in the whole world is endangered. The Holy Father, Pope Francis said the third world war is partially already here and the most terrible are civil wars, those that take place among people that live in the same country. Dear brother and sisters, for twentyone years I lived in Rwanda, Africa, In 1982 Our Lady was appearing there and She predicted the genocide in Rwanda ten years before it actually happened. Ten years before. When She gave that message, nobody understood it. During three months of the genocide one million people were

13 12 slaughtered. The apparitions of Blessed Mother in Rwanda were already recognised. She introduced herself as Mother of the Word, Mother of the Eternal Word. Therefore, that honoring, that is so intense here, is so important for the entire world. We pray for peace because the destructive forces are tremendous throughout the world. Weapon trade grows constantly. Families, societies, marriages, countries are in conflict. We need a Heavenly intervention. The presence of our Blessed Virgin Mary that is this intervention. It is God s initiative. Therefore, I would like to encourage and fortify all of you, on behalf of the Pope as his Emissary. Let us spread peace throughout the world through the conversion of hearts. The greatest miracle of Medjugorje it is confessions we have here. The Sacrament of Reconciliation and Mercy. It is the Sacrament of Resurrection. I would like to thank all of the priests, who come to hear confessions of the faithful, as when today when around fifty priests were at disposal for confession, serving people of God. I spent many years working in the western countries, in Belgium and in France, and I can tell you that confessions vanished from there, the individual confession has practically disappeared in the western world, with the odd exception here and there. Therefore, the heart of man is closed. The world is becoming dry, human heats are closing down, the evil is strengthening, conflicts are multiplying. Therefore, let us all be the apostles of good news, conversion and peace in the world. As I have learned here, I have heard these words, non-believers are those who have not yet experienced the love of God, as the one touched by God s love and grace, that is irresistible, cannot resist that. So it happened that we are witnesses of that what saves lives. We are the witnesses of that what saves the world. As the brother Franciscans told me, pilgrims are coming here from eighty different countries throughout the world. This calling has been spread to the ends of the world, just as Jesus said to the Apostles, sending them into the world. You are the witnesses of the love of Christ and the love of His Mother and the love of the Church. May God strengthen you and may He bless you. Amen. The first thing people discover at Medjugorje is the ambience and atmosphere of peace and reconciliation... it is an atmosphere of inner peace, peace of the heart... they also discover a huge space of profound spirituality... they rediscover or discover in their lives what it means for something sacred, something holy. In Medjugorje they encounter a sacred time, a sacred space, specially reserved for something divine. 14 th Anniversary of Our Lady s Apparitions at Fatima Medjugorje is a continuation of Fatima. I desire to realise the secrets I began in Fatima may be fulfilled (Medjugorje message 25 Aug 91) In Fatima Our Blessed Mother appeared to three simple shepherd children six times in 1917 so they could warn the world of upcoming trials and tribulations.
