3 learn give Learn Advent at Peachtree Road is filled with wonderful ways to connect: from Carols by Candlelight to the children s Advent workshop to Christmas Kindness, we are blessed with many ways to connect and worship during this holy season. In years past, we have offered a staff-written daily devotional. With attention to stewardship, we have chosen not to offer it this year. We will not leave you without ways to have that personal and family devotional time, however! The church-wide survey indicated a strong desire to try some new things with our publications, specifically with how we approached Advent. With that in mind, we offered the Thrive devotional. From a missional and evangelical perspective, this was a great way to invite folks into the life of the church as the school year began. We loved that piece, and we ve heard wonderful feedback from the congregation as well. Both the financial commitment of publishing the Thrive devotional and the hours of work it required meant that we had to choose where to spend our time and resources. With an increasingly healthy budget, we hope that we can offer three pieces next year (fall, Advent, and Lent). And yet, we know that a time of personal preparation is a special part of the season. In order to encourage our at-home Advent preparation and in connection with the Dogwood Shop, we are offering several Advent devotionals. We hope you ll support the mission of the Dogwood Shop and choose one of these books to guide your Advent readings. Additionally, a small daily devotional published by Cokesbury will be available free of charge around the church. Thank you for sharing this information, and we look forward to a meaningful Advent and Christmas with you. Give Christmas Giving: Believe and Shine At Christmas we are especially aware of those who are searching for the gift of hope. Through our local and global outreach efforts, we are able to provide hope and help with your generosity. We can all shine at Christmastime and be the light of the world for which so many are looking. Be the water that quenches an unending thirst. Be the coat that warms a homeless soul. Be the love that a child has never known. Be the house that shelters a family from a storm. Be the light of Christ and let your good works give glory to God this season. Spread the warmth and love of this church for all the world to see! Make a gift in any amount to our local and global Christmas Outreach programs by using the cards available in the church kioks, or by visiting Christmas Kindness offers a dignified way for Atlantans in need to share the joy of Christmas. We make available toys, coats and household items so families and individuals can celebrate Christmas within their means. Our Christmas Eve Offering provides life-saving clean water in Kenya, shelter in Nicaragua, and love to orphans in the nation of Georgia. Give anytime between now and December 24. Advent & Christmas Flowers The Flower Guild has the privilege of decorating our magnificent Sanctuary during the season of Advent. The congregation is invited to contribute in honor or memory of loved ones to provide flowers and greenery for this glorious time. Envelopes are available in the pews for your gift. You may also mail your gift to the church (designate Flower Guild Christmas), or you may give online at www. prumc.org. End of Year Giving As year-end approaches, finalizing church donations may be on your to-do list. Below are guidelines and information you may find helpful for end-of-year giving: Give at one of the remaining worship services. Mail your check to 3180 Peachtree Rd, NE, Atlanta, GA 30305, postmarked by December 31, Contribute online at click on giving. Use your bank s bill pay system. If giving stock or funds managed by a broker, louisam@prumc.org to obtain wire transfer instructions. Check with your broker, as many have deadlines for processing stock transfers by year end. Bring your gift to the reception desk of the Rollins Center, Monday through Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. You may always contact Louisa Mouchet, Executive Director, at louisam@prumc.org or or Cecelia O Flinn, Contributions at ceceliao@prumc.org, or to arrange giving. 6 Peachtree Road united methodist Church 3180 Peachtree Rd, NE Atlanta, GA Presorted First Class U S Postage P A I D Atlanta, GA Permit No 503 The Season of Advent Advent is a season of four weeks including four Sundays. Advent derives from the Latin adventus, which means coming. The season proclaims the comings of the Christ whose birth we prepare to celebrate once again, who comes continually in Word and Spirit, and whose return in final victory we anticipate. Each year Advent calls the community of faith to prepare for these comings. Purple and blue are the colors of this season symbolizing penitence, royalty and hope. This year, we celebrate The First Carols of Christmas as we listen to the songs of John the Baptist, Angel Gabriel, the Virgin Mary, Simeon the Prophet, and the hillside Angels with the shepherds. Join us throughout the Advent season!
