3 Congregational Prayer A Reading from the Old Testament ESV Gen 2:5-15 When no bush of the field was yet in the land and no small plant of the field had yet sprung up for the LORD God had not caused it to rain on the land, and there was no man to work the ground, and a mist was going up from the land and was watering the whole face of the ground then the LORD God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature. And the LORD God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there he put the man whom he had formed. And out of the ground the LORD God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. A river flowed out of Eden to water the garden, and there it divided and became four rivers. The name of the first is the Pishon. It is the one that flowed around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. And the gold of that land is good; bdellium and onyx stone are there. The name of the second river is the Gihon. It is the one that flowed around the whole land of Cush. And the name of the third river is the Tigris, which flows east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates. The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it. A Reading From the Gospels ESV Luke 16:10-17 One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much. If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches?and if you have not been faithful in that which is another s, who will give you that which is your own? No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate

4 the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all these things, and they ridiculed him. And he said to them, You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God. The Law and the Prophets were until John; since then the good news of the kingdom of God is preached, and everyone forces his way into it. But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one dot of the Law to become void. Pastor: This is the Word of the Lord. Congregation: Thanks be to God. Jesus calls us from the worship Of the vain world s golden store, From each idol that would keep us, Saying, Christian, love Me more! In our joys and in our sorrows, Days of toil and hours of ease, Still He calls, in cares and pleasures, Christian, love Me more than these! Jesus calls us! By Thy mercies, Savior may we hear Thy call, Give our hearts to Thine obedience, Serve and love Thee best of all.

Declaration of Forgiveness Friends, believe the Good News that comes from God: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Sharing of God s Peace Leader: The peace of the Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Our Gifts of Thanksgiving and Worship Jesus Words as He Gave Us the Lord s Supper Pastor: In the night in which He was betrayed our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to His disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me. Again, after supper, He took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the New Testament in my blood, shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this for the remembrance of me. We believe and teach that in the Holy Communion the Lord Jesus gives us His Body and Blood, as His words declare, This is My Body this is My Blood (Mark 14:22-25). We invite all who are baptized and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord, and have been instructed in the Christian faith, to come to the Lord s Table. Fruit of the vine that is non-alcoholic is available upon request. Young children, and those not yet instructed in the Christian Faith, or who otherwise do not wish to partake, may keep their hands folded at the altar rail and receive a blessing.

6 The Lord s Prayer Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen The Post-Communion Blessing Pastor:The Body of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and His holy and precious Blood, strengthen and preserve you in true faith unto life everlasting.
