You're invited to come meet our friends from Christ the King Lutheran Church and St. Michael's Catholic Church on Wednesday, February 27! There will be dinner, a brief time of worship, and some time spent in fellowship together. There is no cost to this event, it lasts from 6-8 pm (doors open at 5:45 pm), and Christ the King is hosting. If you are available to help on the first Wednesday of each month at 7pm, please contact Wes. Ash Wednesday Meal and Service March 6 We will have our monthly Community Meal one week earlier than usual in March to coincide with our Ash Wednesday service. Please mark your calendars for Wednesday evening, March 6 meal at 5:30, service at 6:15pm. Because of this change, we will not have a meal on the second Wednesday in March (March 13). Stay tuned for information about menu information and sign up deadlines for the March 6 meal. A Note of Thanks We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Children's Ministry Team for hosting a baby shower for us. 6 BWIM Month of Preaching 2019 Since 2007, Baptist Women in Ministry (BWIM) has invited Baptist churches to feature women preachers during the month of February. By observing the BWIM Month of Preaching, we publicly voice our support of women in ministry, to be counted with other Baptist churches in celebrating the gifts and calling of women. This year s featured preacher is Rev. Melissa Florer-Bixler. Melissa is pastor of Raleigh Mennonite Church and author of the upcoming book, Fire by Night: Finding God in the Pages of the Old Testament. Her formal education occurred at Gordon College, Duke University, and Princeton Theological Seminary. Melissa is a convinced Mennonite. As an adult, she found herself drawn to Anabaptism s emphasis on consensus decision-making, the priesthood of all believers, peacebuilding, and potlucks. She is a sucker for four-part harmony. She is a board member of L Arche North Carolina. She expends the most time, energy, tears, laughter, fear and patience co-parenting her three children with her spouse, Jacob. We are thrilled to have Rev. Florer-Bixler with us today as we celebrate women in ministry at GFBC!
