FIRST READING: Psalm 19: The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. 2 Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. 3 They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. 4 Yet their voice[b] goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun. 5 It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, like a champion rejoicing to run his course. 6 It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other; nothing is deprived of its warmth. 7 The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. Second Reading: 1 Peter 3:8-18 8Finally, all of you, have unity of spirit, sympathy, love for one another, a tender heart, and a humble mind. 9Do not repay evil for evil or abuse for abuse; but, on the contrary, repay with a blessing. It is for this that you were called that you might inherit a blessing. 10For "Those who desire life and desire to see good days, let them keep their tongues from evil and their lips from speaking deceit; 11let them turn away from evil and do good; let them seek peace and pursue it. 12For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. All the believers were in and ~ Acts 4:32 Translations- Aim to get as close to the original word translation as possible. Translations- Aim to translate the intended meaning of a text from the original languages of Hebrew and Greek. Translations- Aim to reword scripture into contemporary language.

17 Why are there so many versions of the Bible? Sermon Chat These questions are meant to be answered by LIFE Group members and brought to their weekly meeting. These questions will help guide the conversation for the night. Even if you re not in a LIFE Group you can reflect on these questions or find someone discuss them with. 1. Share: Begin with introductions and share highs and lows (best part of your day/week and worst part of your day/week). What version of the Bible do you have at home? Have you ever thought much about translation? Does it matter to you? 2. Read: A familiar verse: a. "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. ~New American Standard Bible b. For God loved the world in this way: [a] He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. ~Holman Christian Standard Bible c. This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. ~ The Message 3. Talk- Which verse did you like the most? Which could you relate to? Did a translation challenge you at all? How has scripture been shared with you in the past? Was it a positive experience? How could scripture be used to welcome the outsider or hurt people? 4. Pray: For those that could use a Good Word in their lives. 5. Bless: Consider offering a blessing between your group. A simple one is: God loves you and so do we.

24 WELCOME TO ELK RIVER LUTHERAN CHURCH! We are a forward-thinking congregation, striving to create community that brings joy and hope. Worshipping together since December 2009, we believe that all people are welcome in the Lord s house, to hear the Word, share the Sacraments, and become strengthened for the life of faith. We are a child friendly congregation and welcome kids with their wiggles and noises in worship. We are also aware that as a parent, time away from wiggles and noises can be a blessing too.
