Emanuel ExpressNews 3058 West Van Buren Ave Chicago, IL phone April s Focus: MANIFESTATION April 2014 Edition FROM PROMISE TO MANIFESTATION reetings in the precious name of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. Thank G you for taking the time to read our latest edition of our monthly church newsletter. I trust that you will be informed and inspired as you glean through the articles and announcements that we have prepared with you in mind. Our ministry theme for the month of April is Manifestation. When we think of manifestation we immediately think of the word manifest, which means to make clear or evident to the eye or the understanding, or to show plainly. From a biblical perspective it simply means to materialize. Pastor Michael & First Lady Anastasia Richardson Inside this issue: First Things First 3 Emanuel s Care Crusade ECO - Youth Empowerment The Heirs of Promise 4 5 Inferiority 8 Ways to Save on Gas The Blessing of Sunday School & Bible April Calendar 12 2 Peter 1:4 reads Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. Someone took the time to count the number of promises that God has made within the Old and New Testament and concluded that there are over 7,000 promises. Though it s good to know that God has made over 7,000 promises for our benefit, it is better to know that unlike the promises we receive from politicians, employers, business partners, friends, family, and even the promises we make to ourselves, that God not only makes promises, He keeps His promises! He stands by his Word. If he said it, you can take it to the bank because He will bring it to pass. Numbers 23:19 reads God is not a man, that He should lie; neither the son of man, that He should repent: hath He said, and shall He not do it? or hath He spoken, and shall He not make it good? When we embrace the powerful truth that God keeps His promises and that He will bring them to pass, it takes our faith to another level. We begin to wait in great expectation for that which God has promised to do. We may not know the time table in which the invisible will become visible or when our dreams, thoughts and desires will become reality, but we know it s on the way. God told the prophet Habakkuk For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry. (Hab. 2:3). FROM PROMISE TO MANIFESTATION: continued on page 2

Emanuel ExpressNews Page 2 Emanuel ExpressNews From Promise to Manifestation continued All I have needed thy hands has provided. Great is thy faithfulness, Lord unto me! The reality is that many of the things that God has promised are manifesting daily. They are daily materializing. They are daily coming to pass. For example Lam 3:22-23 reads It is of the LORD 's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. This means that every morning new mercies are being manifested. Not old mercies but new mercies to give us life, peace, prosperity and a future. It is good to know that God promised healing and blessings, but it is even better to know that because of His mercy He is healing, blessing, restoring, and saving right now!. The song writer said it this way Morning by morning new mercies I see. All I have needed thy hands has provided. Great is thy faithfulness, Lord unto me! Thank God for daily manifestations. Just like there are daily manifestations, there are future manifestations. 1 Cor. 2:9 reads But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him. There are some promises that have not yet been manifested but are waiting to be birthed. The good news is that the delivery date is quickly approaching. The water is breaking and the contractions are coming closer together. I must warn you that as the date of manifestation gets closer, times may get uncomfortable, painful and even discouraging, but I admonish you to press beyond the pain and hold on. You are at the point of manifestation. The invisible is about to become visible. Your dreams are about to become reality. Your prayers are about to be answered! No, this is not the time or place for giving up and throwing in the towel, but this is the time to PUSH. This is the time that you have to press beyond the hurt, the pain and the discouragement and muster all of the strength that lies in you and PUSH That is to say Pray Until Something Happens. Then after you Pray Until Something Happens, push again, but this time, Praise Until Something Happens. Recording artist Pastor Norman Hutchins sings a song entitled A Move of God is on the Way. The lyrics are I feel a breakthrough coming your way, it's a mighty move of God, it's gonna change your day. With signs and wonders, miracles to perform, God is gonna bless you for just holding on. During this month of manifestation, I encourage you to keep on holding, pushing, praying and praising Him until your breakthrough comes through! A move of God is on the way and today may be your day! Be Blessed, Pastor Richardson

April 2014 Edition Page 3 Submitted by District Msny. Anastasia Richardson O n the 2nd Sunday, March 9th we held our second D. A. Reed Sr. District Women s Meeting one hour before the scheduled District Meeting. A light snack (turkey sandwiches, chips, cookies and water) was provided. The women came together to go over the business of the district and the jurisdiction. We also talked from an article written by J. Lee Grady, who writes for Charisma Magazine. The article was entitled 10 Men Christian Woman Should Not Marry. This article raised some very valuable points. It admonished the single women who are desirous of marriage to be patient and wait until God sends the right guy for you. We ended our meeting by reviewing the first chapter of a book that was recommended for group reading during our previous meeting entitled Living in the Pink. by Sharon Tubbs. We expect to go deeper into the next chapters in our next meeting. After our Women s Meeting we went directly into our District Meeting. Our Superintendent David A. Reed gave the service over to the women s department for the evening. Missionary Sherry Swan was our facilitator and what a wonderful job she did! The choir was outstanding and our speaker for the evening was Sis. Laurie Reed from Reed s Temple COGIC. Her subject was Firm Faith Yields a Promising Future. Thanks to all the women of the district that were able to attend both sessions, you helped make this day a success. On Friday night, March 14 th the Emanuelite ladies got together for a night of fun and fellowship. This meeting was all about sitting back, relaxing and having some one-on-one time with the women of the church. Most of us work and are so busy with our personal lives that we don t get a chance to fellowship with one another. We had a great turnout and most of the ladies pitched in and brought a dish. The spread consisted of a tossed salad, fried chicken, baked turkey, meatballs, Italian sausages, corn casserole, a fruit salad, cookies, cake, chips and dip, pop, water, ice cream, etc. It was a great spread! After we had a bite to eat, we had several games that allowed us to interact with each other. As we reflected upon the busyness of our days, we talked about how important it is to have quite time. Taking a little time out of your day to just do nothing and also to make sure that we schedule time to listen to the voice of the Lord. The highlight of the night was our Family Feud game. Kudos goes to Sister Latoya Gipson who pulled it together for us! We had a great time of laughter and fun. Thanks to all the ladies that pulled away from their families and busy schedules to come share and fellowship with the ladies of the church.

Page 4 EMANUEL S CARE CRUSADE Emanuel means God is with us and so it is that the mission of the Emanuel Care Crusade is to recognize that our sick and shut-in are in need of compassion. As it says in Isaiah 49:13 for the Lord hath comforted His people, and will have mercy upon His afflicted. We the members of the Emanuel Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of Pastor Michael A. Richardson, endeavor to extend care by way of phone calls, cards, prayers and God s love to those who are stricken, afflicted, in bereavement or may be unable to fulfill their desire of physically attending a church service to hear what thus saith the Lord. This is the mission of the team of members, put together by our President Sister Paula Kelly, to reach out to show love to our members. Her team consists of: Sister Yolanda Hopkins, Sister Connie Banks, Missionary Alayna Johnson, Deacon Anthony Redditt and Sister Cynthia Redditt. Although this crusade was officially formed in the month of February, to date there have been many phone calls placed, many hearts encouraged and many spirits lifted. This team has even made a home visit to none other than our church mother, Mother Ophelia Turner. It made our hearts glad to see her beautiful smile and Mother Turner s heart was filled with joy to see her church members walk through her door just to see her! In many cases, all one needs is this simple act of love and kindness that speaks volumes. God is truly blessing this ministry in a tremendous way. It is so Godly rewarding when we see the people we have reached out to, walk through the doors of the church! Please know that our Pastor, Michael Richardson sincerely loves and cares for his members and he gave his blessings to the Emanuel Care Crusade to fulfill his desire. So, whether by phone, or other avenues, the Emanuel Care Crusade will be contacting you should we not see your lovely smile grace our Sunday church service. Your presence is important to the Pastor, but most of all, your presence is important for your soul and to God! And for the members of the Emanuel Care Crusade, it is truly a blessing to extend love, compassion and encouragement to God s people! Humbly submitted, Sister Yolanda Hopkins, Vice President Emanuel ExpressNews

April 2014 Edition Page 5 During the Saturday session, I was refreshed and introduced to a lot of important information to help one get and maintain a job. First, Ms. Carmen talked about staying focused. She said it was important for us to keep our personal life and work life COMPLETELY separate. Taking your personal problems to the workplace, or vice versa, will result in problems that could be easily avoided. Next, she talked about asking questions. She said it was important to ask questions and accept guidance, direction, and advice so that we can meet and exceed our job s requirements and expectations. Then she talked about work related stress. I learned that it is important for you to stay calm during stressful situations. I also learned from Sister Keeya Thomas when she said, don t join in with the madness. She taught us that even though you and your co-workers might share the same feelings about your boss, it is important to keep your thoughts and feelings to yourself because it might come back to haunt you in the end. We also had mock interviews and were critiqued on how we can improve for future interviews. This session was full of information. I enjoyed my time at the presentation and I learned a lot of information that will definitely help me in the future to increase my performance at the workplace. Damion Hardy 22 ECO S YOUTH EMPOWERMENT JOB TRAINING WORKSHOP he empowerment job training was great. The presenter was amazing, although there weren't many T people there to benefit from the information that was presented. She interacted well with us on a personal level and let us know that hard work and diligence on the job is a must and can build character. They also can lead to stability on the job. She explained that having and keeping a positive attitude was a must on the job. We were told that we are in control of our attitude and no one else. We determine if we want to be negative or positive. The experience was great and I hope we have another training session so more people can take advantage of the opportunity. We learned that getting rest and not playing video games all night then going to work tired was expected. We can do extra and volunteer letting our employer know they can count on us. Thank you to the outreach department for giving us the opportunity to open our eyes to new things and helping to prepare us for the real world. Empowering youth for the work place was the title of the session. At the end of the session I felt like I had more information and understanding to move forward in an interview and land the job! I left feeling empowered! Getting a job is one thing, retaining it is another. Tim Johnson 18

Page 6 Emanuel ExpressNews The Ministers and Workers Meeting of First Jurisdiction of IL under the capable leadership of our Jurisdictional Prelate Bishop Ocie Booker and Jurisdictional Supervisor of Women, Mother Shirley Hughes commenced Monday March 11 through Friday March15, 7:30 nightly. The meeting traveled to different churches each night offering the saints a worship experience that was second to none. The First Jurisdiction IL Mass Choir under the newly appointed Minister of Music Minister Cornelius Doles and newly appointed Choir President Tamela Reed blessed us each night with some of the most melodious songs of praise and worship on this side of heaven. We clapped our hands, patted our feet, lifted our voices and gave God the praises that He is due. The meeting opened at Faith Temple Church of God in Christ in Evanston, Illinois where Bishop Carlis Moody Sr. was the host Pastor. The main message for the evening was from our own Jurisdictional AIM Chairman, Second Assistant Superintendent Michael A. Richardson, Pastor of the Emanuel Church of God in Christ. Pastor Richardson's text was taken from I Samuel 30:6, where David, Israel's anointed and future King, faced the dilemma of going to battle against the Amalekites. All of the things that he and his men loved and cherished where stolen by an enemy, both possessions, wives and children and carried away captive, from Ziklag. His subject was "Recovering it All." If we are going to experience recovery, & restoration we must have the drive and determination to move towards those things that we once had with passion! We must hold on to the vision and not let the enemy of our souls steal our joy in times of adversity and storms. The second night of meeting convened on the west side of Chicago at the at The People's Church of the Harvest where our own Third Administrative Assistant Superintendent Michael Eaddy, serves as Pastor. The main message for the evening was delivered by Pastor David Cullom, the pastor of New Heaven and Earth COGIC. His subject was "We Should be Working While We are Waiting on the Promise". His main scriptural text was taken from the book of Hebrews 10:35. He spoke of holding on to our confidence as it relates to the things of God, knowing that the just shall live by faith. We must not draw back once we have begun a work for the Lord. God will reward us if we are found doing the will of God without compromise. On the third night of the meeting the service was held at Outreach Church of God in Christ in Harvey Illinois, where Superintendent James Sims, serves as Pastor and was our gracious Host. This night was women s night. This was the night we came to be a blessing to our newly appointed Jurisdictional Supervisor, the Sainted Mother Shirley Hughes. The main message was from Mother Eleanor Harrington who was just appointed the night before by Bishop Booker as First Jurisdiction IL s Supervisor without Charge. Her scriptural text was taken from Proverbs 17:17. Her subject was "Adversity an Avenue for Spiritual Growth." When the Believer encounters adversity, we should not HEIRS: Continued on page 7

Page 7 Emanuel ExpressNews HEIRS: continued from page 6 become discouraged but see it as an opportunity for spiritual growth. While none of us are immune to some type of adversity, having all experienced it to some degree, we must know that God allows it to get our attention and perfect us. This wonderful evening concluded with a special presentation to Mother Harrington from our Bishop in recognition of her new title. Supervisor Without Charge. She received a beautifully detailed Certificate of Recognition that personified all of the wonderful qualities that she possesses. It was truly a blessed and wonderful worship experience for all who were blessed to attend! The Gospel message for the evening was brought to us by Pastor Isaac Bailey who hails all the way from Milwaukee Wisconsin, and is the Shepherd of The Ark of the New Covenant Church of God in Christ. Pastor Bailey directed our attention to his scriptural text, Exodus 17:7-16. His subject was "Tired but still Fighting!". He spoke of the Israelites on their way to Mount Sinai and having to go into battle against the Amalekites. Moses was yet alive but advanced in years, and Joshua his successor was in the midst of the battle against this enemy. When we become tired and weary on the battlefield for the Lord, we must remember that we did not get into the battle to quit, or throw in the towel! Like Muhammad Ali wore out his enemy on the ropes, we must do the same to the devil. We must rest on the ropes of the Lord and keep on swinging! We must remember that we are in it to win it! Though we may get weary we must keep on fighting! The fourth night of the meeting was held at the historic, St. Paul Church of God in Christ where Bishop Charles M. Ford serves as Pastor. Elder Leo Harold, from the Peoples Church of the Harvest, where 3rd Administrative Assistant Michael Eaddy is pastor, was honored as the Elder of the Year and received the distinguished Bishop Ocie Booker Award and a cash award of $ Elder Harold was chosen because of his faithfulness and diligence in the work of the Sunday School Department for 43 years. May the Lord continuously bless him with many more years of service in First Jurisdiction! The last night marked the climax of this great meeting. Once again we gathered at our Jurisdictional Headquarters, the historic St. Paul Church of God in Christ. This was the night we came to hear from our leader, Bishop Ocie Booker. 8 Page 8 Emanuel ExpressNews Our youth have been studying from the subject of INFERIORITY. When asked to throw out names of those who they feel are experiencing inferiority complexes these celebrity names were thrown out by our youth with an explanation as to why. (These are the thoughts of our youth based on their feedback.) Marilyn Monroe, loved attention, insecure even though presidents worshipped her, a drug addict, overdosed, died, couldn't handle the pressures of trying to please others. Justin Bieber, a heart throb, shaking childish qualities, shaking people's expectations, inferior, doing all he can to be more than he is, not good enough, needs attention. Kanye West, acts like a god, thinks and makes himself bigger than he is, conceited, over compensates, needs attention. Miley Cyrus, shaking childish behavior, shaking childish look, didn't fit in with others, needs attention. Michael Jackson, his own race inferior, lacked a childhood, nose jobs, didn't like his skin color, owned his own theme park, wanted children of a different race, needed attention. Beyoncé, Lana del Rey both change their names to take on personalities different from their normal selves to fit in becoming gritty and at times explicit. Attention seekers. Not who they portray themselves to be in real life. Other names thrown out were Amy Winehouse, Whitney Houston and the actor from Glee. They determined that these actors had inferiority complexes because they didn't appear to be really happy with who they were born to be. They all in one way or another have done different things to fit in regardless of the cost. Low self esteem, poor self image, leads to changing what you look like, where you go and what you do to fit in. Inferiority can cause one to get high, have sex, go where we shouldn't be, allow a girl or boy to beat on us, hang with those we shouldn't, and not accept our way of escape when trying to fit in. The Bible tells us to come out from among them in 2 Cor. We're to be different, not fight to fit in. We must realize that God loves us just the way we are. So praise Him for it! He created us! Does that mean don't change? No, not at all. Just don't compare yourself with others and don't let what they think of you determine who you are or will become! MyLeah Matheny a 15 yr old at Emanuel had this to say about change, "There are some things we all don't quite like about ourselves, some things we wish we could change, but there are things we can do to make ourselves feel better and own what we've been given. Pray, buy a new top, go to a movie, study what makes us different and why we stand out. Simply embrace ourselves for who we are. Learn ourselves!" You are an original, designed by the Master's hands! If God doesn't create any two snowflakes the same, why do we want to be like someone else. Inferiority comes when we compare ourselves with others as found in 2 Cor 10:12 and then we should put away envy as found in 1 Peter 2:1. According to MyLeah, "In order to get over the inferiority complex you have to realize the good things God has blessed you with". As youth our self image must come from God. The Bible says we were created in His image in Genesis 1:27. Then the Bible says, that we are fearfully and wonderfully made Psalm 139:14. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. INFERIORITY: continued on page 9

April 2014 Edition Page 9 HEIRS: continued from page 7 THE HEIRS OF THE PROMISE During the service, the Power of God moved in an unprecedented way and a spontaneous altar call was made, as the Saints began to fill the altar. Our Prelate led the Saints in a hymn of praise letting us know that we "must" recognize the Spirit of God, and when the Holy Ghost speaks everything else must be quiet". Bishop Booker spoke on our theme for the Ministers and Workers meeting 2014, which was "The Heirs of Promise". His subject for the evening was "God keeps His Promises." He encouraged us to know that we should not allow adversity or trouble of any kind to make us feel that God is not nearby. He said that God made us a promise to never leave or forsake us, and it is an unconditional promise. The Bishop said that God does keep His promises, and we must not let what we're dealing with cause our faith to waiver. God can change your situation overnight! In the process of time God did answer Abraham, after he endured and patiently waited on God to answer. He told the host of clergy assembled, that even if you feel like your ministry isn't growing the way that it ought to and things may even be on a downward spiral, don't let your ups and downs determine where you are with God! Your worst hour is when God is going to bless you. Your greatest disappointment is just before God is about to elevate you. Bishop Booker shared many wonderful truths and nuggets that blessed us in a tremendous way. The close of the meeting was an awe inspiring display of God's power and presence. He blessed us mightily during our Ministers and Workers Conference for We should all be encouraged, ready, and though tired, keep on fighting through our adversities to move ministry forward in our Churches with power, faith and the anointing of God, no matter what we may have to face while waiting for an answer to our prayers. Knowing that if we endure and keep looking to God no matter what comes, then we can truly be Heirs of Promise! (Check out under media page to hear messages and songs throughout the week.) Submitted by Missionary Viveca Williams INFERIORITY: continued from page 8 Yes, we'll be talked about, ridiculed, called names and teased but we must be patient and let God do a perfect work in us. "We must realize we're worth more than gold and it's worth is on the rise.", according to MyLeah. In John the Bible says, my sheep hear my voice and a stranger they will not follow! Don't follow the crowd. Spend time in God's word now, and you won't get tricked by the green grass on the other side. Know what God is saying to you. Learn His voice. Know Him and His will for your life. When He speaks then you move. Be grateful for who He created you to be. Any other way and you compromise! Submitted by Missionary Alayna Johnson

Page 10 Emanuel ExpressNews Food for Thought & Quotes to Ponder If in 2013, You didn't have a strong finish, Ask God for strong faith and don't let it diminish. He's always by your side, Wanting to lead you and be your guide. If you follow in His footsteps, with faith and grace, you will be victorious in every race. Exert full speed ahead, with lots of prayerful steam and you will finish strong in 2014!!!! Be Blessed! Submitted by: Sister Christine Owens Jones Ways to Save on Gas Keep your car maintained. By keeping up with regular maintenance your car will run more efficiently and burn less fuel. This includes regular oil changes, air filter replacement and properly inflated tires. Drive Carefully. Aggressive driving leads to increased acceleration and braking that can use unnecessary gas. Try to maintain a steady speed for as long as possible. Change Your Daily Commute. If you commute through heavy stop and go rush hour traffic you might consider driving to and from work an hour or so earlier or later in order to miss the rush. Avoiding this type of traffic can not only save gas but also create a less stressful drive. Combine errands. Plan your travel in a way that maximizes your time on the road. If you can plan trips to the grocery store, dry cleaners or any other errands so that they are part of your daily commute. There is no need to make a separate trip if you pass these locations on a daily basis. Submitted by: Sis. Turia Neal

April 2014 Edition The Blessing of Sunday School & Bible Study Page 11 A wise man once told me If you want to be a good leader you must learn how to be a good follower. This same wise man told me If you really want to know your Bible come to Sunday School and Bible study. I recently made a transition from another C.O.G.I.C where my foundation and roots started from Sunday School and Bible class to Emanuel C.OG.I.C where the Lord is watering what has been planted. I have been a member of Emanuel for about four months now, and I have been saved for nine years. I joined back in December of 2013, and since then the Lord has taken my relationship with him to new levels. How? Through my faithfulness to Sunday School and Bible class. Sunday School has been such a blessing to me. We have an anointed Woman of God who is well versed in the word of God teaching the young adult class. Missionary Viveca Williams teaches Sunday School in a way that challenges you to go out into the world, and put into practice what you have learned. The Lord had challenged me a month ago with some of the lessons we had studied. For two weeks we talked about how to respond to the poor, and how dear they are to the Lord. I took those lesson to heart, and the test came! I was doing jury duty one week, and we were in recess. I was sitting in the Thompson Center in downtown Chicago having lunch, and I noticed a gentlemen begging for money to get something to eat. I watched as many turned him away. Finally, he made his way over to the section where I was having my lunch. I watched as he slowly made his way to me as others turned him away. At that moment, I began to feel the love of God rise up in my heart, and the Holy Ghost began to take over. When he got to me, he said Miss can you give me a dollar I am trying to get something to eat, or can you just buy me a small entree bowl from Panda Express? I told him Sir whatever you want off that menu it s yours. Here I am, I didn t have very much myself, but I was willing to share what I did have with someone who had a need right then and there. As we were in line placing his order, I used that as an open door to share the gospel with him. He began to tell me that he knows there is a God because he has overcome many illnesses, and I began to let him know that God needed him to be closer to Him, and that the Lord has a better life for him. As I continued to speak to him about Jesus, the next thing I knew he reached out and hugged me. Now you may be wondering oh my goodness no he didn t? I know you pushed him away or moved back? This is where the test came. The answer to your question is NO! In fact, I did just the opposite. I hugged him back. Yes, people looked at me funny because I embraced a man who was dirty and poor, but the love of God in me wouldn t allow me to pull back. It was through that hug I prayed that he had felt the master s love and concern for him. As he walked away a lady that had been watching the whole time looked me dead in my eyes and said God bless you! This pronouncement felt a little different than the rest. I felt like it was an angel watching me the whole time. That day I knew my heavenly Father was proud of me. That day I felt like He was bragging to the angels about his daughter, and how well He has raised me. I have Sunday School, and a great teacher to thank for that! Bible Study has been a great blessing to me as well. My Pastor is doing an AWESOME job on exposing who the devil is, and how the saints can defeat him. I have learned so much more about my spiritual enemy, and therefore, I have been able to better equip myself for the battle that s at hand. Bible Study for me is like having one on one time with my Leader. I can ask him questions and get answers that I can t get on a Sunday morning while he s in the pulpit preaching. Bible class is the time when he is more personal with the flock, and he is able to spoon feed us in a way that can t be done on a Sunday morning. I said all this to say that if you ever want to be great for the Lord, or ever plan on teaching others the word of God stop by Sunday School and Bible Study. Your training grounds starts there. I promise you won t be disappointed. Submitted by Sis. Connie Banks
