2 Immanuel Lutheran Church September 23, 2018 Immanuel means God with us (Matthew 1:23) Welcome!! We re glad God has brought you to Immanuel today! We trust that God will meet you here this morning in the hearing of God s word proclaimed for you, in the lifting of our hearts and voices in song and prayer, and in fellowship that we share in the crucified and risen one, Jesus Christ. Immanuel is part of the North American Lutheran Church (NALC). Our Core Values include being Christ-Centered, Mission-Driven, Traditionally-Grounded and Congregationally-Focused. Holy Communion is celebrated on the first and third Sundays of the month as well as other special occasions of the church year. If you are baptized and have received instruction concerning the Lord s Supper, you are welcome to receive this sacrament here. If you would like to learn about either baptism or communion, please speak with the pastor before the service or check the box on the worship registration form to schedule an appointment. Only nonalcoholic wine is used in communion at Immanuel. Moms and Dads, we love children and we welcome children to worship with you and the whole congregation. If you so desire, we do have a nursery the room with the large window next to the Library at the back of the sanctuary. In there is a rocking chair, toys, as well as a speaker and large window so you can see and hear the service. Your kids may enjoy the activity bags on the rack at the back of the church. To learn more about Immanuel please be sure to fill out the worship registration slip on the back page of your bulletin and place it in the offering plate or fill out the guest registry located in the church entry. Restroom facilities are located in the church entry (the narthex). When walking out of the sanctuary take a left and they are at the end of the short hallway. Join us for a snack and a cup of coffee or juice immediately following our worship service where we can greet you more personally. 2

We thank you in all humility for Your Grace through our Lord Jesus Christ. May our praises this morning reflect our love for You and for what you have done for us through Your Son. We welcome You, Almighty and Ever-Living God into the sanctuary of our hearts. May Your Holy Spirit speak to us and transform our lives so that we may become more and more of what You have intended us to be. Amen. Time of Confession and Forgiveness Pastor ALL Pastor Most merciful God, We confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your Holy Name. Amen. In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for his sake God forgives us all our sins. As a called and ordained minister of the church of Christ, and by his authority, I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. The Gospel Lesson John 18: Then Pilate entered the headquarters again, summoned Jesus, and asked him, "Are you the King of the Jews?" 34 Jesus answered, "Do you ask this on your own, or did others tell you about me?" 35 Pilate replied, "I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests have handed you over to me. What have you done?" 36 Jesus answered, "My kingdom is not from this world. If my kingdom were from this world, my followers would be fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not from here." 37 Pilate asked him, "So you are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice." 38 Pilate asked him, "What is truth?" After he had said this, he went out to the Jews again and told them, "I find no case against him. 6 Confession of Faith: The Apostle s Creed C: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day He rose again. He ascended in heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. We confess our faith in worship as a witness to visitors what we believe, to remind and encourage the down trodden in faith of our hope, and because of St. Paul s words how with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. Collection of the Offering In obedience to God s command to His people throughout the ages and in accord with the example set by the early church, we collect an offering in thanksgiving to God for what He s first given us, to care for the needs of our neighbors and to support the ministry of the Church both locally and globally (Deuteronomy 6:1-13, Acts 2:45, 1 Corinthians 16:1-2, 2 Corinthians 8:1-5; 9). 10 CHRISTIAN EDUCATION CLASSES FORMING AT 9:15A.M. Grace Hall comes alive: Sunday mornings find a class that spikes your interest! Gather in room 1, the coffee room is open at 8:45AM for coffee and conversation for everyone. There are lots of devotionals available for private reflection while you serve yourself coffee from the Keurig and relax before class begins. 9:15AM Fall Classes Begin in Grace Hall! These are your choices: Room 1: Karl Nielsen will lead a group of young adults in a true Bible Study Discussion. Room 2: John Jensen will be a gathering of those interested in a bible study about Worship for next 3 weeks this class discussions will be on getting the most out of worship through Jesus (Luke 20:20-26, 45-47; 21:1-4) living worship, (Romans 12:1-8) and fulfillment (Revelation 21:1-8). Conference Room: Mike Nielsen will lead a class by the famous pastor, Andy Stanley titled Go Fish starting on September 23 rd! Next Week those interested in the Andy Stanley study will kick-off the new season with a back to class breakfast potluck in the social hall. See Sandy Marthedal for questions about the potluck. Room 3: Preschool through 5 th Grade with Eli Cisneros for music and fun stories about Jesus and his disciples. Upstairs in Grace Hall Room 5: Confirmation class students in 6 th - 8 th grades meet with Pastor Saethre. He will be teaching from The Divine Drama material using visuals and books. Books will be provided at no cost. Also, confirmation students are expected to attend worship. Pastor John will be preaching on the Lord s Prayer, which is a vital part of confirmation learning. Room 4: High School Students meet with Jacob in the High School Room with intriguing facts about Jesus and the Bible.
