21 Days of Prayer and Fasting 29 January 18 February 2018 Encouragement By Marius Gradwell On the 22nd April 2017 I went for surgery and consequently was out of commission for about 12 weeks. I have not attended any church Sunday celebrations or any other church meetings during this time. I spent most of my time on by back with my leg up in the air. It was a time of deep reflection and encounter with God. I re-discovered the reality that God lives in me and that everything I need to fulfil my purpose for living and existence is already within me. There is no need to beg and convince God to bless and favour me. My faith does not move God. God moved more than 2000 years ago! Faith is needed to access and take hold of what was already given and promised to me. I was no longer going to beg and cry out to God to visit me, but rather acknowledge the fact that I am a habitation of God and that He is resident in me. At my return to church life and ministry I immediately became aware of a noise all around me. I felt quite disturbed by it but didn t understand what was wrong. I thought that I was experiencing some difficulty in re-adjusting to normality. During one of my first sermons I made the following prophetic utterance there is too much clutter around, it is time to declutter! I was surprised by the words I spoke. I reflected and meditated on this word for a couple of weeks. I also had some discussions with various people in response to this word. In a way the impact of the word faded and I continued to minister on the themes of Having faith in what God has placed within you and Camping at the Goodness of God. During one of my prayer times with God I enquired of Him to know what His plans were for I experienced a rebuke from the Lord as He raised the fact that there was a need to declutter. The Lord said to me that when He said that there was a need to declutter, He was not merely making an observation but giving me an instruction. I quickly repented. I asked the Holy Spirit; Where is declutter mentioned in the Bible? Suddenly the Holy Spirit flooded me with many quotations from the Word of God. 1

Furthermore the Holy Spirit expanded by giving me the reason for the need to declutter. He said we need to make room for what is important. I pray that you will truly experience an encounter with God as you dedicate this 21 days journey to the Lord. I pray that you will be hungry and bold to step into what God your Father has already blessed you with! Prayer and Fasting Guidelines Introduction Fasting connects you to God. When properly motivated, fasting demonstrates faith and commitment to God and leads to a deeper relationship with Him. Fasting is one of the least popular and least practiced spiritual disciplines. There are no hard-set rules for fasting, but there are some guidelines you can follow. Avoid improper motives Don't fast in order to impress other people. Matthew 6:16 Don't fast in order to improve your health or lose weight. In most cases, don't ignore fasting because of health concerns. Six scriptural motives for fasting 1. You should fast to draw closer to your heavenly Father. Matthew 6:18 2. You should fast to hear from God. Acts 13:2 3. You should fast to intercede for others. Psalm 35:13 4. You should fast as an act of repentance. Joel 1: You should fast for strength and direction. Acts 14:23 6. You should fast as an act of worship. Luke 2:37 Methods of fasting We have called for a 21 days fast. Be careful to avoid an increased focus on food by the fast you select for this period. There are different ways to approach the fast. Consider one of the following: 1. Total abstinence of food, drinking water only. You may do this for 21 days or you could even fit 2 or 3 shorter periods in the 21 days. 2. Another option is to only eat vegetables and fruit. Referred to as a Daniel s Fast. 3. Eating only one humble meal per day after sunset. 2

Final suggestions Fast from a specific pleasure (TV, Media, pizza, Coke, Coffee, etc.) Encourage your young children to join in the fast by explaining to them why you are fasting and encourage them to abstain from sweets for the 21 days. Drink a lot of water. Take a prayer-walk when you get hungry. Schedule daily times of prayer. Meet with a prayer partner. Participate in the scheduled prayer times at church. When your fast ends, resume your eating habits carefully. Make use of a journal and write down the things the Lord is saying to you. Don't be legalistic maintain your focus on connecting with God. Expect results. Matthew 6:18 You may want to make use of a Devotional. I recommend YouVersion Bible App. Under Plans select Declutter Now! 30 Day Devotional Take into account our Prophetic Theme for 2018 COTN Family TIME OF ACCELERATION Yes indeed, it won t be long now. God s Decree Things are going to happen so fast your head will swim, one thing fast on the heels of the other. You won t be able to keep up. Everything will be happening at once and everywhere you look, blessings! Amos 9:13 MSG God is saying, I have brought you and positioned you at this place for this time. Find your space and your place quickly! For I am going to put all of what I ve spoken in the previous years together and create a momentum that will propel and accelerate the Body of Christ into a position of favour, authority and power, that will give God the glory and produce an amazing harvest. It is very important that we understand that it is NOT our own power, effort or acceleration that we refer to, but the divine enablement, empowerment, energising and quickening of the Lord! It s His anointing that enables you. The God of fine design, intelligent progression and process causes an acceleration that supersedes natural laws! So, he answered and said to me: This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: NOT BY MIGHT NOR BY POWER, BUT BY MY SPIRIT, Says the LORD of hosts. Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain! And he shall bring forth the capstone with shouts of GRACE, GRACE to it! 3

Zechariah 4:6-7 NKJV We are trusting that as we ALIGN with God and His Word, we will see an ACCELERATION in all the Kingdom spheres, the church and also in our personal lives, that will give Him Glory! Declutter Make room for what is important Our lives full of clutter, are often not free to respond to the promptings of the Holy Spirit or the needs of those we serve. The secret to successful decluttering is that you have a vision for the life you want to live! Excess clutter will waste your time and focus. And worse, it is the enemy of availability. The beginning of the year is a great time to declutter. We encourage you to allow the Holy Spirit to highlight the areas in your life that needs to be decluttered so that you may make room for what God wants to do in your life. Be careful not to approach this time and process as a new year s resolution or a physical discipline only. It is important that you partner with the Holy Spirit to maximise the scheduled 21 days of prayer and fasting. Let us have a closer look at the phrase: Declutter make room for what is important! It is important to ask the Why question first before you get into the How question. The Why? Why must I declutter? The answer: To make room for what is important. Clutter suffocates and threatens what is important in your life. Just like one needs to get rid of the ashes to keep a fire burning, you also need to get rid of clutter to have your life stoked with fire and passion. A plant or tree needs enough room to grow in to be healthy and fruitful; it is the same for your life as well. The How? The instruction is: Make room! How will I make room? By Decluttering - Definition: Remove unnecessary items from an untidy or overcrowded place. To simplify or get rid of mess, disorder, complications, etc. Tough Questions Honest Answers 1. Scriptures suggesting decluttering and making room for what is important! 1. Don t worry seek first the Kingdom of God. Matthew 6:31-34 NKJV "Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' (32) For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. (33) But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. (34) Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. 2. God prunes more fruit! John 15:1-8 NKJV "I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. (2) Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. (3) You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. (4) Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. (5) "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. (6) If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. (7) If you 7

abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. (8) By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. 3. Forgetting those things which are behind reaching forward to the things ahead. Philippians 3:7-15 NKJV But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. (8) Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ (9) and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; (10) that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, (11) if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead. (12) Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. (13) Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, (14) I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. (15) Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you. 4. Lay aside every weight focus on Jesus. Hebrews 12:1-13 NKJV Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, (2) looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (3) For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls. (4) You have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin. (5) And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: "MY SON, DO NOT DESPISE THE CHASTENING OF THE LORD, NOR BE DISCOURAGED WHEN YOU ARE REBUKED BY HIM; (6) FOR WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE CHASTENS, AND SCOURGES EVERY SON WHOM HE RECEIVES." (7) If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? (8) But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons. (9) Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live? (10) For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness. (11) Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. (12) Therefore strengthen the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees, (13) and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed. 5. Share your possessions with others. Acts 2:42-47 NKJV And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. (43) Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. (44) Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, (45) and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need. (46) So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, (47) praising God and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved. 6. Simplicity. 8

2 Corinthians 1:12 NKJV For our boasting is this: the testimony of our conscience that we conducted ourselves in the world in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom but by the grace of God, and more abundantly toward you. 2 Corinthians 11:2-3 NKJV For I am jealous for you with godly jealousy. For I have betrothed you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. (3) But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. 7. Put off Put on. Ephesians 4:17-32 NKJV This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, (18) having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; (19) who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. (20) But you have not so learned Christ, (21) if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: (22) that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, (23) and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, (24) and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. (25) Therefore, putting away lying, "LET EACH ONE OF YOU SPEAK TRUTH WITH HIS NEIGHBOR," for we are members of one another. (26) "BE ANGRY, AND DO NOT SIN": do not let the sun go down on your wrath, (27) nor give place to the devil. (28) Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labour, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need. (29) Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. (30) And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. (31) Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamour, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. (32) And be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you. 8. Declutter your mind Meditate on God s Word. Joshua 1:8-9 NKJV This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. (9) Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go." 1 Timothy 4:13-16 NKJV Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. (14) Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership. (15) Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all. (16) Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you. 9. Set your mind on God s agenda not worldly agendas. Colossians 3:1-17 NKJV If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. (2) Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. (3) For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. (4) When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. (5) Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. (6) Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, (7) in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them. (8) But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, 9

malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. (9) Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, (10) and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, (11) where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all. (12) Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; (13) bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. (14) But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. (15) And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. (16) Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. (17) And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. 10. Distracted by many things one thing is needed sitting at Jesus feet. Luke 10:38-42 NKJV Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. (39) And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus' feet and heard His word. (40) But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, "Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me." (41) And Jesus answered and said to her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. (42) But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her." 11. The priority of God s Kingdom. Matthew 13:44-46 NKJV "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. (45) "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, (46) who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it. 12. Don t waste your time live wisely. Ephesians 5:14-17 NKJV Therefore He says: "Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light." (15) See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, (16) redeeming the time, because the days are evil. (17) Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 13. Don t let the ways of the world mould your way of thinking and living: Renew your mind know God s will do God s will. Romans 12:1-2 NKJV I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. (2) And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. 14. Be rich toward God don t lay-up treasures for yourself. Luke 12:13-21 NKJV Then one from the crowd said to Him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me." (14) But He said to him, "Man, who made Me a judge or an arbitrator over you?" (15) And He said to them, "Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses." (16) Then He spoke a parable to them, saying: "The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully. (17) And he thought within himself, saying, 'What shall I do, since I 10

have no room to store my crops?' (18) So he said, 'I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods. (19) And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry." ' (20) But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?' (21) "So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God." Matthew 6:19-32 NKJV "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; (20) but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. (21) For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (22) "The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. (23) But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness! (24) "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. (25) "Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? (26) Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? (27) Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? (28) "So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; (29) and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. (30) Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? (31) "Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' (32) For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 15. Heavenly Treasure. Mark 10:17-27 NKJV Now as He was going out on the road, one came running, knelt before Him, and asked Him, "Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?" (18) So Jesus said to him, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. (19) You know the commandments: 'DO NOT COMMIT ADULTERY,' 'DO NOT MURDER,' 'DO NOT STEAL,' 'DO NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS,' 'Do not defraud,' 'HONOR YOUR FATHER AND YOUR MOTHER.'" (20) And he answered and said to Him, "Teacher, all these things I have kept from my youth." (21) Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, "One thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me." (22) But he was sad at this word, and went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. (23) Then Jesus looked around and said to His disciples, "How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!" (24) And the disciples were astonished at His words. But Jesus answered again and said to them, "Children, how hard it is for those who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God! (25) It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." (26) And they were greatly astonished, saying among themselves, "Who then can be saved?" (27) But Jesus looked at them and said, "With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible." 16. Contentment. 1 Timothy 6:6-10 NKJV Now godliness with contentment is great gain. (7) For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. (8) And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. (9) But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. (10) For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. 11

17. Guard your heart - Deal with your emotional clutter. Proverbs 4:23-27 NLT Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. (24) Avoid all perverse talk; stay away from corrupt speech. (25) Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you. (26) Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path. (27) Don't get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil. Proverbs 15:13-18 NLT A glad heart makes a happy face; a broken heart crushes the spirit. (14) A wise person is hungry for knowledge, while the fool feeds on trash. (15) For the despondent, every day brings trouble; for the happy heart, life is a continual feast. (16) Better to have little, with fear for the LORD, than to have great treasure and inner turmoil. (17) A bowl of vegetables with someone you love is better than steak with someone you hate. (18) A hot-tempered person starts fights; a cool-tempered person stops them. 18. The Good Shepherd restores your soul - learn to be quiet. Psalm 23:1-6 NKJV A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. (2) He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. (3) He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name's sake. (4) Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. (5) You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. (6) Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever. 19. Godly balance and wisdom. Ecclesiastes 3:6 NKJV A time to gain, And a time to lose; A time to keep, And a time to throw away; 20. Eternal perspective the unseen. 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 NKJV Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. (17) For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, (18) while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. 21. Lukewarm? Open the door of your heart! Revelation 3:15-20 NKJV "I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. (16) So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. (17) Because you say, 'I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing' and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked (18) I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. (19) As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. (20) Behold, I stand at the door and knock.
