THANK YOU to the families that returned their packets. Please send those packets in now so that we can complete the inputting of all information in preparation for classes next year. We also want to know how many spots we have available in every class we are screening new families every day! I appreciate you getting your packet in this week. The following donations are needed: Small plastic dish soap or laundry soap containers and lids Small single serving drink bottles of any shape (water bottles, juice bottles, Gatorade, Pom, etc ) Small plastic bits of all colors! Think tiny plastic toys, bottle caps, random plastic parts, pen caps, beads, plastic army men. Everything small, plastic and brightly colored. 2 liter plastic soda bottles There will be a box in the hallway outside the art room for your donations. Thank you for your help! Please do that now so that the school has the information needed to determine tuition assistance. 2 CYO SPORTS NEWS Attention runners and field events fans: Track & Field registration is OPEN! Practices will be Monday/Wednesday 5:30-6:30pm, at La Salle HS. Track & Field is for grades 3-8 and our team welcomes friends from nearby public schools, St. Agatha, home school, etc. There are four developmental meets: April 6, 22, 29, May 6, followed by championships. Get on board the track train at Holy Family link. Basketball has SEVEN home games this coming Saturday: 3 rd grade Girls at 8:30am, defending City Champions 5 th grade Boys at 9:45am,5 th grade Girls at 11am, 8 th grade Boys at 12:15pm, 7 th grade Girls at 1:30pm,7 th grade Boys at 2:45pm, and 3 rd grade Boys at 4:00pm. 4 Explaining our THE INTRODUCTORY RITES include: Gathering, Entrance Procession & Song, Sign of Cross & Greeting, Penitential Rite, Gloria and the Opening Prayer. This beginning of the Mass is not a random collection of prayers, but an ordered way to help all of us who gather for Mass focus ourselves in prayer. Today we will focus on Gathering and Entrance Procession & Song. GATHERING: When you enter the church, near the doors you will find a holy water font. The water is blessed and it is the first thing you do when you come into the church. Dip the forefingers of your right hand into the blessed water and make the Sign of the Cross. As you make the Sign of the Cross you should say, In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. As you walk down the aisle, be mindful of the Presence of God. Be quiet while finding a seat trying not to distract others. When you choose a row to sit at, genuflect toward the front of the church to where the tabernacle is. When you genuflect you lower yourself onto your right knee until it touches the floor. At the same time we make the Sign of the Cross. If there are kneelers where you are sitting you make the Sign of the Cross and kneel. If there are no kneelers you sit in a prayerful posture with your hands resting on your lap. Prepare yourself and clear your mind for God. Sometimes it is helpful to pray a few memorized prayers, but these should always be followed by a real conversation with God. Tell Him what is on your mind and reflect on where God is in your life as you kneel or sit in the church. PARISH INFORMATION In the coming weeks, our goal is that these thoughts give you a deeper look at what we do as we gather at Mass so that each of us can enter more fully into the Mass each week. These thoughts are a walk through our Catholic Mass the Source and Summit of our Catholic Faith! THE ENTRANCE PROCESSION & SONG The entrance procession serves a very practical purpose: Once the people have gathered, the priest and ministers, clad in the sacred vestments, go in procession to the altar this statement presumes something very important: that we are already gathered in the church, not running in at the last minute! This orderly procession of the altar servers, deacon and priest is accompanied by singing. This entrance song is more than a little traveling music: The entrance song unites the people in a community of worship and introduces the people to the celebration of the day. This singing belongs to all of us who have gathered, not just the choir! When the priest, deacon, and servers reach the sanctuary steps, they reverence the altar with a profound bow. A profound bow is when you bend forward at the waist completely. While we genuflect before and after Mass out of reverence for Jesus present in the Tabernacle, all reverences during the Mass are made to the altar where the Mass takes place. The altar represents Christ, the stone that the builders rejected that becomes the Cornerstone. (Psalm 118) The priests and deacons present then venerate the altar with a kiss. To kiss an object is a sign of respect and greeting, and dates to the 4th century. On solemn occasions, the altar is incensed, a symbol of our prayers rising up to God. 5 LENT BEGINS ON MARCH 1st ASH WEDNESDAY Bring Your Palms from Last Year to Church If you still have palms from last year s Palm Sunday please bring them to church or the Parish Office. We will have a collection basket at both locations. The 7th graders will be burning the palms to make the ashes for Ash Wednesday. MASS SCHEDULE 9:15 AM Mass to include the Student Body. 7:00 PM Evening Mass Singers and musicians wanted! Lent is almost here! Please consider lending your talent to music ministry at Holy Family. There are choirs at every weekend mass, and members from all choirs combine to help with the Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Vigil liturgies. It s fine if you only want to commit to the Lent and Easter season, or if you can t make it every weekend.
