2 B rethren, grace was given to each of us according to the measure of Christ s gift. Therefore it is said, When He ascended on high He led a host of captives, and He gave gifts to men. (In saying, He ascended, what does I it mean but that He had also descended into the lower parts of the earth? He who descended is He who also ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.) THIS WEEK MEN S CLUB The Men s Club would like to thank all those who helped (and especially the new honorary members) in making the New Year s Eve Party a great success! We had a wonderful turnout, the food was delicious, and the music and dancing was enjoyed by all! Men s Club meeting this Sunday, January 12, after the Divine Liturgy! ROOMS FLOODED Last Friday, we had a sprinkler head break which resulted in flooding in Fr. Tom s office, reception area, copy area and the conference room. Please be patient with us as we restore these rooms. Please stay out of these affected areas while the repairs are being made. Also, watch your children as there are many things that had to be moved into the halls that they could be hurt on. NEIGHBORS FOOD DRIVE We now serve more people than ever before. Demand is at an all-time high. We are reaching out to our partners to help us keep up with the increased demand on Neighbors Food Shelf. With your help we can stock the shelves with non-perishables, including: peanut-butter, pancake mix, syrup, soup, canned meat, pasta, beans, rice, jams, jellies, canned fruit and juice, personal care items and paper products such as toilet paper and tooth paste. 4 PASTA AND PASTA SAUCE COLLECTION FOR FOCUS MN In addition to our Food Drive for Neighbors, in which we help out persons in the West St. Paul community, we are again this year helping stock the shelves at FOCUS MN. Please donate pasta or sauce (any type of tomato base will do; sauce, paste, or actual pasta sauce are all welcome). Please place these items on the left side table outside the church hall and if possible label the bag FOCUS. ORTHODOX GAME LEAGUE This league is for adults (age 18yr+) to enjoy time with each other and play games. We will meet 4 times a year at different churches. PARISH COUNCIL The Parish Council will meet Tuesday, January 14, at 6:30 P.M. MEOCCA CATECHISM Introduction to Orthodox Christianity- Cooperative Catechism classes are being offered again on Monday evenings, 7-9pm, at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in St. Paul, beginning January 13th and running for twelve weeks. 5 CHURCH CALENDARS We are grateful for the donation of church calendars again this year by Debbie Korluka and Icon Art Studios, Inc. Please pick up a calendar if you have not done so. There are still a few calendars left. Project Roots is an endeavor of the Christian Lebanese Foundation in the World (CLFW), the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America, and all the other Lebanese churches in the US. Register in Lebanon with us and spread the word about the need for registration. Your registration will NOT jeopardize your American citizenship. It will help Lebanon maintain the demographic and political power-sharing balance and prevent the Christians there from becoming only 10% of the population. Tuition cost is $ plus materials. Session 1 will concentrate on the prototype of "The Holy Face". All sessions concentrate on technique, along with a spiritual and theological study on the prototype sessions 2 and 3 will introduce new painting techniques and will concentrate on the meaning of gold in icons. Students will learn various methods of gold decorative application using composite gold powder. Session 2- St. Mary's Greek Orthodox Church, Thursdays from 6:00 to 9:00 on February 20, 27, March 13, 20 and April 3 and 10. Tuition cost is $ plus materials. Session 2 will study and write an icon of Christ in Majesty. Session 3- at The Basilica of Saint Mary, Hennepin at Sixteenth Street, Mpls., from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturdays during Great Lent; March 8 and 15 and April 5 and 12. Tuition including materials $ Session 3 will contemplate the sacrament of Baptism and will study and write and icon of St. John the Baptist.
