THE GLORIA PATRI O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder consider all the worlds Thy hands have made; I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, Thy pow r thro out the universe displayed. Son of God and Son of Man! Glory and honor, praise, adoration, now and forevermore be mine. arr. Brown 3
5 FTHE CONFESSION OF SIN ather, You tell us in Your Word that whatever does not proceed from faith is sin. We confess that we have frequently relaxed our faith. We have allowed ourselves to become cynical, and our cynicism has boiled over with slander, criticism, prayerlessness, and pessimism. How easily we ve allowed ourselves to crumple under the stresses of our lives. Forgive us for our smallness of faith. In Your mercy, hear us, for Jesus sake. Amen. The Worship Sourcebook THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures throughout all generations. The Lord is faithful in all his words and kind in all his works. The Lord upholds all who are falling and raises up all who are bowed down. Psalm 145:1314 THE HYMN OF ADORATION John Newton, How 2. 6 THE STATEMENT OF FAITH Heidelberg Catechism, Q. 1 The Minister: What is your only comfort, in life and in death? The Congregation: That I belong, body and soul, in life and in death, not to myself but to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ, who at the cost of His own blood has fully paid for all my sins and has completely freed me from the dominion of the devil; that He protects me so well that without the will of my Father in heaven not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, that everything must fit His purpose for my salvation. Therefore, by His Holy Spirit, He also assures me of eternal life, and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for Him. THE DOXOLOGY Nun Danket All praise and thanks to God the Father now be given, the Son, and Him who reigns with them in highest heaven the one eternal God, whom earth and heav n adore; for thus it was, is now, and shall be evermore. Amen. THE OFFERTORY Jesus, Lover of My Soul Christi Fleming, Flute James A. Brown, Jr., Director Jesus, lover of my soul, Let me to Thy bosom fly, While the nearer waters roll, While the tempest still is high. Hide me, O my Savior hide, Till the storm of life is past; Safe into the haven guide, O receive my soul at last. Other refuge have I none; Hangs my helpless soul on Thee; Leave, O leave me not alone, Still support and comfort me. All my trust on Thee is stayed, All my help from Thee I bring; Cover my defenseless head With the shadow of Thy wing. Thou, O Christ, art all I want; More than all in Thee I find. Raise the fallen, cheer the faint, Heal the sick, and lead the blind. Just and holy is Thy name, I am all unrighteousness; False and full of sin I am, Thou art full of truth and grace. Plenteous grace with Thee is found, Grace to cover all my sin; Let the healing streams abound, Make and keep me pure within. Thou of life the fountain art, Freely let me take of Thee; Spring Thou up within my heart, Rise to all eternity. 5 Emma Lou Diemer
7 THE SERMON Luke 1:3955 Mary Sings The Reverend Richie Sessions Senior Pastor 39 In those days Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a town in Judah, 40 and she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. 41 And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, 42 and she exclaimed with a loud cry, Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! 43 And why is this granted to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44 For behold, when the sound of your greeting came to my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. 45 And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord. 46 And Mary said, My soul magnifies the Lord, 47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, 48 for He has looked on the humble estate of His servant. For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed; 49 for He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name. 50 And His mercy is for those who fear Him from generation to generation. 51 He has shown strength with His arm; He has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts; 52 He has brought down the mighty from their thrones and exalted those of humble estate; 53 He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich He has sent away empty. 54 He has helped His servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy, 55 as He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his offspring forever. 6

12 Dear IPC Congregation, Over the last few months you have been asked to consider making a financial commitment to the Gather to Grow in Christ Renovation Campaign. The goal of the campaign was to raise $2.5 million in order to pay for the renovations already underway. I am excited to announce that as of September 8, the Lord has blessed us with over $2.6 million in gifts and commitments! There are so many I would like to thank for their efforts in making this campaign a success: the Renovation Campaign Committee of Ed Norton, Mike Washburn, Glen Cofield, Dudley Schaefer, Harriet Goshorn, Karen Kruse, Preston Carpenter, Richard Vining, David Neubert, Calvin Purcell, Rebekah Payne and Michael Schaefer, who have all worked tirelessly on this campaign; Richard Meena and the Building Committee, who continue to bring expertise and wisdom to every detail of the renovation; and the membership of IPC, who faithfully prayed for the campaign and who, through those prayers, felt led to cheerfully and sacrificially give to the work God is doing at our church. Ultimately though, all praise and thanks must go to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for the abundant blessings He has and always does provide. In His Name, Josh Davis Campaign Chairman RENOVATION CAMPAIGN FACTS AND FAQS AS OF SEPTEMBER 8, 2014 Total Given/Committed $2,610,827 Total Families/Individuals Participating 294 Total Money Spent on the Campaign $5,738 Q. I meant to give to the campaign but haven t done so. Is there still time? A. Yes. New campaign commitments and gifts are still coming in. Q. How do I give or make a commitment to give? A. For a commitment, please use the special campaign envelopes that are available in the Rotunda. To make a gift, please write Renovation Campaign on your check or if you prefer to give online, use the campaign link found at We respectfully request that all gifts be over and above your current giving to IPC. Q. If the goal has been met, why should I give? A. Additional capital improvements have been recommended to and approved by the Building Committee. These projects could be done more efficiently and cost effectively if added to Phase Two of the renovation, which is scheduled to start in January of 2015.
