2 Station One:- Jesus is condemned to death. We adore you O Christ, and we bless you. Because by your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world. READING Mark 15 vv. 1, As soon as it was morning, the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council. They bound Jesus, led him away, and handed him over to Pilate. Pilate spoke to them, Then what do you wish me to do with the man you call the King of the Jews? They shouted back, Crucify him! Pilate asked them, Why, what evil has he done? But they shouted all the more, Crucify him! So Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, released Barabbas for them; and after flogging Jesus, he handed him over to be crucified. Short homily.

4 Station Two:- Jesus receives his Cross We adore you O Christ, and we bless you. Because by your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world. READING John 19 vv Then he handed him over to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus; and carrying the cross by himself, he went out to what is called The Place of the Skull, which in Hebrew is called Golgotha. Short homily. Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning is now and shall be for ever. Amen.

6 Station Three:- Jesus falls the First time We adore you O Christ, and we bless you. Because by your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world. READING Isaiah 53 vv. 4 7 Surely he has borne our infirmities and carried our diseases; yet we accounted him stricken, struck down by God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the punishment that made us whole, and by his bruises we are healed. we like sheep have gone astray; we have all turned to our own way, and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.

7 Short homily. O God, I love you with my whole heart and above all things, and am heartily sorry that I have offended you. May I never offend you anymore, and make it my delight to do in all things your most holy will. 8 Station Four:- Jesus meets his Mother We adore you O Christ, and we bless you. Because by your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world. READING John 19 vv Standing near the cross of Jesus were his mother, and his mother s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing beside her, he said to his mother, Woman, here is your son. Then he said to the disciple, Here is your mother. And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home. Short homily.

9 Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen. READING Mark 15 v. 21 They compelled a passer-by, who was coming in from the country, to carry his cross; it was Simon of Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus. Short homily.

16 Station Eight:- Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem. We adore you O Christ, and we bless you. Because by your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world. READING Luke 23 vv A great number of the people followed him, and among them were women who were beating their breasts and wailing for him. But Jesus turned to them and said, Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. For the days are surely coming when they will say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed. Short homily. 18 Station Nine:- Jesus falls for the third time. We adore you O Christ, and we bless you. Because by your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world. READING Luke 22 vv Jesus said to his disciples, You are those who have stood by me in my trials; and I confer on you, just as my Father has conferred on me, a kingdom, so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel. Simon, Simon, listen! Satan has demanded to sift all of you like wheat, but I have prayed for you that your own faith may not fail; and you, when once you have turned back, strengthen your brothers. 20 Station Ten:- Jesus is stripped of his clothing. We adore you O Christ, and we bless you. Because by your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world. READING John 19 vv When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his clothes and divided them into four parts, one for each soldier. They also took his tunic; now the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece from the top. So they said to one another, Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it to see who will get it. This was to fulfil what the scripture says, They divided my clothes among themselves, and for my clothing they cast lots. And that is what the soldiers did. Short homily.

21 Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning is now and shall be for ever. Amen. HYMN He died that we might be forgiven, He died to make us good, That we might go at last to heaven, Saved by his precious blood. 22 Station Eleven:- Jesus is nailed to the cross. We adore you O Christ, and we bless you. Because by your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world. READING Luke 23 vv When they came to the place that is called The Skull, they crucified Jesus there with the criminals, one on his right and one on his left. Then Jesus said, Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing. And they cast lots to divide his clothing. And the people stood by, watching; but the leaders scoffed at him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself if he is the Messiah of God, his chosen one! The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him sour wine, and saying, If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself! There was also an inscription over him, This is the King of the Jews.

23 One of the criminals who were hanged there kept deriding him and saying, Are you not the Messiah? Save yourself and us! But the other rebuked him, saying, Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? And we indeed have been condemned justly, for we are getting what we deserve for our deeds, but this man has done nothing wrong. Short homily. 24 Station Twelve:- Jesus dies on the cross. We adore you O Christ, and we bless you. Because by your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world. READING John 19 vv After this, when Jesus knew that all was now finished, he said (in order to fulfil the scripture), I am thirsty. A jar full of sour wine was standing there. So they put a sponge full of the wine on a branch of hyssop and held it to his mouth. When Jesus had received the wine, he said, It is finished. Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. Since it was the day of Preparation, the Jews did not want the bodies left on the cross during the sabbath, especially because that sabbath was a day of great solemnity. So they asked Pilate to have the legs of the crucified men broken and the bodies removed. Then the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first and of the other who had been crucified with him. But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. Instead, one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once blood and water came out.

26 Station Thirteen:- Jesus is taken down from the cross. We adore you O Christ, and we bless you. Because by your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world. READING John 19 vv After these things, Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus, though a secret one because of his fear of the Jews, asked Pilate to let him take away the body of Jesus. Pilate gave him permission; so he came and removed his body. Nicodemus, who had at first come to Jesus by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, weighing about a hundred pounds. They took the body of Jesus and wrapped it with the spices in linen cloths, according to the burial custom of the Jews. Short homily.

28 Station Fourteen:- Jesus is laid in the tomb. We adore you O Christ, and we bless you. Because by your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world. READING Mark 15 vv Then Joseph bought a linen cloth, and taking down the body, wrapped it in the linen cloth, and laid it in a tomb that had been hewn out of the rock. He then rolled a stone against the door of the tomb. Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses saw where the body was laid. Short homily. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. 31 READING John 20 vv Hear the Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Saint John. Glory to you, O Lord. Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb. So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him. Then Peter and the other disciple set out and went towards the tomb. The two were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. He bent down to look in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he did not go in. Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen wrappings lying there, and the cloth that had been on Jesus head, not lying with the linen wrappings but rolled up in a place by itself. Then the other disciple, who reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed; for as yet they did not understand the scripture, that he must rise from the dead. Then the disciples returned to their homes. This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ. Lord Jesus, by your dying you have destroyed death. By your rising you have restored us to eternal life.
