1 Year B: 10 th 17 th Sundays of Ordinary Time / Te Wā Noa Catholic Diocese of Auckland Liturgy Centre Music Suggestions for June 10 th July 29 th 2018 Priority for Singing: The most important parts of the Mass to sing are; Gospel Acclamation, Holy Holy, Memorial Acclamation and Amen. Next most important are; Entrance or Gathering Song, Gloria, Psalm and Song during the procession to Communion. From The GIRM (General Instruction of the Roman Missal) Paragraph 47. When the people are gathered and as the Priest enters with the Deacon and ministers, the entrance chant begins. Its purpose is to open the celebration, foster the unity of those who have been gathered, introduce their thoughts to the mystery of the liturgical time or festivity, and accompany the procession of the Priest and ministers. The Psalmist: The psalmist, or cantor of the psalm, proclaims the Psalm after the first reading and leads the gathered assembly in singing the refrain. The psalmist may also, when necessary, intone the Gospel Acclamation and verse. Sing to The Lord; Music in Divine Worship: para 34 The Principle of Gender Inclusive Language: It is appropriate to ensure the words used in sung music are gender inclusive. Kaupapa Māori Māori Dimension: Included in the terms of reference for the National Liturgy Office is ensure the distinctive identity of the Catholic Church in Aotearoa New Zealand with its Māori dimension is present in the liturgy. (NZCBC s Terms of Reference for NLO b.) Kaupapa Māori has been written to support this initiative. The 4 th dimension of Kaupapa Māori, is Māori music, and the first priority it lists is to promote the use of Māori music where appropriate. This suggested list of hymns includes Ko Hehu Tōku Hēpara (Psalm 23 The Lord s My Shepherd, Sing Praise 57) for possible inclusion in your parish music over the next month. National Liturgy Office: Suggested Mass Settings: In principle, select one mass setting and use it consistently for the parts of the Mass throughout a Liturgical Season. As the season of Ordinary time is very long, you might find it appropriate to use a different mass setting at times, though still important to use the mass setting in its entirety (i.e. the Gloria, Holy Holy, Memorial Acclamation etc. should be from the same musical setting). Trilingual Chants of the Roman Missal - ICEL Mass of St Therese Douglas Mews Jr. Te Miha Māori Fr. Richard Puanaki Hopetoun Mass Fr. Chris Skinner Mary Queen of Peace Maria Guzzo Mass of Creation - Marty Haugen Heritage Mass Owen Alstott Joy and Peace - Tony Alonso Mass of Light - David Haas Mass of St Francis - Paul Taylor
