2 SALTof the Earth Ordination in Rome u Deacon John LoCoco is ordained to the transitional diaconate by Bishop James Checchio at St. Peter s Basilica in Rome on September 28, Photo courtesy of PNAC Photo Service. Fr. John addresses the Annual Dinner multitude. A Note of Thanks Dear Friends, In this issue of SALT, you will see photos from our Annual Dinner. The event was a huge success with over 1,100 people attending! It was edifying to gather with so many people who support the mission of Saint Francis de Sales Seminary. The theme for the evening was Cause of Our Joy, a title given to the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Litany of Loreto because Jesus Christ, our salvation, entered the world through her. Throughout the evening, we felt the joyful presence of the Lord, who continues to call men to the priesthood. The interactions between seminarians and guests were moments of grace as people came to know the men who hope to one day serve them as priests. Thank you to everyone who made it a special night. We know that many of our supporters are not able to attend the dinner, yet we appreciate each of you who supports us in whatever way you can. As rector, I am often overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of our benefactors. Please be assured of my prayers and the prayers of the whole seminary community for you. Mary, cause of our joy, pray for us. Father John Hemsing, Rector 2 Tis the Season As we enter the season of giving, please make supporting Saint Francis de Sales Seminary a priority. It is easy to celebrate Giving Tuesday (November 28) by making a contribution online at If you are doing Christmas shopping online, please make the Seminary your charity of choice in the Amazon Smile program. You pay the exact same low price, yet Amazon will donate a portion of your purchase price to us. We also appreciate good old-fashioned checks mailed to: Saint Francis de Sales Seminary 3257 South Lake Drive St. Francis, WI Your contribution helps to ensure that we will have holy priests for the future. Your gift makes a difference!

4 SALTof the Earth A Joyful Evening September 22, 2017 was a night to remember as 1,100 supporters of Saint Francis de Sales Seminary gathered at the Wisconsin Center to celebrate the Cause of Our Joy. In keeping with the Marian theme, the Seminary s statue of Mary was placed on stage, and the program began with the Seminary s schola singing the Magnificat. Other highlights included the premiere of our inspiring new short film, Come to Me, and a moving speech by seminarian Patrick Magnor. There are many more pictures online. You can also watch Come to Me, the schola s Magnificat and Patrick s speech on our website at Bishop James Powers of the Diocese of Superior leads the seminarians in prayer before guests arrive. Save the date for next year s Annual Seminary Dinner Friday, September 28, Seminarians greet Erin Berghouse as she arrives. Seminary supporters are special people! Bishop James Schuerman greets guests during the cocktail reception. 4 t Co-chair Fr. Matthew Widder opens the program with a heartfelt tribute to our Blessed Mother. Julie and Jim Lenahan catch up with Bishop Jeffrey Haines.
5 FALL 2017 Patrick Magnor (Milwaukee) shares his vocation story and thanks the gathering for their support of him and his brother seminarians. The schola sings the Magnificat after Fr. John read the opening of the Gospel account of the Visitation. Come to Me, a new film about our seminarians joy, premieres at the dinner. See it again at Archbishop Jerome Listecki visits with a table of attendees. Co-chair Mary Magnor proudly introduces the seminarian speaker, her son Patrick. A favorite tradition, the dinner comes to a close with the singing of Salve Regina. 5
