For info, please contact: Lorraine.711@hotmail.com. Each Branch is Needed by the Vine... God is calling you and I to be saints.in the end, you and I, as individual branches on this vine - all different, all beautiful, all necessary - would have nothing, could accomplish nothing, would do nothing without Jesus. Christ is the vine, and every single one of us, including myself, is a branch...each branch is different. They don t compete amongst each other. Bishop Frank J. Caggiano
3 April 29, Fifth Sunday of Easter A nyone ever gone horseback riding? You know, as a Pastor, I have lots of meetings. And I needed a break. So I took a day off and went horseback riding. I drove 3.5 hours away to a 52- acre horse farm. The sun was shining, beautiful rolling hills...and I m all excited. But then I see the horse...and I get a little nervous because this guy is a pretty good size. So I ask, What s his name? Rugby, I m told. And then the woman at the farm says, Rugby, this is a priest - be nice to him! Msgr., can you get up on Rugby on your own? Don t know...but I manage to get on! Tell me about Rugby, I say. Well he s an old guy, 18 years. Perfect, I say! I m an old guy, too. What kind of life has he had? We rescue horses in trouble, but Rugby was a show horse who entertained. And he s a jumper so hold on Msgr., cause once in a while he ll jump. How high, I ask? 3-4 feet high. Aye...yai...yai! And then I m told that Rugby is a follower. He s never put as the lead horse in front because he gets nervous. Jukebox is the leader. Whatever he does, the rest of the horses will do. I think to myself, isn t that strange that the Pastor is on a horse who s a follower. The trainer then instructs me on how to use the reins...what signals to use to speed up or slow down on the obstacle course. And don t be afraid to pat his nose to tell him how good he s doing, So I say, Rugby, you re alright man whoa...hold on there, I m a little nervous. Through it all, Rugby brought me safely to my destination. It was a great day...and at the end of the course, he looked at me with those big eyes and I gave him a treat. He took good care of me. I thought about how wonderful his trainer was she dedicated her life to caring for and training these horses...and instructing riders how to hold on and steer the horses on the path... Then I thought of the Good Shepherd. The One who takes care of His sheep. And how the sheep recognize the Shepherd s voice. How do you recognize His voice? When we look up at the 13 Crucifix on our altar, we re reminded that the Good Shepherd loved us so much he gave His life. He is the one who takes the lead in our lives. He takes the lead like Jukebox. None of us are on our own. I am not on my own. And you are not on your own. It is Jesus who is always there to lead us on the path. It is Jesus who makes us strong when we re afraid. It is Jesus who gives us courage when we re uncertain and scared. It is Jesus who is our guide and our inspiration. And it is you and I who are the followers of this Good Shepherd. He loves us just as we are and wants the best for us. And so He takes the lead and we listen for His voice. For his instruction. How do we listen? Through prayer...and by receiving His Body and Blood, the source and summit of our Christian lives the Spiritual Food for our journey in this life. We listen for His voice so that you and I will know what is good and right. And then we practice what He has taught us: to love Him with our mind, heart and soul, and to love our neighbor as ourselves. Amen. In His Love, Msgr. Walter PENTECOST, THE BIRTHDAY OF THE CHURCH! This event is centered on the Eucharist and focused on prayer. You can leave intentions on our Procession Prayer Line. We ll pray for you before and during the Procession: , ext. 165, or Procession2018@gmail.com For further information, contact Beth Ann Murray at: BafMazz@gmail.com or Rosary Sign-up Sheets at Church Doors May is Our Lady s Month Pray the Rosary at home Pray for ourselves, each other & for peace The Power of Our Lady helps us to know Jesus as He is. Blood Pressure Screening, May Every Second Weekend of each month After all Masses, except Sunday s 5pm In the Conference Room across from the Parish Office Hosted by The Parish Nurses If you are in High School, College, have graduated, or are currently in another profession and think you may have a calling to be a priest, please see Msgr. Walter, Fr. Sunil or Fr. Tomi after Mass... Pray for men and young men to heed the call of God. The priest is not an angel sent from heaven. He is a man chosen from among men, a member of the Church, a Christian. Remaining man and Christian, he begins to speak to you the Word of God. This Word is not his own. No, he comes to you because God has told him to proclaim God s word. Perhaps he has not entirely understood it himself. Perhaps he adulterates it. But he believes, and despite his fears he knows that he must communicate God s Word to you. For must not some one of us say something about God, about eternal life, about the majesty of grace in our sanctified being; must not some one of us speak of sin, the judgment and mercy of God? So my dear friends, pray for him. Carry him so that he might be able to sustain others by bringing to them the mystery of God s love revealed in Christ Jesus. Karl Rahner Congratulations, Colin! Bishop Frank J. Caggiano conferred the Rite of Candidacy on Seminarian Colin Lomnitzer from Trumbull, April 22, 2018 at St. Pius X Parish in Fairfield. This means that Colin has been officially accepted by the Church as a candidate for Ordination to the Diaconate and to the Priesthood in our Diocese. Please keep Colin in your prayers as he continues his journey to the priesthood.
